# June 9 *Lectures from this day: 8 recordings* --- **[[spoken/690609me.nv|Meeting with Devotees — June 9, 1969, New Vrindaban]]** --- **[[spoken/740609mw.par|Morning Walk — June 9, 1974, Paris]]** **Prabhupāda:** Yes. Therefore they do not take it. Just like homeopathic medicine. You know homeopathic medicine? **Prabhupāda:** Yes, simply water. So they do not like to take it. Actually, they do not want God; they want *māyā.* Otherwise, if anyone wants God, Kṛṣṇa, there is no difficulty. Kṛṣṇa says, *man-manā bhava mad-bhakto mad-yājī māṁ namaskuru* [[bg/18/65|[Bg. 18.65] ]], mām evaiśyasi asaṁśayaḥ* [[bg/18/68|[Bg. 18.68] ]]. Four things. "Just always think of Me," *man-manā. Mad-bhaktaḥ:* "Just become My devotee." *Mad-yājī:* "You worship Me and offer your obeisances unto Me. If you do simply these four things, then you are coming back to Me without any doubt." These four things. But they cannot do it or will not do it. Otherwise, very simple. We are thinking of something always. Simply we have to replace Kṛṣṇa. No. They'll think so many other things except Kṛṣṇa. This is the difficulty. Otherwise, it is not at all difficult. *Man-manā bhava mad-bhakto mad-yājī māṁ namaskuru.* This is Kṛṣṇa consciousness. They'll make a program: "Thoughtlessness." That lady was... **Prabhupāda:** Yes. Because they are disgusted with this material thought, therefore they want to make it zero. But that is not possible. You must think of something. So they have no spiritual idea. They do not know what is spiritual thinking. They think that "Make it zero. These thoughts, let us make it zero." Just like a diseased man, suffering for..., from the very beginning of his life. Then, if somebody suggests that "When you'll be cured, you'll very nicely eat, nicely walk and nicely think," so he's coming to the stage of diseased condition, "Again thinking? Again eating? Again lying down on bed? Then what is the difference? No, no. It must be zero: no eating, no sleeping, no bedding, nothing." He's thinking like that. Because he has got bad experience of his diseased condition, he thinks, "Again if there is eating, again if there is walking, then how it can be cured?" He cannot think of. These rascals, because they have no idea what is spiritual thinking, they want to make this thinking zero only. That's all. *Śūnyavādī.* They are called *śūnyavādī, nirvāṇa,* Buddhist philosophy. "Your body is subjected to pains and pleasure, to dismantle this body." This is Buddha philosophy. "Make it zero. There will be no more pains and pleasure." "You have got some trouble in the eyes? Pluck it out." He does not know how to cure it. He simply knows, "Pluck it out." This is their philosophy. *Asatyere satya kari māni,* Narottama dāsa Ṭhākura's song. --- **[[spoken/740609sb.par|SB 2.1.1 — June 9, 1974, Paris]]** **Nitāi:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya. To hear the answer to this question is the prime subject matter of hearing, and it is approved by all transcendentalists." --- **[[spoken/760609gc.la|Garden Conversation — June 9, 1976, Los Angeles]]** **Nalinīkānta:** > śrī-prahrāda uvāca > kaumāra ācaret prajño > dharmān bhāgavatān iha > durlabhaṁ mānuṣaṁ janma > tad apy adhruvam arthadam > [[sb/7/6/1|[SB. 7.6.1] ]] "Prahlāda Mahārāja said: One who is sufficiently intelligent should use the human form of body from the very beginning of life—in other words, from the tender age of childhood—to practice the activities of devotional service, giving up all other engagements. The human body is most rarely achieved, and although temporary like other bodies, it is meaningful because in human life one can perform devotional service. Even a slight amount of sincere devotional service can give one complete perfection." **Nalinīkānta:** "The whole purpose of Vedic civilization and of reading the *Vedas* is to attain the perfect stage of devotional service in the human form of life. According to the Vedic system, therefore, from the very beginning of life the *brahmacārya* system is introduced so that from one's very childhood—from the age of five years—one can practice modifying one's human activities so as to engage perfectly in devotional service. As confirmed in *Bhagavad-gītā,* Chapter Two, verse 40, *svalpam apy asya dharmasya trāyate mahato bhayāt:* 'Even a little advancement on this path can protect one from the most dangerous type of fear.' Modern civilization, not referring to the verdicts of Vedic literature, is so cruel to the members of human society that instead of teaching children to become *brahmacārīs,* it teaches mothers to kill their children even in the womb, on the plea of curbing the increase of population. And if by chance a child is saved, he is educated only for sense gratification. Gradually, throughout the entire world, human society is losing interest in the perfection of life. Indeed, men are living like cats and dogs, spoiling the duration of their human lives by actually preparing to transmigrate again to the degraded species among the 8,400,000 forms of life. The Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is anxious to serve human society by teaching people to perform devotional service, which can save a human being from being degraded again to animal life. As already stated by Prahlāda