# April 30 ## Spoken on April 30 *Lectures from this day: 10 recordings* --- **[1969: Northeastern University Lecture](spoken/1969/690430le.bos)** > So these things are very restricted in order to reach that transcendental platform. But in this age, in this Age of Kali, where everything is disturbed, always full of anxieties, and the life is very short... That is also explained in the *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam: prāyeṇa kalau asmin yuge janāḥ.* Life is very short, and they are not interested for any transcendental subject matter. They are interested only with the bodily concept of life. *Mandāḥ sumanda-matayo manda-bhāgyā hy upadrutāḥ*.* And always disturbed by so many anxieties. How he can ascend to the platform of transcendental realization? It is very difficult in this age. > So my point is that, as stated in the *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam,* that this bodily concept of life is not very sanguine. *Yasyātma-buddhiḥ kuṇape tri-dhātuke.* This body, composition of several things like bones and skins and blood and urine and stool and secretion, so many things, that is not right calculation of self-realization. --- **[1969: Room Conversation](spoken/1969/690430r1.bos)** > Nāhaṁ prakāśaḥ sarvasya yoga-māyā-samāvṛtaḥ*. Kṛṣṇa says in the *Bhagavad-gītā* that "I am not exposed to everyone. There is a curtain of *yogamāyā.*" The *yogamāyā* will not allow to see God. Just like we have our condition that if anyone wants to see here in the temple, we ask him that "First of all take [off] your shoes." Just like a little condition. Similarly, to see God, there must be some condition. That condition is that unless you become a lover of God, God is not exposed to you. Otherwise God is there, always. *Premāñjana-cchurita-bhakti-vilocanena santaḥ sadaiva hṛdayeṣu* [Bs. 5.38]. > So Kṛṣṇa says that *mṛtyuḥ sarva-haram, āham*. Mṛtyu,* death, takes away everything. Your education, title, M.A., Ph.D., D.A.C., your bank balance, millions of dollars, your good name, your house, your family, your friends, your country—all taken away. All taken away. So for atheist, this is God. When He'll take away everything, he'll understand, "Yes, there is God." Yes. Just like a civil disobedient person, when he's arrested and he's put into the bars and given severe punishment, then he understands, "Yes, there is government. There is government." --- **[1970: Śrī Īśopaniṣad, Mantra 1](spoken/1970/700430ip.la)** > So this is superiority, that the living entity can have some control over the material energy. That is explained in the *Bhagavad-gītā: yayedaṁ dhāryate jagat*. The..., the importance of this material world is due to the living entities. This Los Angeles city is valuable so long the living entities are there. The body's valuable so long the living entity, soul, is there. Therefore it is superior. > So when one is realizing who the source of the energies..., of all these energies are, who are the proprietor, who are the controller of the energy, then by the Lord's mercy, the Lord being the controller of all these energies, that entity can become free from the covering, from the influence of the material energy, and can resume his natural constitutional position as superior energy and function and exist on that platform in realization of both energies and his relationship with the supreme energy of the Supreme Lord, Kṛṣṇa. --- **[1972: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 11.23.57, Initiations and Sannyāsa of Sudāmā](spoken/1972/720430in.tok)** > So the real purpose is that whatever you do, *yat karoṣi;* whatever you eat, *yat aśnāsi;* whatever you sacrifice, *yad juhoṣi;* whatever..., *yad dadāsi,* whatever you give in charity... Because these things are ordinary activities. Kṛṣṇa says, *kuruṣva tad mad-arpanam:* "You give Me that. If you are eating, the food must be given to Me first. If you are working, the resultant profit should be given to Me. Or even loss, that will also given to Me." *Yat karoṣi yad aśnāsi yaj juhoṣi* : "And whatever sacrificing," *dadāsi yat,* "whatever you give in charity, so give it to Me." This is *sannyāsa.* > Nitya* means eternal. We living entities, we are all eternal. That is very nicely explained in *Bhagavad-gītā: na hanyate hanyamāne śarīre*. Those who under the impression that after finishing annihilation of this body, everything is finished, they are not in perfect knowledge. The living entity continues to exist either in this body or in another body. Just like very simple example we can understand: All of us sitting here, we had a small baby body. I existed, you existed, in that baby body, but that body is not now existing, but I am existing. I know that "I existed in a baby body, I existed in a boyhood body, I existed in a youthhood body. Now I am existing in this old age body. Similarly, when this body is finished, I shall again exist in another body." This is the right conclusion. Therefore, *na hanyate hanyamāne śarīre* : after the destruction of this body, *ātmā,* or the spirit soul, is not destroyed or annihilated. He continues. --- **[1972: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 2.9.1–5](spoken/1972/720430sb.tok)** > He is not actually inventor or discoverer. He is not. He tried. "Man proposes; God disposes." Here is the Brahmā's problem is also. If Brahmā is self-sufficient to create, why he is in perplexity? He is in perplexity. Lord Brahmā, the first spiritual master, supreme being, supreme—he is supreme—could not trace out the source of his lotus... He could not trace out wherefrom he is born, and what to speak of other things. This is our intelligence. > There are many chemists who are discovering many compositions, mixing this liquid in a test tube. All of a sudden they see it has come successful—they take it as chance. So therefore their rascal brain cannot understand that it is the chance... It is not chance; it is an opportunity given by Kṛṣṇa to you: "You are so much laboring hard. All right, do it." --- **[1973: