# May 25 *Lectures from this day: 13 recordings* --- **[[spoken/660525bg.ny|Bg 3.16-17 — May 25, 1966, New York]]** Lord Kṛṣṇa, now He has described about a circle of activity ending in *yajña,* sacrifice. *Yajña... Yajña,* the proper word *yajña,* means Viṣṇu or the Supreme Lord. And another meaning of *yajña* is sacrifice. So that sacrifice is how to do. That we have been discussing for the last three or four days, that *yajña-śiṣṭāśinaḥ santo mucyante sarva-kilbiṣaiḥ* [[bg/3/13|[Bg. 3.13] ]]. Our whole trouble of life, this material existence, it is, according to Vedic literature, this is our condemned life, material, because I am put into a different atmosphere, this body, which I am not. The body is matter, and I am spirit soul. So I have been put into uncomfortable position by this material contact. --- **[[spoken/690525in.nv|Brāhmaṇa Initiation Lecture — May 25, 1969, New Vrindaban]]** --- **[[spoken/720525r1.la|Conversation with the GBC — May 25, 1972, Los Angeles]]** **Prabhupāda:** They agree. Everyone will agree. It is not a question. [laughter] First of all... [chuckles] First of all make the zone. Whatever I'll say, he'll agree. That is not the problem. [chuckles] First of all make up zone. **Bali-mardana:** Hong Kong... Two will be Hong Kong, North and South Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, New Guinea, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji Islands, Samoa and Tahiti. **Bali-mardana:** India, Pakistan, Burma, Bangladesh and Nepal. [indistinct] China. Then we have the Mediterranean zone. --- **[[spoken/720525sb.la|SB 2.3.8 and Initiations — May 25, 1972, Los Angeles]]** **Prabhupāda:** [*prema-dhvani*] Thank you very much. [devotees offer obeisances] Hmm. So, where is Pradyumna? *Nidrāhāra-vihārakādi-vijitau.* One has to conquer over sleeping, eating and sense enjoyment. *Nidrā, nidrā* means sleeping. *Āhāra* means eating or collecting more. Collecting. Eating, sleeping and *vihāra,* sense gratification. *Vijitau:* the Gosvāmīs, they conquered over that. --- **[[spoken/740525bg.rom|Bg 4.10, Public Lecture — May 25, 1974, Rome]]** **Dhanañjaya:** [aside, referring to microphones:] This goes to the whole room. This one does not. Take this one. **Prabhupāda:** ...I wish to thank you for your kindly participating in this festival. This Hare Kṛṣṇa movement is a spiritual movement. There is spirit soul within the body, and the material body is covering, just like shirt and coat, of the spirit soul. The spirit soul somehow or other is encaged within this material body. The problems of life there are many, but they are pertaining to the body. Real problem is how to get the spirit soul out of this material encagement. The body has got attachment for material enjoyment. Therefore in this verse it is said, *vīta-rāga,* how to become detached from this material attachment. *Rāga* means attachment; *vīta-rāga,* giving up this attachment. *Vīta-rāga-bhaya-krodhāḥ Bhaya* means fearfulness, and *krodha* means anger. Because we are attached to the material enjoyment, we are also very much always fearful how our enjoyment may not be disturbed. And if our material enjoyment is not fulfilled, we become angry. This is our position on account of this material body. Therefore spiritual culture means how to get out of this attachment, fearfulness and the position of becoming angry. --- **[[spoken/740525mw.rom|Morning Walk at Villa Borghese — May 25, 1974, Rome]]** **Prabhupāda:** *Yajña* means to satisfy the Supreme Lord. That is *yajña.* So in the Kali-yuga the *yajña* is made very easy: chant Hare Kṛṣṇa. So anywhere you go, chant Hare Kṛṣṇa, and see that there will be clouds, there will be rainfall, and just work little, you get your food grains, and chant Hare Kṛṣṇa. **Prabhupāda:** That means their... That is their disease. The same thing, that "Why you are sitting here? Come with me, work." "What shall I do by working?" "You get money. Then you'll enjoy." "And I am already enjoying." That they will not do. This is called *māyā. Māyā-sukhāya bharam udvahato vimūḍhān* [[sb/7/9/43|[SB. 7.9.43] ]]. These rascals, simply for little temporary, so-called benefit, they have created this working civilization, "Work very hard, very hard." That's all. Whole history... In this Rome city you can see. There are evidences. These buildings are constructed with hard labor. Now those rascals have gone, and they are