**Prabhupāda:** ...*gītā.* Unfortunately, there are so many interpretations by so many unscrupulous persons, so-called scholars and philosophers, that they have spoiled the precept of *Bhagavad-gītā*. So we are just trying to present *Bhagavad-gītā* as it is to the world, and I am very happy to inform you, you know, that all over the world, wherever I am going, I am preaching this philosophy, they are being accepted. So I am also very glad that in this distant place, Hong Kong, from India, you are training your children in Kṛṣṇa consciousness. It is a very good sign. Their life will be very happy. So continue this process, try to understand the Kṛṣṇa philosophy, try to help this movement.
I may refer in this connection that Subhas Chandra Bose, you know Netajī, he organized his Indian National Army outside India, because in India he was unable to organize. The circumstances were so awkward, even Mahatma Gandhi would not allow him. That was his position. So you know very well how Subhas Chandra Bose came out of his country and organized the INA movement, and practically India's got independence due to Subhas Bose's INA movement, not Gandhi's non-cooperation movement. That is a fact.
So India has to give something to the world, and that is this Kṛṣṇa consciousness. This Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is so nice it can solve all the problems of human society. So in India, even our Indians are prepared to help to propagate this movement all over the world. Our government is so nice that it will not allow. It will not allow. Not a single farthing is allowed to come out of India. So there are so many obstacles, but I am working in this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement single-handed, so it is very pleasing to me that you are taking so much interest. So continue to support this movement spread all over the world, and I am sure people will be benefited.

**Prabhupāda:** There is such proposition that he should exist, he should not exist. Then there must be some authority to give such order. That is answered in *Bhagavad-gītā.* Kṛṣṇa says, *mayādhyakṣeṇa* [[bg/9/10|[Bg. 9.10] ]]: "Under My superintendence, nature is working." *Harer nāma harer nāma harer nāma...* [*Cc Ādi* 7.76].
**Svarūpa Dāmodara:** He also says that the species are not created independently. They say it is descended from..., one after another.
**Prabhupāda:** So if there is no question of independence, then how, abruptly, he can begin from a certain species? You must explain wherefrom this species came into existence. *Harer nāma harer nāma...*

**Pradyumna:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* [leads chanting of verse] [**Prabhupāda and **devotees repeat]
**Pradyumna:** *namaḥ*—all obeisances unto You; *akiñcana-vittāya*—unto the property of the materially impoverished; *nivṛtta*—completely transcendental to the actions of the material modes; *guṇa*—material modes; *vṛttaye*—affection; *ātma-ārāmāya*—one who is self-satisfied; *śāntāya*—the most gentle; *kaivalya-pataye*—unto the master of the monists; *namaḥ*—bowing down.

**Nitāi:*Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* [**Prabhupāda and** devotees repeat] [leads chanting of verse]
**Translation:** "O scion of Bharata, you should understand that I am also the knower in all bodies, and to understand this body and its owner is called knowledge. That is My opinion."

**Prabhupāda:** The Lord appears here and says: *man-manā bhava mad-bhakto* [[bg/18/65|[Bg. 18.65] ]], think of me constantly. *man-manā mad-bhaktah*, become my devotee. the Lord says that become My devotee not of anyone else. This should be understood. If someone says that I am a devotee of someone or something else. That will not do. The Lord is saying *man mana bhava mad-bhakto*, become My devotee.
Everyone is a devotee of someone or something always. Some people are devotees of their household. Some are devoted to their country. Some are devoted to their society. Some are devoted to the bottle, everyone is some kind of a devotee. No one can exist without being devoted to something or someone.
Because their real business is to become devoted, however they choose to become devoted to everything else, up to a dog, but not God. They have to become devotees anyway, but they don't want to become devotees of God. This is their disease, their ailment. Therefore, the Lord says regarding all those who are devoted to anything else, *daivī hy eṣā guṇa-mayī mama māyā duratyayā* [[bg/7/14|[Bg. 7.14] ]], so *māyā* makes them sleep, saying; "why become a devotee of God? Become my devotee, become a devotee of all these demigods". *Kāṅkṣantaḥ karmaṇāṁ siddhiṁ yajanta iha devatāḥ* [[bg/4/12|[Bg. 4.12] ]], this is how we are entangled."