Morning Walk](spoken/1973/730430mw.la)** > Only the dowry which is given by the father at the time of her marriage. That much. But she could not claim any state share. Therefore at the time of marriage, the dowry by ornaments, *sārīs*... Hundred pieces of *sārī*, if one is rich man; all Banarasi *sārī*, costly. And woman's nature is that if she gets good ornaments, *sārīs,* good food, she's satisfied. She doesn't want anything. She'll never become faithless to her husband. > Natural beauty... Natural beauty's lost. Did you mark it? Between a woman having natural children, her beauty's better than the girl using contraceptive. It is natural. As soon as you check natural system, you become in difficulty. The... Still the system is current. *Kṣatriyas,* kings, when they are married... You have seen, Kṛṣṇa's father's marriage. So many women also were given. --- **[1973: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.8.38](spoken/1973/730430sb.la)** > Therefore Kṛṣṇa says, *mayādhyakṣeṇa prakṛtiḥ sūyate sa-carācaram* : "You are seeing the energy, or the wonderful action and reaction of this material cosmic manifestation. But don't think that they are working independently. No. I am behind there." So where is the difficulty to understand? Or from example you can understand that how things can go on nicely without a nice brain behind these things? It is conclusion. *Mayādhyakṣeṇa.* And Kṛṣṇa says further, *mayā tatam idaṁ sarvam avyakta-mūrtinā*. Avyakta.* > So the sunshine is working because the sun globe is there, the sun-god is there. Similarly, the material energy is working. This cosmic manifestation made of earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and ego... These are the eight ingredients of this material manifestation. So these eight material elements, they are energies, separated energy. *Bhinnā me prakṛtir aṣṭadhā*. And because the energetic is there behind this energy... Just like electric power. We are using electric power, but behind this electric power there is the powerhouse and there is the engineer who is producing the power. The rascals, they do not understand this. They simply see the power. But behind the power there is the power-maker, the source of power. They do not understand it. Therefore Kṛṣṇa comes and says that "I am the power-maker. I am behind this power." --- **[1976: Room Conversation](spoken/1976/760430r1.fij)** > Anyone who accepts this body as self, he's animal. He's not even a human being. So the whole world is on this bodily concept of life. That is going on: "American," "European," "Hindu," "Muslim," "black," "white," this, that. They do not know what is education. That is the first education, that "You rascal, you are not this body. You are within the body." So who understands this? And they're declaring that "We are student of *Bhagavad-gītā.* We have studied *Bhagavad-gītā*." Hmm? Even Gandhi, he takes photograph with *Bhagavad-gītā,* but his fighting is for nationalism. The others are doing that. So what is the use of taking *Bhagavad-gītā*? The Pakistanis are also doing that. But you have taken *Bhagavad-gītā,* you are doing the same work. So what is your credit? This is going on. So nobody is learning *Bhagavad-gītā.* It is first time that we are teaching *Bhagavad-gītā* as it is. Otherwise, everyone is misled. The subject matter is that the soul is different from this body. > If he's convinced this body is useless, a lump of matter only, but the soul is the prime factor, similarly, he'll very easily understand that there is huge, gigantic material body of earth, water, air, fire, sky, they are working so wonderfully on account of the Supersoul. That is stated in the *Bhagavad-gītā: athavā bahunaitena kiṁ jñātena tavārjuna.* Find out this verse. --- **[1977: Morning Conversation](spoken/1977/770430r1.bom)** > Now you have to give some..., some idea people can understand. It is not possible to give complete. But it is a fact. The whole planetary system is hanging downwards. That is confirmed in the *Bhagavad-gītā, ūrdhva-mūlam adhah-śākham aśvatthaṁ prāhur avyayam*. That is a fact. It is hanging and moving. And moon is above the sun. They have never gone. Now they are exposing. "Moon walks." > By action and reaction it is improving. *Kāma-haitukam.* Just like a man, woman, all of a sudden meet and there is a child. This is their reasoning. There is no plan. There is no brain. Such huge thing, how it has come into existence? --- **[1977: Conversation with Vedic Astronomer Agnihotram Rāmānuja Tattvācārya](spoken/1977/770430r2.bom)** > > naumīḍya te 'bhra-vapuṣe taḍid-ambarāya > > guñjāvataṁsa-paripiccha-lasan-mukhāya > > vanya-sraje kavala-vetra-viṣāṇa-veṇu- > > lakṣma-śriye mṛdu-pade paśupāṅgajāya > > > > asyāpi deva vapuṣo mad-anugrahasya > > svecchā-mayasya na tu bhūta-mayasya ko 'pi > > neśe mahi tv avasituṁ manasāntareṇa > > ākṣāt tavaiva kim utātma-sukhānubhūteḥ > > ## Letters on April 30 *Letters from this day: 14* --- **[1966: Letter to Reserve Bank Of India](letters/1966/660430_reserve_bank_of_india)** > I beg to inform you that I am a Vaisnava Sannyasi in the line of Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. --- **[1969: Letter to Gopala Krsna](letters/1969/690430_gopala_krsna)** > You are very anxious to have engagement in Krishna's service, so my immediate best service for you is to help organize the sales promotion of my books. --- **[1969: Letter to Harer Nama](letters/1969/690430_harer_nama)** > In Montreal also they are writing songs in the popular Western style of music and it is coming very nicely. --- **[1969: Letter to Isanadas](letters/1969/690430_isanadas)** > I am pleased that you are taking serious interest in helping us spread this sublime movement of Lord Caitanya to the Western World, which has such urgent need of this knowledge. --- **[1970: Letter to Brahmananda](letters/1970/700430_brahmananda)** > Regarding printing KRSNA book in Japan because the printing details are difficult here in this country, that was my former decision.
