*Lectures from this day: 7 recordings*

**[1972: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 2.3.11–12](spoken/1972/720529sb.la)**
> "Udāra-dhīḥ* means one who has a broader outlook. People with desires for material enjoyment worship small demigods, and such intelligence is condemned in the *Bhagavad-gītā* as *hṛta jñāna,* the intelligence of one who has lost his senses. No one can obtain any result from demigods without getting sanction from the Supreme Lord. Therefore a person with a broader outlook can see that the ultimate authority is the Lord, even for material benefits.
> Therefore one must come to the sense where these waves of material nature cannot act. That is real knowledge. Therefore it is said, *jñānaṁ yadā pratinivṛtta-guṇormi*. Urmi, urmi* means waves; *cakram,* in the whirlpool of the waves of the ocean of nescience. Just like they are taking pleasure in swimming with the waves. It is voluntarily taking, I mean, shelter of the ocean, and they like being tossed by the waves. And sometimes they are drowned also. That is our position. We have come to enjoy this ocean of material nescience, and there is tossing, and we are thinking we are enjoying. So when one comes to the knowledge that "This is not my platform of enjoyment. Let me go to the land," then he's safe. Then he's safe. Otherwise, he may think that he's enjoying, but he's actually being tossed by the waves of the ocean. And this is knowledge. *Jñānaṁ yadā pratinivṛtta.*

**[1974: Morning Walk](spoken/1974/740529mw.rom)**
> Bahiḥ* means external. Those who are captivated by the external feature, they cannot understand what we mean by Kṛṣṇa consciousness. The external feature, those who are on the bodily platform, they think this material advancement—big, big house, big, big road... This is also required, but this is not all. But they do not know that beyond this, there is other things which is really essential for the human form of... They are captivated by this, external, *bahiḥ.* Just like I am, *ahaṁ brahmāsmi,* I am *Brahman,* spirit soul. And this body is *bahiḥ,* the mind is *bahiḥ,* the intelligence is *bahiḥ.* That they cannot understand. This water is supplying, what is this?
> *...viduḥ svārtha-gatiṁ hi viṣṇuṁ durāśayā ye bahir-artha-māninaḥ*. Durāśayā,* some utopian hope of becoming happy. This is called *durāśayā.*

**[1975: Morning Walk on Waikiki Beach](spoken/1975/750529mw.hon)**
> He is thinking that "These, my wife, children and relatives and friends, will protect me not to be thrown out." But that is not possible. He will be thrown out. He will have to be kept out. And that is not by accident. Everyone knows, "Yes." That is not arranged. It is already arranged. Where is the question of accident? It will take place. But *paśyann api na paśyati,* he is so rascal, blind, although he knows, still he forgets. Forgets not; he *tries* to forget. *Paśyann api na paśyati. Śrama eva hi kevalam*.
> "The rascal does not know, nobody's permission will be accepted except My permission." This *mūḍhā* does not know. "He does not know it." Therefore he is *mūḍhā.* It is now looking so peaceful, nice, but with the permission of the Lord immediately there will be a heavy cloud and storm and waves and finished everything, within a second. That is permission. [laughs] Who cares for your permission?

**[1976: Morning Walk](spoken/1976/760529mw.hon)**
> Śukadeva*:* It is just like a person who wants to turn all the metal in the world into gold. He may be wishing and desiring to turn everything into gold, but actually it is not possible. So therefore they say that we want to be protected against the onslaught of material nature. But actually that will never happen. So therefore they create God in this way. Or some person who wants to turn all the metal into gold, but actually it's not possible.
> Hari-śauri:Sadāpūta.Prabhupāda:Sadāpūta.He has said nicely that "They depend on chance. We depend on God." That's all. [break] Some dress? No, bird.