Mahārāja, *bhāgavata-dharma* consists of, --- **[[spoken/760609mw.la|Morning Walk — June 9, 1976, Los Angeles]]** **Rāmeśvara:** Śrīla Prabhupāda, sometime today the new copies of the second volume of Seventh Canto are coming from the printer today. That's the volume with the section about Lord Nṛsiṁhadeva killing Hiraṇyakaśipu and Prahlāda's prayers. **Prabhupāda:** [break] ...culture and civilization is being introduced by Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement for the benefit of the whole human society. The modern civilization is not civilization. *Mūḍhā nābhijānāti mām eva param avyayam* [[bg/7/25|[Bg. 7.25] ]]. Ninety-nine per cent or 99.9 percent people do not believe in the transmigration of the soul. Is it not? **Hṛdayānanda:** I think now there is... People are becoming more interested in this theory. They say "theory." I think there is more interest now. I'm talking to common people. They're... --- **[[spoken/760609r1.la|Room Conversation — June 9, 1976, Los Angeles]]** **Prabhupāda:** "...afraid of me, what kind of child? [laughs] Where you got so much strength?" And the answer here, "Prahlāda Mahārāja said, 'My dear King, the source of my strength, of which you are asking, is also the source of yours, by which you are challenging. Indeed, the original source of all kinds of strength is one. He is not only your strength or mine, but the only strength for everyone. Without Him, no one can get any strength, whether moving or not moving, superior or inferior. Everyone, including Lord Brahmā, is controlled by the strength of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.' " --- **[[spoken/760609r2.la|Room Conversation — June 9, 1976, Los Angeles]]** **Hari-śauri:** There's one article that he wrote for the BTG and a reply that [indistinct] made.Prabhupāda just read the article. **Kīrtanānanda:** All of the *mukuṭas* and the jewelry, everything is made there at New Vrindavan. We have very expert, ah, makers. [break] **Prabhupāda:** ...can have so many engagements. Simply by making dress, we remain Kṛṣṇa conscious. Simply by cooking, we remain Kṛṣṇa conscious. Simply by cleansing the floor, we remain Kṛṣṇa conscious. Easiest method. Everyone can remain Kṛṣṇa conscious in any circumstance. *Ahaituky apratihatā [[sb/1/2/6|[SB. 1.2.6] ]]. --- **[[spoken/760609sb.la|SB 6.1.43 — June 9, 1976, Los Angeles]]** **Pradyumna:Translation:** "The candidates for punishment are those who are confirmed by these many witnesses to have deviated from their prescribed regulative duties. Everyone engaged in fruitive activities is suitable to be subjected to punishment according to his sinful acts." **Prabhupāda:** > etair adharmo vijñātaḥ > sthānaṁ daṇḍasya yujyate > sarve karmānurodhena > daṇḍam arhanti kāriṇaḥ > [[sb/6/1/43|[SB. 6.1.43] ]] So you can say that "God is dead" or "There is no God," but that is not the fact. The atheist class of men, they want that there may not be any God; they can do whatever they like. That is not possible. Just like in a small state there are so many CID, police and so many other depart..., detectives, just to find out who is transgressing the law. So in this big government of the universe, how do you think that there is no system of finding out who is culprit? So what is *adharma*? *Etair adharmo vijñātaḥ. Adharma,* irreligiosity, or transgressing the law, that is *adharma. Dharma* and *adharma*... *Dharma* means obeying the laws. Just like good citizen means who is obeying the laws of the state. He is good citizen. And other person, who is disobeying, they are called outlaws. So what is *dharma*? Just like it is the duty of good citizen to abide by the laws of the state, similarly, *dharmī,* a person who is religious, means who is abiding by the laws of God. That's all. And who is not abiding, he is *adharmi.* That is the difference. --- ## Letters - [[../../letters/1967/670609_mr._and_mrs._renovich.md|Letter to Mr. And Mrs. Renovich, 1967]] - [[../../letters/1967/670609_mr._taber.md|Letter to Mr. Taber, 1967]] - [[../../letters/1967/670609_mukunda.md|Letter to Mukunda, 1967]] - [[../../letters/1967/670609_nandarani.md|Letter to Nandarani, 1967]] - [[../../letters/1970/700609_uddhava.md|Letter to Uddhava, 1970]] - [[../../letters/1974/740609_krsna_dasa.md|Letter to Krsna Dasa, 1974]] - [[../../letters/1974/740609_muralidhara.md|Letter to Muralidhara, 1974]] - [[../../letters/1974/740609_nandalal.md|Letter to Nandalal, 1974]] - [[../../letters/1974/740609_ravindra_svarupa.md|Letter to Ravindra Svarupa, 1974]] - [[../../letters/1974/740609_rsabhadeva.md|Letter to Rsabhadeva, 1974]] - [[../../letters/1974/740609_sahadeva.md|Letter to Sahadeva, 1974]] - [[../../letters/1974/740609_trivikrama.md|Letter to Trivikrama, 1974]] - [[../../letters/1974/740609_yasodanandana.md|Letter to Yasodanandana, 1974]] - [[../../letters/1975/750609_kirtanananda.md|Letter to Kirtanananda, 1975]] - [[../../letters/1975/750609_kurusrestha.md|Letter to Kurusrestha, 1975]] - [[../../letters/1975/750609_satsvarupa.md|Letter to Satsvarupa, 1975]] - [[../../letters/1976/760609_gopala_krsna.md|Letter to Gopala Krsna, 1976]] - [[../../letters/1976/760609_jennifer_lynne_davis.md|Letter to Jennifer Lynne Davis, 1976]] - [[../../letters/1976/760609_tarun_kanti_ghosh.md|Letter to Tarun Kanti Ghosh, 1976]]
