# June 5 ## Spoken on June 5 *Lectures from this day: 5 recordings* --- **[1974: Morning Walk](spoken/1974/740605mw.gen)** > Condition. Still conditioned, but *daivīṁ prakṛtim āśritāḥ,* under the spiritual nature. That is *mahātmā. Mahātmā* is not independent. He is also conditioned. So first of all, we must understand that our natural position is to be conditioned. Now, why, where I shall be conditioned? Therefore Kṛṣṇa says, *sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekam*. "You condition here. You become conditioned by Me. Then you will be happy." Those who are thinking that "We shall not be conditioned," they are still in *māyā.* You cannot be without condition. > "You are My devotee. You are My very dear." But what did he do? His business was to fight. He fought, that's all. But fought for Kṛṣṇa. That is the secret. He did not change his fighting capacity as a warrior, but he changed his mentality. His mentality was that "Why shall I kill my kinsmen?" But Kṛṣṇa wanted, "Oh, that's all right." So therefore service is for Kṛṣṇa, that's all, not for his sense gratification. *Karmī* means sense gratification, and *bhakta* means Kṛṣṇa's sense gratification. That is the difference. Sense gratification is there. When you do it for your personal sense grati..., it is *karma.* And you do it for Kṛṣṇa's sense gratification, that is *bhakti.* So therefore they look similar, but the quality is different. *Harer nāma* [*Cc Ādi* 7.76]. --- **[1974: Room Conversation](spoken/1974/740605r1.gen)** > No land belongs either to the Americans or to the Swiss people or to the Indian people or to German people. No. Everything belongs to God. And all living entities are the sons of God. So everything produced out of God's land, either on the land or in the sky or anywhere, it is God's property, and all the sons, they have the right to share. So there is no scarcity in the God's kingdom. Simply due to our mismanagement we have created so much trouble. If we accept God as the center, and all living entities sons of God, then we can actually live very peacefully in God consciousness. Therefore this is the recommendation, how we can live very peacefully, all of us, both men and animal and everyone. That is said here. *Annād bhavanti bhūtāni.* [aside:] Read it. >one of the item is that good quality that "Why shall I give trouble, pain, to other animals?" This is within the God consciousness. Just like poor-feeding. This program we also follow. In our temple, especially in India, any man can come and take his food. Yes. We have got arrangement. In the USA also, Los Angeles, New York, we invite anyone, "Come and take food." We don't want to see that anyone is hungry. We don't want to see. So God consciousness means all the good ideas we are manufacturing, they will be manifested in God consciousness automatically. Therefore our duty should be, if we want to make all human being well-behaved, then we must try to make every one of them God conscious. --- **[1974: Room Conversation with Robert Gouiran, Nuclear Physicist from European Center for Nuclear Research](spoken/1974/740605r2.gen)** > So we must know what is God. We must remember always God. We must become a devotee of God. In that way we can save ourself from the anxiety. Otherwise it is not possible. Because a God conscious man, he knows that "I'll die. Everyone will die; I'll also die." But his concern is, "At the time of death, I shall remember Kṛṣṇa." That's all. Then his life is successful. Death we cannot avoid. There must be. *Tyaktvā deham.* We have to give up this body. But the question is *how* I shall give up this body. The cats, dogs, they also give up their body, and I'll also have to give up my body. But shall I give up the body like cats and dogs, or as human being? That is the process. Therefore one should..., a human being should prepare himself how to give up this body. That is humanity. Kṛṣṇa says... [aside:] Find out this verse. *Janma karma me divyaṁ yo jānāti tattvataḥ, tyaktvā dehaṁ punar janma naiti mām eti*. > So the cause of physical elements is spiritual energy, and the spiritual energy is... Both spiritual... Spiritual energy is coming from God. Just like... [aside:] Close. [sound of windows closing]...the sunshine is coming from the sun, and in the sunshine there are so many physical transformations. Is it not? In the sunshine... Just like we, ordinary men, we can understand. When there is absence of sunshine... In