**[1976: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 6.1.30](spoken/1976/760529sb.hon)**
>*etādṛśī tava kṛpā bhagavan mamāpi durdaivam īdṛśam ihājani nānurāgaḥ *. God realization... The atheist class, they say, "There is no God." But let him chant the God's holy name, he'll see God. There is no difficult process of... In the Kali-yuga especially, this is a special prerogative of this age because God realization is very, very difficult for them. But if they take advantage of Caitanya Mahāprabhu's mercy... It is... Caitanya Mahāprabhu's mercy means it is perpetual. Not that because Caitanya Mahāprabhu has introduced the *saṅkīrtana* movement, therefore the name is as good as the person. No. It is always, the name Nārāyaṇa or Kṛṣṇa, the name of the Supreme Lord, is as good as the Su... It is always. But in this age especially it has got special potency. That is the..., because we are all very, very fallen souls. [child crying] [aside:] The child. We are very, very fallen souls. We cannot do anything. It is very, very difficult. Although at any time, as it is said before, *kevalayā bhaktyā. Kecit kevalayā bhaktyā vāsudeva-parāyaṇāḥ*. Simply by *bhakti,* devotional service, one can become liberated from all contamination. That's a fact, especially in this age. Otherwise why the Europeans and Americans, they will join this movement and chant if there is no effective measure? Why? They are not fools, rascals; they are educated. They're coming from respectable family. It is not that we are befooling them to chant Hare Kṛṣṇa and dance. No. They are feeling ecstasy. It's a fact. Not blindly they are doing. Not only in one place—hundreds of centers. Why? That is the effect of chanting. If you chant, you get the effect, because the holy name and the Supreme Lord, there is no difference.
> So one business is to give protection to the devotee and to annihilate the *duṣkṛta,* those who are sinful. So for annihilating, it requires weapon, *śaṇkha, cakra, gadā, padma[?].* Lord Rāmacandra has got bows and arrows, and Kṛṣṇa has got Sudarśana-cakra. But here it is said, *sāṅga-upāṅga-astra.* What is that *astra,* weapon? Caitanya Mahāprabhu has no *astra.* Seemingly there's a... But this is *astra,* this *hari-saṅkīrtana.* This is *astra.* In the Kali-yuga there is no profit by killing them. They're already killed. So therefore this is the *astra.* To kill the miscreants this is *astra,* this *hari-saṅkīrtana.* If they simply chant Hare Kṛṣṇa, this is *astra* that will kill all their sinful reaction of life; they'll become devotee. This is *astra.* Now it is not required the bows and arrows or... Because they're already dead, because they have no conception of God. Simply fighting how to avoid God, this is their business. It is very difficult to convince them about the existence of... They're seeing every moment there is existence of God, but they're so stubborn, so much bewildered by *māyā,* they'll not. So under the circumstances Caitanya Mahāprabhu, He's therefore called *namo mahā-vadānyāya,* most munificent incarnation. Why? *Kṛṣṇa-prema-pradāya te*.

**[1977: Morning Conversation](spoken/1977/770529r1.vrn)**
> Indian (2): [Transl. Even now there are people who are still doing this natural treatment with practical hand and hatha-yoga. There are many nurses and compounders who still do this treatment with their own hands throughout the year. In Calcutta there are many Nature cure Hospitals where patients are treated throughout the year. They have in Calcutta and in different places. In Jasidih there is also one.]
> Indian (2): [Transl. Nature cure treatment is totally practical. It is done very practicaly. I mean to say with soft hand, soft hand and with lot of experience it has to be done. I cannot do anything that will cause you suffering.]

**[1977: Sannyāsa Initiation and Conversation with Svarūpa Dāmodara](spoken/1977/770529r2.vrn)**
> We have to follow *maharṣibhiḥ.* So "All *ācāryas* of India, they have taken *sannyāsa,* so I am also taking *sannyāsa.* The business is *parātma-niṣṭha.*" So what will be the benefit? *Ahaṁ tariṣyāmi duranta-pāram:* "This ocean of nescience is *duranta-pāram.* It is very, very difficult to cross over. But I'll cross over." How? *Tamaḥ.* This is darkness, *tamaḥ. Mukundāṅghri-niṣevayaiva:* "Simply by serving the lotus feet of Mukunda." Mukunda means "one who can give liberation, *mukti.*" Mukunda. So chant again this.