**Mahāṁsa:** Pious people, they see that actually they are not giving any spiritual benefit by converting them into Christianity. So they are very against this. They want some original Vedic school, *gurukula* schools.
**Prabhupāda:** Yes. So that is, we have done already. Satsvarūpa has got practical experience. He can give you advice. He started this *gurukula.* Practically this *gurukula* I suggested, but he began. Yes. So you can take practical advice from him. [break]
**Prabhupāda:** Building is not very important. Work is important. Activity is important. I started my movement not with buildings, but real activity. So building is opulence. But we can do without opulence. You can start anything, even underneath a tree. There is no difficulty. [break] They will allow our men?

**Prabhupāda:** [indistinct] ...nobody said that this meat-eating is bad; now I am saying. You see? So they do not know that it is bad. So they are not offenders.
**Prabhupāda:** Yes. Somebody, they act... Just like illicit sex. They did not know that it is sinful. Now they are understanding. There was no good leader. Even the priests. In the Bible it is said, "Thou shall not kill." The priests never said, because they are meat-eaters. They themselves are meat-eaters. How they can say? "It is our tradition to eat meat." But how the common man will be educated? [break] You can give me the general *prasāda* today. I will taste. [break] When one become rich, he becomes lazy. What is called? "Leads to poverty"? Hmm? Luxury. "Luxury leads to poverty." So at one time one become very rich by hard work, and next generation gets the money for nothing, he spends it on luxury, and the third generation, poor. There are many families, in everywhere. In England, all these English men, in the beginning they worked very hard, expanding their empire and working. Then gradually, when they became Lord family, then luxury. Now they are poverty-stricken.
**Prabhupāda:** Yes. Especially Holland and England. Holland and England and France, there was competition for colonization. The same colonization is there in America, Canada. The Frenchmen and... What is that?

**Prabhupāda:** ...the animals and human beings. Then they can work. *Annād bhavanti bhūtāni,* then *parjanyād anna-sambhavaḥ* [[bg/3/14|[Bg. 3.14] ]]. Now *parjanyaḥ,* cloud and rain, that is required. *Parjanyād anna-sambhavaḥ.* And *yajñād bhavati parjanyaḥ* [[bg/3/14|[Bg. 3.14] ]]. Then you have to arrange for sacrifice. So in the Kali-yuga the costly sacrifice is not possible. Therefore from the *śāstra* we understand, *yajñaiḥ saṅkīrtana-prāyair yajanti hi sumedhasaḥ* [[sb/11/5/32|[SB. 11.5.32] ]].
*Sumedhasaḥ,* "one who has got good brain substance." There is one word in *Bhagavad-gītā, alpa-medhasaḥ:* "poor brain substance." So we require some *sumedhasaḥ,* not *alpa-medhasaḥ. Antavat tu phalaṁ teṣāṁ tad bhavaty alpa-medhasaḥ* [[bg/7/23|[Bg. 7.23] ]]. They are making plans by their material concoction that... That is *antavat.* That will be finished. *Antavat tu phalaṁ teṣāṁ tad bhavaty alpa-medhasaḥ.*
The things are there already, especially in India. We have got everything ready, and especially this land India. It is specially meant for God realization. By the birth, one is Kṛṣṇa conscious, or God conscious. Still in these days, whenever... You have seen in Hyderabad. Although your conference was going on, still, at least five thousand men were attracted to hear me. [guest laughs] And I was speaking the dry subject of Kṛṣṇa. So India is so fortunate. They are still ready to assimilate the instruction of Kṛṣṇa. The land is so fortunate. So we must give them the chance. That is our duty. That is government's duty. That is teacher's duty. That is father's duty. That is explained in *Śrīmad-Bhāgavata. Pitā na sa syāt.* [[sb/5/5/18|[SB. 5.5.18] ]] *Guru's* duty. One who has got the chance of accepting something very easily... The guardians... The first guardian, the government; the second, the father; then the teacher; then so many, friends, relatives—that chance should be given. So Nandajī is thinking... He is an experienced...

