*Lectures from this day: 8 recordings*

**[1968: Brāhmaṇa Initiation Lecture with Professor O'Connell](spoken/1968/680506in.bos)**
> And in the *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam* also it is said that who requires a spiritual master. That is also said. *Tasmād guruṁ prapadyeta*. One..., let one surrender himself unto the spiritual master. Who is that one? *Jijñāsuḥ.* One who is inquisitive. What about inquisitiveness? *Jijñā..., śreya uttamam.* The highest perfectional stage of life. If one is inclined what is transcendental life, what is spiritual life, what is perfection of life, if one is inclined to this subject matter, for him there is necessity of approaching a bona fide spiritual master.
> One who has followed strictly the rules and regulation and chanted sixteen rounds Hare Kṛṣṇa at least, so he is given the second chance. The third chance is to offer renunciation. If he wants to completely in the service of the Lord, there is *sannyāsa.* Just like the other day we were discussing, *anāśritaḥ karma-phalaṁ kāryaṁ karma karoti yaḥ, sa sannyāsī*. Of course, these are formal regulative principles. Real life is within: how much one is sincere in the service of the Lord.

**[1968: Talk After Lecture](spoken/1968/680506r1.bos)**
> So you have some taste for it. You can help us to keep Boston this city of pilgrimage. We need engagements for Swāmījī. The universities will be closing... Well, some of them are almost already closed. But if you have any access to a nice engagement, a church or a club where people attend, please approach us and help us to spread in this way.
> Also we have a Love Feast here in the temple every Sunday at noon, and this is very sumptuous *bhakti-yoga* Love Feast, with Indian delicacies that you'll certainly enjoy. So approach this way. We'll take collections at this time also. You can help us very solidly by putting in all that you can.

**[1969: Wedding Ceremony and Lecture](spoken/1969/690506we.bos)**
> God is situated in everyone's heart. Simply you do not know. He is situated. He is everywhere. Within the atom also, He is present. *Andantarastham paramanu cayantarastham* [Bs. 5.35]. God is present within this world, within everything, everywhere, even within the atom. Now, at the present moment, the atomic theory is very prominent, but in the Vedic literature it is said that God is existing even within the atom. *Aṇḍāntara-stha-paramāṇu. Paramāṇu* means atom. Therefore *īśvaraḥ sarva-bhūtānāṁ hṛd-deśe 'rjuna tiṣṭhati*.
> We allow everything. But everything is targeted to achieve to the highest goal of life, Viṣṇu or Kṛṣṇa. That is the significance of this life. We don't stop anything, but we regulate everything to achieve the highest perfection of life. That is our aim. *Adānta-gobhir viśatāṁ tamisram*. One who does not know this technique... Everyone, every living entity, is by nature hankering after joy, joyful life. That is his nature. Because... Kṛṣṇa and Rādhārāṇī, you see. They are also transcendental unity. Kṛṣṇa is representing as a young boy, sixteen years.