your Western countries or in other..., the leaves of the tree falls down. And again, in the springtime, as soon as there is sufficient sunshine, immediately thousands of trees grows leaves. So there is action of sunshine. So sunshine is coming from the sun, and the sunshine is working in different ways, changing the color of the flowers, of the leaves, and... Or, so far I know, all the planets are..., they're rotating on the sunshine heat. Eh? So therefore the sunshine is the original cause of all material, physical things. But wherefrom the sunshine comes? That comes from the spiritual energy. *Yasya prabhā prabhavato jagad-aṇḍa-koṭi* [Bs. 5.40], in the *Brahma-saṁhitā.* So that original cause is the spiritual energy. Therefore, because everything is coming from the spiritual energy, you can take everything as spiritual. The same example, like cotton is the original cause. Then it comes thread, then comes... --- **[1976: Morning Walk](spoken/1976/760605mw.la)** > > nivṛtta-tarṣair upagīyamānād > > bhavauṣadhāc chrotra-mano-'bhirāmāt > > ka uttamaśloka-guṇānuvādāt > > virajyeta pumān vinā paśu-ghnāt > > [1976: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 6.1.39](spoken/1976/760605sb.la)** > Kṛṣṇa is offering that *samagram, sama,* "In fullness, completely, as you can understand Me, I am speaking to you." *Asaṁśayam*—without any doubt. Doubt there may be, because God is great, we are very small; how we can understand God? There is always some doubt, whether He's personal, impersonal, all-pervading. There are so many different conception of God. But therefore God Himself says *asaṁśayam,* "without any doubt." And *samagram,* "completely." *Asaṁśayam samagraṁ māṁ yathā jñāsyasi tac chṛṇu*. Just like to study a subject matter, it takes some time, takes little endeavor to associate with person who knows the thing rightly. In this way we can understand God also. Just like we understand so many science, so many arts, by patience. Then that is Rūpa Gosvāmī's advice: *niścayād dhairyāt. Dhairyāt* means patience. You have to learn patiently. *Niścayād dhairyāt tat-tat-karma-pravartanāt sato vṛtteḥ saṅga-tyāgāt ṣaḍbhir bhaktiḥ prasidhyati *[*Upadeśāmṛta* 3]. > You have to make the eyes to see God. Otherwise, God is everywhere. So they may ask that "If God is everywhere, why you are worshiping an idol?" He's not idol, He is God, but he is seeing idol. Unless he has developed love for God, he cannot see. But it is. God is there. But because our eyes cannot see the spirit, at the present moment, our dull material eyes... Just like you are spirit soul, I am spirit soul, your father is spirit soul, your mother is spirit soul—but are you seeing the spirit soul? When the spirit soul goes away, you're crying, "My father is gone, my father is gone." Why father is gone? He's lying on the bed. You have seen the coat, pants, hands, legs; that is there. Why you say gone? "No, he's gone." So we cannot see the spirit soul even of our father and mother; how can you see God, the Supreme Spirit? Therefore God comes before you just like stone, which you can see. It is to favor you. God is everything. So in this way we have to understand God, Kṛṣṇa. And if anyone understands, then he becomes immediately fit for going back to home, back to Godhead. *Tyaktvā dehaṁ punar janma naiti mām eti kaunteya. Janma karma ca me divyaṁ yo jānāti tattvataḥ*. --- ## Letters on June 5 *Letters from this day: 19* --- **[1968: Letter to Brahmananda](letters/1968/680605_brahmananda)** > To tell you frankly, I have no faith in the lawyers; they promise something but they do something else. --- **[1969: Letter to Candanacarya](letters/1969/690605_candanacarya)** > Regarding your proposal of working in Columbus with the chance of earning $100 per day, why don't you take it? --- **[1969: Letter to Gopala Krsna](letters/1969/690605_gopala_krsna)** > I have already sent your beads duly chanted upon, and I hope you will be happy in Krishna Consciousness always. --- **[1969: Letter to Sir](letters/1969/690605_sir)** > I have received one letter from Gopala Krsna dated May 29, 1969 in which he writes "I don't think my parents will have any objections now because I have assured them in telegrams and letter that I am not going to abandon them. --- **[1969: Letter to Turya](letters/1969/690605_turya)** > Now you have your beads, so please chant at least 16 rounds daily, and read from *Bhagavad-gita As It Is* at least one chapter daily.
