# June 3 ## Spoken on June 3 *Lectures from this day: 7 recordings* --- **[1968: Bhagavad-gītā 7.3](spoken/1968/680603bg.mon)** > Now, just see Arjuna. He's Kṛṣṇa's personal friend. He's always with Kṛṣṇa. He's eternal associate. He's talking with Kṛṣṇa. Just imagine his position. Still, Kṛṣṇa says, *ahaṁ tvāṁ sarva-pāpebhyo:* "I shall get you relieved from all sinful reaction." This means that a person like Arjuna, who can talk face to face with Kṛṣṇa, is supposed to have sinful activities of life. Otherwise why Kṛṣṇa says, *ahaṁ tvāṁ sarva-pāpebhyo:* "I shall get you relieved from all sinful reaction"? That means even Kṛṣṇa..., even Arjuna was subjected to sinful activities. > Kṛṣṇa consciousness is a science which is not for all. It is for all—it is very easy and sublime—but at the same time, the spell and strength of *māyā* is so strong that she does not allow to accept this very easy, at the same time sublime, spiritual process. Therefore Kṛṣṇa says in the *Bhagavad-gītā* that out of many hundreds of thousands and millions of people, somebody is interested in spiritual realization. *Manuṣyāṇāṁ sahasreṣu.* Out of many hundreds of thousands people, one is interested. --- **[1974: Morning Walk [Partially Recorded](spoken/1974/740603mw.gen)** >living entities. As soon as there is opportunity, they are coming out. [break]...as we have got experience within this planet there is water. And the watermelon, they grow very nicely in the desert. And you see, within the watermelon, there is water. So wherefrom this water is coming? Hmm? Wherefrom the water is coming? > Piśācī,* ghostly-haunted person, as he speaks so many nonsense, similarly, these persons who are captivated by *māyā,* they also speak all nonsense. Ghostly-haunted persons. Hare Kṛṣṇa.* [*japa] What is that? You want to return? --- **[1974: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.13.12–14](spoken/1974/740603sb.gen)** > Therefore *śravaṇam* is very essential. *Śravaṇaṁ kīrtanaṁ viṣṇoḥ smaraṇaṁ pāda-sevanam*.* So in all our centers, this process should be followed. We have got now so many books. Simply if we read books... Our Yogeśvara Prabhu is very enthusiastic to read books. So everyone should read books, and others should hear. That is very essential, *śravaṇam.* The more you hear... We have got so many books. Whatever is already published... Just like we are describing one verse daily. So at least... There are so many verses already in stock, you can go on speaking for fifty years. These books already published, you can go on. There will be no want of stock. > So this practice should be adopted. Don't waste time. As much as possible, try to hear about this transcendental subject matter, *Bhāgavatam. Yad vaiṣṇavānāṁ priyam.* It is stated that "The *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam* is very, very dear to the Vaiṣṇavas, to the devotees." In Vṛndāvana, you will find, they are always reading *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.* That is their life and soul. So now we have got already six volumes, and further... How many? Eight volumes are coming? So you will have enough stock. So you should read. *Śravaṇaṁ kīrtanaṁ viṣṇoḥ*. That is the main business. That is pure devotional service. Because we cannot devote twenty-four hours in hearing and chanting, therefore we have extended our activities, program activities, in so many ways. Otherwise, *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam* is so nice, if you practice anywhere, any condition, simply by reading *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam,* you will be happy. So adopt this practice and make your spiritual life perfect more and more. --- **[1975: Initiation of Ambarīṣa dāsa](spoken/1975/750603in.hon)** > Similarly, Kṛṣṇa says, *evaṁ paramparā-prāptam imaṁ rājarṣayo*. This prescription is already there. And Kṛṣṇa selected Arjuna: "My dear Arjuna, I shall speak to you the whole philosophy which I instructed to sun-god." "Why You are prepared to instruct me?" Kṛṣṇa says, *bhakto 'si*, "Because you are My devotee; therefore I shall explain to you." Kṛṣṇa..., Arjuna was a family man, *gṛhastha*, a politician. He was not a Vedāntī. He was not a big scholar in *Vedānta*. *Kṣatriya.* He knew how to fight, how to fight with enemies. This much qualification he had. Although he was born in royal family, but he was not a Vedāntī or vast scholar in Vedic literature. No. But he was *bhakta.* That is the qualification. He was a devotee. Therefore Kṛṣṇa said, "I will speak to you *Bhagavad-gītā,* and you will understand the mystery of it because you are My devotee." This is the qualification. > And another thing is that while chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa *mantra,* if we are still attached to material attraction, that is also offense. The whole process is to become disgusted with material things. *Vīta-rāga*. Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement means we, all conditioned soul, we have come to this material world just to enjoy sense gratification independently. This is our main disease. Everyone in this material world is trying his best how to satisfy the senses. This is the material disease. And Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement means how to cure this material disease and go back to home, back to Godhead. Unless we cure our material disease, it is not possible to go back to home, back to Godhead. So we must be disinfected. This is the real process. So we have to taste it. *Bhaktiḥ pareśānubhavo viraktir anyatra syāt*. Advancement of material... And devotional service means proportionately we become detached to material attraction. --- **[1976: Room Conversation with Reporter](spoken/1976/760603iv.la)** > Ādau-mātā* means original mother, real mother. And *guroḥ patnī,* the wife of teacher. The wife of a *brāhmaṇa... Brāhmaṇa* means the most intellectual class of men in the human society, *brāhmaṇa.* It is not a caste; it is a section in every human society. Always, there is a class of men very intelli..., intelligent. They are called *brāhmaṇa.* So, *ādau-mātā, guroḥ patnī, brāhmaṇī, rāja-patnikā,* and the queen—formerly there were kings—she is also considered mother. And *dhenu* means cow is mother, because we drink her milk. She supplies milk. That's mother. And *pṛthvī,* in the earth, we are coming out. So earth is mother. Really we see coming. And there may be different varieties of sons. That doesn't matter. But anything coming out the earth—the earth is mother—and that is coming out, that is son. Then where is the father? There must be father. Is it possible mother can give birth to a child without father? > So instead of giving service in so many ways—social, political, philosophical, cultural, this way, that way—if you simply learn how to serve God, then everything will be done. So that is our philosophy, and we are laboring for this purpose, that you understand God and give service to Him, then the whole society will be perfect, peaceful. --- **[1976: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 6.1.37](spoken/1976/760603sb.la)** > This is Kṛṣṇa's words. So many things, these are important things. Kṛṣṇa says that "Always think of Me." So we are saying the same thing. "My dear friend, my dear student, my dear son, chant Hare Kṛṣṇa." Then you'll think of Kṛṣṇa. *Man-manā.* And who will chant Hare Kṛṣṇa? *Mad-bhakto.* Unless one agrees to become a devotee of Kṛṣṇa, why he'll chant? *Man-manā bhava mad-bhakto mad-yājī:* "You worship Me." So we have created this temple. Come on, worship Kṛṣṇa. And *māṁ namaskuru*—and whoever comes to the temple, he offers obeisances. We teach how to offer obeisances as soon as we enter. This is our business. Where is the difficulty? There is no difficulty. Either you are learned or a fool or rich or poor or black or white or American or Indian, Hindu, Muslim, never mind—take this lesson, you become perfect. So human society should take advantage of this movement and do these four things only—*man-manā bhava mad-bhakto mad-yājī māṁ namaskuru.* Then what is the... *Mām evaiṣyasi asaṁśayaḥ* : "I guarantee you come back to home, back to Godhead, by this process." > Jñāna-karmādy-anāvṛtam ānukūlyena kṛṣṇānuśīlanam*. Simply remain prepared how to execute the order of Kṛṣṇa. *Ānukūlyena.* "Kṛṣṇa says this; now I must do it." That is *vāsudevokta-kāriṇaḥ. Ukta* means whatever He says. So the Kṛṣṇa conscious life is not very difficult. It is very easy. In one second, if he agrees: "Yes, Kṛṣṇa, whatever You say, I shall do..." That Arjuna did at last, after hearing the whole *Bhagavad-gītā.* When Kṛṣṇa asked, inquired from him, "Now, what is your decision...?" Kṛṣṇa never interferes with your decision. You have got little independence. Kṛṣṇa has given you. But if you use your independence, do not like to obey the orders of Kṛṣṇa, that is your business. You can do that. Kṛṣṇa will not interfere with you. But Kṛṣṇa says that "If you want actually happiness, liberation, then follow what I say." That is Kṛṣṇa's request. As we are subordinate, Kṛṣṇa can order that "You must do it." That Kṛṣṇa does not say, never. *Kuru.* He says *sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja* : "You do it." He doesn't say "You must." That is your option. You can deny it. That is going on. Kṛṣṇa is instructing everything perfectly, but why people are not doing? That is his discretion. That Kṛṣṇa gives always. After teaching *Bhagavad-gītā* thoroughly, He asked Arjuna: "Now, Arjuna, I have spoken to you everything. Now it is up to you to do it or not to do it." *Yathecchasi tathā kuru*. Yathā-icchasi:* "Whatever you like, you do." He doesn't force, but Arjuna, that is..., means knowledge, Arjuna said *naṣṭo mohaḥ:* "My illusion is now over." *Naṣṭo mohaḥ smṛtir labdhā:* "Now I am remembering, I am memorizing my position," *tvat-prasādād,* "by Your grace." So *kariṣye vacanaṁ tava* : --- ## Letters on June 3 *Letters from this day: 11* --- **[1969: Letter to Madhudvisa](letters/1969/690603_madhudvisa)** > I can understand the disturbance of your mind, but why you keep yourself in such artificial disturbance? --- **[1969: Letter to Syamasundara](letters/1969/690603_syamasundara)** > I am very glad that the Queen has consented the Redundant Churches Bill, and there is good chance of getting one church for our temple. --- **[1970: Letter to Connie](letters/1970/700603_connie)** > The karmis are stated in the Bhagavad-gita as *mudha* or fools.