maintaining, that "They worked so hard." That's all. Those who worked very hard, they have gone away. Now nobody knows where they are and what they have become. But they are maintaining their bricks. That's all. Brick civilization. [*japa*] [break] **Yogeśvara:** The little boy of President John Kennedy was in Central Park last week, and another boy came and pushed him to the ground and stole his bicycle. And, being poverty-stricken, they are simply after money, by hook and crook. So in the *Bhagavad-gītā* it is said that *bhogaiśvarya-prasaktānāṁ tayā apahṛta-cetasām* [[bg/2/44|[Bg. 2.44] ]]. --- **[[spoken/750525le.hon|Lecture after Prahlāda-caritra Play — May 25, 1975, Honolulu]]** **Prabhupāda:** ...saw this *Prahlāda-caritra* play, drama, is very instructive. Although it is not played on a very nice stage, theatrical, but the feeling expressed by the devotees in playing this *Prahlāda-caritra* has become very successful. We want to understand the feeling. Externally, we may not be very much equipped. Kṛṣṇa takes the feeling. *Bhāva-grāhī janardana.* [*CB Ādi-khaṇḍa* 11.108] "At the time of offering obeisances to Lord Viṣṇu, a foolish person chants *viṣṇāya namaḥ* (this is improper due to faulty grammar) and a learned person chants *viṣṇave namaḥ* (this is the correct form). But both achieve equal piety by their offering of obeisances, because Lord Śrī Janārdana sees the sentiment of the living being, in other words, He sees the degree of devotion, or in other words, He awards the result accordingly (He does not see one's foolishness or intelligence). So Prahlāda Mahārāja is one of the great personality in devotional line. *Dharmasya tattvaṁ nihitaṁ guhāyāṁ, mahājano yena gataḥ sa panthāḥ* [[cc/madhya/17/186|[Cc. Madhya 17.186] ]]. It is very difficult to understand what is the purpose of religious principle. People actually do not know what is religion; therefore we have got so many religious system, man-made, or concocted ideas. Actually, religion means the law given by God. That is religion. *Dharmaṁ tu sākṣād bhagavat-praṇītam* [[sb/6/3/19|[SB. 6.3.19] ]]. --- **[[spoken/760525mw.hon|Morning Walk — May 25, 1976, Honolulu]]** **Puṣṭa Kṛṣṇa:** You made the statement in your purport that the moon is giving life to the vegetation on this planet. So how *it* can be a desert? **Prabhupāda:** That I have described. They do not talk about moon. That means they did not go. That is now clear. [break] ...if you can answer my question why Monday first, er, yes, Sunday first and Saturday last? All over the world, in India also, Sunday, er, Monday first... No. Sunday first, Monday second. Ask your scientist friend why this arrangement, Sunday first, Monday second, Saturday last? --- **[[spoken/760525sb.hon|SB 6.1.25 — May 25, 1976, Honolulu]]** **Prabhupāda:** Twenty-five. *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevaya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevaya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevaya.* [devotees repeat] *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam,* Canto Six, Chapter One, verse number twenty-five. [leads devotees in chanting] So the youngest child was very dear. Everyone... *Sneha. Sneha* is, another meaning of *sneha* is oil, liquid. So *sneha* means affection. So this *sneha* word is used that there is a liquid, how you say it, goes to down. Liquid does not go up. Slow. Similarly, we have got some affection, the affection goes to the lowest. Therefore father, mother's affection generally goes to the youngest. So here also Ajāmila, although he's a cheat, he's a rogue, he's a thief, he has learned all the bad quality, but still the *sneha,* the affection, that is not lost. So this is natural. Similarly, we have got a natural feeling for Kṛṣṇa. If you study thoroughly, that is called meditation, that "Whom I love." Say for the first time, I love my body. If there is some danger I try to protect myself from the danger. That means I love my body. So the next question will be: "Then why don't you love a dead body?" Suppose your wife or husband, you love, because the husband and wife is in the body, within the body, *dehino 'smin yathā dehe* [[bg/2/13|[Bg. 2.13] ]]. --- **[[spoken/770525r1.vrn|Short Discussions — May 25, 1977, Vṛndāvana]]** **Prabhupāda:** [Transl. *That I will go there and stay, for that some arrangements should be made.]**Indian man (1):**[Transl. *About what?