**[1970: Śrī Īśopaniṣad, Mantra 1–4](spoken/1970/700506ip.la)**
> But under the spell of *māyā* we are thinking that this kicking of *māyā,* this slapping of *māyā,* this splashing of *māyā* is very nice. You see? This is called *māyā.* And as soon as you get into Kṛṣṇa consciousness, then Kṛṣṇa takes care of you. *Ahaṁ tvāṁ sarva-pāpebhyo mokṣayiṣyāmi mā śucaḥ*. Kṛṣṇa, as soon as you surrender, Kṛṣṇa's immediate word is, "I take care of you. I save you from all..., from all sinful reaction."
> This is very important verse. *Evaṁ tvayi nānyathe..., nānyathā ato asti na karma lipyate nare.* If you know it that everything belongs to Kṛṣṇa, in this way if you live for hundreds of years and do your duties, there will be no reaction. The very thing is confirmed in the *Bhagavad-gītā: yajñārthāt karmaṇo 'nyatra loko 'yaṁ karma-bandhanaḥ*.
---
**[1973: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.8.44](spoken/1973/730506sb.la)**
> So the whole world is dissatisfied because the spiritual hunger is not satisfied. Kṛṣṇa is the central point. So spiritual hunger means... We are, our general propensity is to satisfy our hunger. So Kṛṣṇa is the center; Kṛṣṇa is the root, *mūla. Yathā taror mūla-niṣecanena tṛpyanti tat-skandha-bhujopaśākhāḥ*. Just like watering to the root, you can satisfy the whole tree—the trunk, branches, twigs, leaves, flowers, fruits, everything—if there is water in the root. Similarly, Kṛṣṇa is the root of all creation. *Ahaṁ sarvasya prabhavaḥ:* "Everything is emanating from Me," Kṛṣṇa says. *Ahaṁ sarvasya prabhavo mattaḥ sarvaṁ pravartate*. Whatever you see, that is coming from Kṛṣṇa. There are so many other words.
> That's the fact. That is the fact. Kṛṣṇa says in the *Bhagavad-gītā, yo me bhaktyā prayacchati. Patraṁ puṣpaṁ phalaṁ toyaṁ yo me bhaktyā prayacchati*.* Kṛṣṇa says that "A little flower, little water, little fruit—that's all—if somebody offers Me with devotion and love, then I eat." Kṛṣṇa is not hungry. Kṛṣṇa is not hungry. He is self-satisfied, *pūrṇa.* But if His devotee offers Him something with love and affection, then He accepts. So do not think that "We have made such nice, sumptuous plate for Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa must eat." No. There is no such thing "must." You cannot make Kṛṣṇa must. That is not possible. So Kṛṣṇa will see how much you have love for Him. Then He will accept. Otherwise He'll reject.
---
**[1974: Morning Walk](spoken/1974/740506mw.bom)**
>has written about Kṛṣṇa by Vyāsadeva, and people say, "There was no Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa, it is all fictitious." Vyāsadeva had to take so much trouble for some fictitious. Just see their intelligence. Even no common sense. Why Śukadeva Gosvāmī will take interest? Why Vyāsadeva will write such book? Therefore they do not recognize that *Bhāgavata* is written by Vyāsadeva. But how they can deny? *Bhagavad-gītā,* that is also written by Vyāsadeva.
>can see here United Nation actually. Here is Britisher, here is American, here is African, here is Indian, here is Hindu, Canadian, Hindu, Muslim, Christian—all. This is United Nation. Just let them see practically what is United Nation. *Brāhmaṇa, kṣatriya, vaiśya, śūdra*—all combined in Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Why do they not see? The so-called unity, brotherhood, why do they not see the reality?
---
**[1975: Evening Discussion](spoken/1975/750506ed.per)**
> So purify yourself and you'll see God, whatever No other way. So Kṛṣṇa consciousness means to become purified. Then you'll see always. *Premāñjana-cchurita-bhakti-vilocanena santaḥ sadaiva* [Bs. 5.38]*. Sadaiva* means always. This is the process. Why these rascals say, "Can you show me God?" What qualification you have got? He doesn't think like that, that "I have no qualification." He thinks that "I am very advanced." That is foolishness. Therefore Kṛṣṇa says, *nāhaṁ prakāśaḥ.* Similarly, a third-class man goes to a high-court judge. Sends his card. What the Justice will say? "Who is this man?" "I don't know." There was an incident, one big philosopher and one big dramatic player. He was also very famous. So he went to see that philosopher and sent his card. He said, "Oh, why shall I see this dancing dog? He may be famous as a dancing dog, but I have no business with him. Actually when he is a philosopher. If some philosopher comes, then it will be a pleasure to talk with him. What does he know? He may be expert in dancing. It is not philosophy." So he refused to see him. "Why shall I see this dancing dog?" He used these words, "He's a dancing dog." He came, as a dog is dancing." So similarly, why this ordinary man claims to see God? A dancing dog. A devotee says that *marma-hatāṁ karotu vā [*Śikṣāṣṭaka* 8]. A devotee is always anxious to see God, but He said that "I am not qualified. So even I become broken-hearted not seeing God, still Kṛṣṇa is My Lord. I *may* see, or may not see. That is His mercy. But in all circumstances, He is My worshipful Lord." That is devotee. "Oh, I could not see God? I have done so much." Kṛṣṇa is not so obliged that because by concoction you think you have done something, and therefore He is obliged to come before you and dance. Kṛṣṇa is not so little.
> He is the supreme pure, and we are impure, and you want to see the supreme pure. You see? What audacity! I am not fire; I want to enter into the fire. You see? What will be the result? You'll be burned into ashes. First of all be fire. Increase your temperature to the same temperature, then it will automatically. He is P*ara-brahman,* so you realize yourself as *Brahman.* You are realizing yourself as American, Indian, this, that, and you want to see P*ara-brahman?* The foolish people will do like that. And one has to become purified, *sarvopādhi vinirmuktaṁ*. One has to be free from all designations. Everyone, we give more prominence to the designations: "I am this, I am this." So how can you see God like that? First of all you become designation*less.* As Caitanya Mahāprabhu said, that "I am not a *brāhmaṇa.* I am not a *kṣatriya.* I am not a *vaiśya"—*everything He denied.
---
**[1976: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 6.1.2](spoken/1976/760506sb.hon)**
> Everything is explained. And therefore Kṛṣṇa comes. We have got *pravṛtti* to enjoy this material world. Kṛṣṇa comes personally, that "This will not help you." He comes personally: "You give up this habit. You simply surrender to Me. I will take you back to home, back to Godhead." This is... *Pravṛttir eṣāṁ bhūtānāṁ nivṛttes tu mahā-phalam.* [*Manu-saṁhitā* 5.56] We are inclined to enjoy this material world, but if we stop this material enjoyment, we are fit for spiritual enjoyment. That is the philosophy. Therefore Kṛṣṇa says in the *Bhagavad-gītā* that *aśraddhadhānāḥ puruṣā.*
> Kṛṣṇa is not a hungry man like me, that "If you give Me something, I will eat everything, finished." No. Kṛṣṇa can take the whole plate; still it will remain the whole plate, for giving *prasādam.* So try to understand Kṛṣṇa in this way. And if you actually understand Kṛṣṇa, you are liberated immediately. *Janma karma ca divyaṁ me yo jānāti tattvataḥ . How Kṛṣṇa eats, how Kṛṣṇa thinks, how Kṛṣṇa works, if you understand all these things, then immediately you become liberated. *Tyaktvā dehaṁ punar janma naiti mām eti.* You immediately become. The only thing is we are rotting in this material world because we do not know Kṛṣṇa. That is the... You'll not be admitted in the spiritual kingdom unless you know Kṛṣṇa, what He is. And as soon as you understand Kṛṣṇa, you are fit—"Come on." *Tyaktvā dehaṁ punar janma naiti mām eti kaunteya.* And as soon as you go, *yad gatvā na nivartante tad dhāma paramaṁ mama .*
