> > oṁ ajñāna-timirāndhasya
> jñānāñjana-śalākayā
> cakṣur unmīlitaṁ yena
> tasmai śrī-gurave namaḥ
So there is a problem in our life. The *Śrīmad-Bhāgavata* says,
> nūnaṁ pramattaḥ kurute vikarma
> yad indriya-prītaya āpṛṇoti
> na sādhu manye yata ātmano 'yam
> asann api kleśada āsa dehaḥ
> [[sb/5/5/4|[SB. 5.5.4] ]]
Ṛṣabhadeva says that people are mad after sense gratification.

> Subtle physical. Subtle physical. Devotee (1): But their extension of that....

**[1974: Room Conversation with Prof. Regamay, Professor of Sanskrit at the University of Lausanne](spoken/1974/740604r1.gen)**
> As you want Kṛṣṇa to do, He says, "Only just surrender unto Me." He wants that. But you want so many things. Therefore He gives facility, "All right, do it, at your risk." He doesn't want. He says, "Give up all this nonsense." *Sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇam*. "Just surrender unto Me." That He wants. But because we will not do that, we want to do something else, but I cannot do without His sanction, therefore He sanctions. That means Kṛṣṇa does everything. But I want to do, and simply I want His sanction. Therefore, out of His causeless mercy, He agrees, "All right, do it." But you'll have to get the result of it.
> "Then He described the *līlāvatāras.* He said that there is no count, no limit or count, for the *līlā,* or pastime, *avatāras,* but some of them may be described by the Lord, for example, Matsya, Kūrma, Raghunātha, Nṛsiṁha, Vāmana and Varāha. A description of the qualitative incarnations of Viṣṇu, or *guṇāvatāras,* is as follows: Brahmā is one of the living entities, but he is very powerful on account of his devotional service. Such a primal living entity, by the influence of the mode of material passion, is situated as Brahmā. He is made powerful by the Garbhodakaśāyī-Viṣṇu directly, and therefore Brahmā has the power to create innumerable living entities. A description of Brahmā is given in the *Brahma-saṁhitā,* Fifth Chapter, fiftieth verse. Brahmā is likened to the valuable stones influenced by the rays of the sun, and the sun is likened to the Supreme... [break]...lamp. Although both lamps are of equal candlepower, still, one is accepted as the original and the other is said to be kindled by the original lamp."

**[1974: Room Conversation with Biochemist Dr. Sallaz](spoken/1974/740604r2.gen)**
> One ten-thousandth part of the... The exact version is *keśāgra. Keśa* means hair, and *agra* means the top. *Keśāgra-śata-bhāgasya* [*Śvetāśvatara Upaniṣad* 5.9]. So that point, you divide into hundred, and take again one part of it, and again divide into hundred. That means you divide the top of the hair into ten thousand part, and then that one part is the magnitude of the soul, spiritual energy. That spiritual energy is within you, within me, within the ant or within the elephant. So we are living entities. And the body is inferior energy at the present moment. In the material world the body is covering. Just like you are covered by the coat.
> Now, this is describing the superior energy, or the *parām,* the *parāṁ prakṛti.* And this is described, "Besides this inferior nature," which is this earth, air, water, fire, ether, "O mighty-armed Arjuna, there is a superior energy of Mine which are all the living entities who are struggling with material nature and are sustaining the universe." So this earth, air, water, fire and ether... Just like your body, it is being sustained by the soul. And as soon as the soul leaves the body, then, of course, the earth, air, water, fire and ether, it is no longer sustained in this fashion. It merges into the various elements or energies as such. And in this way, we can understand that the material world is made up of two energies, as my spiritual master said: the inferior energy, or this *aparā-prakṛti,* earth, air, water, fire, ether, etc., and the superior energy, or the living force. So the point is that the life force does not come from a combination of earth, air, water, fire, ether. It is separate. That is a superior energy. And on this point we agree. Now, we have to find out what is the source of both the superior and inferior material energies, or what is God. So if there is a spiritual evolution.

