# May 2 *Lectures from this day: 10 recordings* --- **[[spoken/690502le.bos|Lecture to International Student Society — May 2, 1969, Boston]]** **Prabhupāda:** I understand that your..., this society is known as International Student Society? Yes. There are many other international societies. There are international United Nations also. The idea is very nice, but we should try to understand—internationally or universally—what is the central idea. Just like if you throw a stone in the middle of water, it expands. It becomes..., the circle expands, and the circle goes to the limit of the bank of the water. That is the way. The vibration, sound vibration also, radio message also. Similarly, the circle increases, and you capture the waves and you understand. Similarly, international feeling can be extended also. In the beginning of our life, just like a child, *anna-brahma:* everything he wants to eat. A small child, whatever he captures he wants to eat. Personal interest. Then, when the child grows, he tries to participate with his other brothers and sisters: "All right. You also take little." This is increasing the feeling of fellowship. Then he grows again; he feels for his father, parents, society, then community, country and, at last, international. Expansion. But in such feeling, unless the center is right, that expansion of feeling, universally or internationally or nationally even, that is not perfect. That is not perfect. Take, for example, internationally. In your country, what is the meaning of national? National means one who has taken birth in that particular country. Is that all right? National? You feel for another American because he is born in this country. Or any other country, Indian. That national feeling..., that is called national feeling. You feel for your countrymen. You sacrifice your life for your country. --- **[[spoken/700502ip.la|Śrī Īśopaniṣad, Mantra 1 — May 2, 1970, Los Angeles]]** **Prabhupāda:** > oṁ pūrṇam adaḥ pūrṇam idaṁ > pūrṇāt pūrṇam udacyate > pūrṇasya pūrṇam ādāya > pūrṇam evāvaśiṣyate > [Īśo Invocation] --- **[[spoken/720502sb.tok|SB 2.9.6-14 — May 2, 1972, Tokyo]]** **Pradyumna:** [leads chanting of verses] [**Prabhupāda and devotees repeat] > ...upāśṛṇod dvir-gaditaṁ vaco vibhuḥ > sparśeṣu yat ṣoḍaśam ekaviṁśaṁ > niṣkiñcanānāṁ nṛpa yad dhanaṁ viduḥ > [[sb/2/9/6|[SB. 2.9.6] ]] --- **[[spoken/730502mw.la|Morning Walk — May 2, 1973, Los Angeles]]** **Svarūpa Dāmodara:** Recently I went to a lecture called "The Origin of Life." It was given by a well-known biochemist whose name is Professor Stanley Miller. He was talking about the origin of life. **Svarūpa Dāmodara:** He said there are twenty amino acids, twenty of them, which are necessary for the maintenance of life, the living entities. So he was discussing how these amino acids are formed before the dawn of creation, and he had so many theories, all nonsense. **Svarūpa Dāmodara:** Yes. Then there was... After his lecture... It was a one hour long seminar, and there was question and answer. So they invited questions. Nobody asked. --- **[[spoken/730502sb.la|SB 1.8.40 — May 2, 1973, Los Angeles]]** **Pradyumna:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* [leads chanting of verse] [Prabhupāda and devotees repeat] ...—all these; *jana-padāḥ*—cities and towns; *svṛddhāḥ*—flourished; *supakva*—nature; *auṣadhi*—herbs; *vīrudhaḥ*—vegetables; *vana*—forests; *adri*—hills; *nadī*—rivers; *udanvantaḥ*—seas; *hi*—certainly; *edhante*—increasing; *tava*—Your; *vīkṣitaiḥ*—seen. --- **[[spoken/740502mw.bom|Morning Walk — May 2, 1974, Bombay]]** **Prabhupāda:** *yoginaḥ yasyāntaṁ na viduḥ surāsura-gaṇā* [[sb/12/13/1|[SB. 12.13.1] ]]. Kṛṣṇa made a test, that "These *brāhmaṇas* are very much proud of their learning, Vedic knowledge. [break] They do not know Me." *Yatatām api siddhānām* [[bg/7/3|[Bg. 7.3] ]]. Eh? Yatatām api siddhānām.* They were *siddhas,* but they do not know Kṛṣṇa. Yes. **Prabhupāda:** Yes, on the *sāttvika.* Yes, you are right. One has to go above the *sāttvika* position, *śuddha-sattva. Of course, the Deities Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa and Guru-Gaurāṅga also will be there. There will be three compartments, in the fashion of our Vṛndāvana temple. And I thank you very much for your encouraging association in this matter. --- **[[spoken/760502r1.fij|Room Conversation — May 2, 1976, Fiji]]** **Prabhupāda:** That is the difficulty. Everyone sees that "Some way or other, I become *guru*. Then so many persons will offer me respect. Somehow or other, create some situation. Then I become *guru.*" This is going on. Not bona fide *guru.* Bona fide *guru* is indicated by Caitanya Mahāprabhu, *āmāra ājñāya guru hañā:* "Become *guru.*" Why ambition? Actually become *guru.* But how to become *guru*? *Yāre dekha, tāre kaha 'kṛṣṇa-upadeśa'* [[cc/madhya/7/128|[Cc. Madhya 7.128] ]]. That's it; otherwise *goru.* So they will not take this simple method. They will drink, they will hunt after woman and have some attractive singing or dancing and become *guru*. What is meaning of *guru,* they do not know. Somehow or other become popular and become *guru.* This is going on. So with *māyā* you can attract these foolish rascals very easily, if you can manufacture. You cannot, but if you can show some jugglery, then you become *guru*. People are after all these things, material things. They are not after Kṛṣṇa. They are after money and women. So if you give some *mantra,* then gold will be manufactured, and all women will be attracted, very first class. **Gurukṛpā:** You know, Śrīla Prabhupāda, they say that if anyone has power to induce anybody to chant Hare Kṛṣṇa, therefore they must have some special power. Therefore that's their qualification. --- **[[spoken/770502r1.bom|Conversation with Shri Narayan — May 2, 1977, Bombay]]** Śrīmān Nārāyaṇa: [Transl. Yes, less than Wardha. I was thinking to..., if I had some free time, that I could work on writing some essay about nationalism. **Tamāla Kṛṣṇa:** Well, you've been mentioning so many times about how foolish the..., so many people are. Under the banner of nationalism they are basing their whole life. **Prabhupāda:** But they'll not hear. If you forbid the dogs, "Don't bark," it is like that.