**Prabhupāda:** > ajñāna-timirāndhasya > jñānāñjana-śalākayā > cakṣur-unmīlitaṁ yena > tasmai śrī-gurave namaḥ > [Mangalācaraṇa]
Now the time is too late. I wish to take my bath. I'll not speak very much now. When the time is fixed up for...?
**Prabhupāda:** At that time we shall speak, but this much I must express my obligation that you are worshiping the Deity so nicely. That is my great happiness, and that is your happiness also. The more gloriously you worship the Deity, decorate the Deity as gorgeously as possible, the more gorgeous you will be. That is the secret. The materialists, they are trying to dress themselves very gorgeously, and gradually their dress is being taken away by *māyā,* and voluntarily they are becoming hippies. Because they did not try to dress Kṛṣṇa, therefore *māyā* is taking their dresses. So the secret of success is that if you give nice... Everything belongs to Kṛṣṇa. Simply you have to collect them and offer for the pleasure of Kṛṣṇa. *Yat karoṣi yaj juhoṣi yad aśnāsi tapasyasi yat yad aśnāsi, kuruṣva tad mad-arpaṇam* [[bg/9/27|[Bg. 9.27] ]]. This is the secret of success, that whatever you do... It doesn't matter what you are doing. You are businessman, you are a lawyer, you are engineer or... Something must be done for earning one's livelihood. That is a fact. Without *karma,* without working, you cannot keep your body and soul together. That's a fact. So in the human form of life the motto should be that "Whatever I do, whatever I earn, it must be given to Kṛṣṇa." This is Kṛṣṇa consciousness. [microphone feedback] *Yat karoṣi yaj juhoṣi yad aśnāsi tapasyasi yat...* [[bg/9/27|[Bg. 9.27] ]].* Everyone is doing something.

All glories to the assembled devotees.
**Prabhupāda:** So we have advertised *Bhagavad-gītā,* so we can read from the Ninth Chapter or from the beginning, as you like. Which one will be nice?

**[[spoken/770419r1.bom|Morning Conversation — April 19, 1977, Bombay]]**
**Prabhupāda:** So make a subcommittee immediately, resolution, consisting myself, yourself and Gopāla Kṛṣṇa and Lokanātha Swami.
**Prabhupāda:** So by Indian birth, that is all right. Citizenship, I am also Canadian. I have got Canadian immigration. First of all I took Canada immigration. Then, from there, I took U.S. immigration. So make a subcommittee immediately. Make resolution. Now what about the Canadian, Australian, English men? They also require the same?
**Prabhupāda:** There is no excepting, only Indian. Anyway, you make these four men, subcommittee, and you take whatever land is given, given up to Kṛṣṇa. Then pick up selected person from each family and make a strong body. And then we organize Burma and Bangladesh. And he's going to Ceylon. Formerly India, Burma, Ceylon, they were one. And somebody's going to Pakistan. So there is chance of uniting all these different parts of India by Kṛṣṇa consciousness. You have to organize. At least you organize here, Manipur center, Burma and Bangladesh and Assam. It will be successful.

**Tamāla Kṛṣṇa:** No. I was thinking I could read some portion of it to you if you would like to hear it. Or I could read some other book.
[break] ...is a Bengali common word. It is said, *chobḍā niye ṭānāṭāni*. Chobḍā, that is like a coconut. Coconut pulp is within, and it is covered with a hard... What is called?
**Prabhupāda:** Yes. So these people are interested with the fiber, not with the pulp. So all these scholars of the modern education, they are *chobḍā niye ṭānāṭāni.*

**[[spoken/770419r3.bom|Room Conversation — April 19, 1977, Bombay]]**
**Prabhupāda:** What you can do when a man dies? Can you save? So similarly, everyone is being handled by the laws of nature. Nobody can do anything, just puffed up, "We can do this plan." All these political leaders, they are simply wasting time. They cannot do anything. Indira promised, *garibi hatāo.* But now he is, she is *daridra,* poverty-stricken. *Daivī hy eṣā guṇa-mayī mama māyā duratyayā* [[bg/7/14|[Bg. 7.14] ]]. These rascals, they challenging the material laws? Such a rascal? You are scientists, they are challenging. Are they not challenging?
**Prabhupāda:** What kind of rascals they are, just imagine. Just like "I shall move the mountain with my head." Such rascal. And they are going on as scientist. You have to challenge them like that, that "You are all rascals for challenging the laws of nature." But from the very beginning I called them rascals.
**Prabhupāda:** Little ABCD, and they are trying to challenge the laws of nature. Little learning dangerous. *Alpa-vidyā bhayaṅkarī.* Just like in our Society. Some of them have got little Sanskrit—they have become scholar, Sanskrit scholar. They're reading only Sanskrit. Rascal cannot read anything, and they are wasting money, four hundred, five hundred, like that, "Sanskrit Department," dozen men. You were speaking. So I have stopped it. Unnecessary. I have talked with so many foreign Sanskrit scholars. They do not know anything. Still, they are passing as Sanskrit scholar.