**[1974: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.13.15](spoken/1974/740604sb.gen)**
> So the reason is... [reading:] "According to Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, anyone who is conversant in the transcendental knowledge or the science of Godhead, be he a *brāhmaṇa* or *śūdra,* a householder or a *sannyāsī,* is eligible to become a spiritual master." Not that because he was born a *śūdra,* he cannot preach, he cannot take the post of *ācārya* or spiritual master. That is not Caitanya philosophy. Caitanya philosophy has nothing to do with this body, external body. Caitanya philosophy is concerned with the soul. This movement is the movement of elevating the soul, saving the soul from degradation. Therefore people sometimes are surprised. The bodily concept of life, the same activities will be *karma.* And on the platform of spiritual life, the same *karma* will be *bhakti.* Same *karma* will be *bhakti.* So *bhakti* is not inactivity. *Bhakti* is all active. *Yat karoṣi yaj juhoṣi yad aśnāsi yat tapasyasi kuruṣva tad mad-arpaṇam*. This is *bhakti, bhakti-yoga.* Kṛṣṇa says to everyone, "If you cannot give up your *karma,* then that's all right. But the result of your *karma,* give to Me. Then it will be *bhakti.*"
> This is our position. Anything... If you are walking on the street, if you kill an ant by walking, you will be punished. This is nature's law. We are in such a dangerous position. In every movement there is punishment. Now, if you believe the *śāstras,* that is different thing. If you don't believe, then do anything you like. But from *śāstra* we can understand the laws of nature, or God, is very, very strict. Very, very strict. So Maṇḍūka Muni also chastised Yamarāja, that "In my childhood, without any knowledge I did something, and for which you have given me so great punishment. So you are not fit for becoming a *brāhmaṇa* or *kṣatriya.* You become *śūdra.*" So he was cursed to become *śūdra.* Therefore Yamarāja took his birth as Vidura and was born in the womb of a *śūdra* mother. This is the history of Vidura's birth.

> [in car:]...real business is to enhance your Kṛṣṇa consciousness. These people, they are wasting time simply to know something else. There is no limit. *Kliśyanti ye kevala-bodha-labdhaye*. What is moon planet? What business you have got to know the...? Whatever is stated in the *śāstra,* accept it, that's all. What is the use of experiment and going there and then again say, "Oh, it is all failure." Simply waste of time. The arrangement is there by God. That's all. Spending so much money, hard-earned money, unnecessarily and then say, "Oh, it is failure."
> > ekabhūr ubhayora
> > eka dalayoreka kāṇḍayoḥ
> > śāli-śyāmā kayor bhedaḥ
> > phalena paricīyate [Quoted in his Upākhyāne Upadeśa, by Śrīla Bhakti Siddhānta Saraswatī Ṭhākura "In the same field both the rice paddy and weeds grow together. Their leaves, and branches are exactly same, but one can judge which is which only by the fruits they produce."]

**[1976: Room Conversation with Reporter](spoken/1976/760604iv.la)**
> The beginning of *Bhagavad-gītā* is the battlefield, and the battlefield is called Kurukṣetra. So Kurukṣetra is still there in India, but these so-called learned scholars, politicians, they're squeezing out some meaning out of Kurukṣetra. What is the necessity? Kurukṣetra is a place where actually, historically the battle took place.* [Reporter changes cassette of tape recorder] [break]
> Anyone who is not talking about God, he is either of these group: sinful, rascal, lowest of the mankind, and knowledge taken away by illusion. This is our conclusion, and that's a fact. Because a person who does not know about God, what he is? He is animal. The animal has no knowledge about God. But a human being, if he poses himself to be very learned, then he must have knowledge about God; otherwise what is his knowledge?

**[1976: Morning Walk](spoken/1976/760604mw.la)**
> And He has got so many working hands. That is also... *Parāsya śaktir vividhaiva śrūyate* [Cc Madhya*13.65*, purport]. Multi-energies, they are doing like that. But He is supervising, "Have you done this?" "Yes." "That's all. Go on." So how can you go beyond your experience? Everything is created. A child may think, "How this car is created?" But it is, factually, it is created. He cannot imagine how this nice car is created. Why child? Even elderly persons in a nondeveloped country, they'll be surprised how this car is created. They cannot do it.
---
**[1976: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 6.1.38](spoken/1976/760604sb.la)**
> So here, in the *Bhagavad-gītā,* we also can understand what is *dharma.* This is the question and answers between Yamadūtas. But if you are serious student of *Bhagavad-gītā,* we can understand what is *dharma.* Kṛṣṇa says in the beginning of the *Bhagavad-gītā, yadā yadā hi dharmasya glānir bhavati bhārata, abhyutthānam adharmasya*. Just like this world is duality. If you are sick, that means you are not healthy. And if you are healthy, then you are not sick. Duality. There are two things: sickness and health. So if you are really religious, you are not religious..., nonreligious; not nonreligious. Two negatives make one positive. So two things are there: religiosity and nonreligiosity. So duality.
> Just to accept Kṛṣṇa as God... Arjuna, he knew that Kṛṣṇa is God. Therefore he requested Kṛṣṇa, "My dear Kṛṣṇa, can You show me Your form how You are universally working?" And He showed His universal form, how it is working. That is described in the Eleventh Chapter of the *Bhagavad-gītā.* Why? Arjuna knew from the very beginning that "Kṛṣṇa is the Supreme Lord; I am His servant." But either by Kṛṣṇa's *yoga-māyā* or Arjuna's humility, he played that "My family is more important than Your service." He played like that. At last, he agreed that *kariṣye vacanaṁ tava*.

As GBC your first responsibility is to keep yourself spiritually fit and see that all the devotees in your zone of management are chanting 16 rounds, rising early and strictly avoiding the sinful activities.
