# April 5 *Lectures from this day: 16 recordings* --- **[[spoken/660405bg.ny|Bg 2.49-51 — April 5, 1966, New York]]** **Prabhupāda:** Now Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa is just trying to place Arjuna in the platform of working on pure consciousness. The... We have already discussed for so many days that we are not this dull body, but we are consciousness. Now, some way or other, we are in contact with this matter. Therefore our freedom is checked. As spiritual being, we are free—free to act, free to have anything, pure, no contamination, no disease, no birth, no death, no old age, and besides that, we have got many, many other qualifications in our spiritual life. So unfortunately, because we are in contact with this matter, we are hampered in so many ways. This we should understand, and this is the opportunity. This human life is the only opportunity. If we miss this opportunity, then it may be that in our next life we may not have again this nice, civilized human form of life according to our *karma.* But one thing is sure. You'll be glad to hear that once begun, this process of spiritual realization, one is guaranteed to have next life as human being. You'll find in the *Bhagavad-gītā* that *śucīnāṁ śrīmatāṁ gehe yoga-bhraṣṭo sañjāyate* [[bg/6/41|[Bg. 6.41] ]].* You'll find in course of this discussion with Arjuna and Kṛṣṇa when Kṛṣṇa will describe about the *yoga* system, how to act it. This is also *yoga* system, *yoga-sthaḥ kuru karmāṇi.* This is *karma-yoga.* This is *karma-yoga.* So any *yoga,* either *karma-yoga* or *dhyāna-yoga* or *jñāna-yoga,* any system of *yoga,* once begun in this life, that will continue. That will continue. *Yoga-sthaḥ kuru karmāṇi.* The *Bhāgavata* says, *Śrīmad-Bhāgavata* says, --- **[[spoken/670405lc.sf|Discourse on Lord Caitanya Play — April 5-6, 1967, San Francisco]]** **Prabhupāda:** The first scene is that people passing on with *saṅkīrtana* movement as we have, as we usually do, very nice procession with *mṛdaṅga, karatāla* and that bugle, all people, just in the ordinary way. We have to make a nice procession. The second scene is that Kali, the personified Kali... A person should be decorated blackish. A blackish man with royal dress and very ugly features. And his queen, another ugly-featured girl or lady. So they are disturbed. They'll talk within themselves that "There is *saṅkīrtana* movement now, and how we shall prosecute our business of this Kali-yuga?" There will be, in that scene, in some corner somebody is drinking. Two or three persons drinking. The scene will be like that. They are sitting in the central. In one corner somebody taking part in drinking, and another part somebody is illicitly talking of lust and love with woman. In another section there is slaughtering of a cow, and another section gambling. In this way that scene should be adjusted. --- **[[spoken/710405bg.bom|Bg 7.11-13 — April 5, 1971, Bombay]]** **Prabhupāda:** > Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare > Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare. Ladies and Gentlemen, I thank you very much for your participating in this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement. So yesterday we were discussing this verse, --- **[[spoken/720405bg.mel|Bg 13.2 — April 5, 1972, Melbourne]]** **Prabhupāda:** > idaṁ śarīraṁ kaunteya > kṣetram ity abhidhīyate > etad yo vetti taṁ prāhuḥ > kṣetra-jñaḥ iti tad-vidaḥ > [[bg/13/2|[Bg. 13.2] ]] We are discussing about this body and the owner of the body. Just like this room and the occupier of the room. Because we are all occupying this room just now, it does not mean the room and we are identical. Try to understand this point. The room is matter, but we are living entities. If you simply try to understand that two things are visible: one, matter, and one, living force... It is very easy. Simply we require a little intelligence. What we are seeing in this material world? Something material and something spiritual. Material means which has no sense or which has no moving power, and spiritual means which has got sense and which has got moving power. That is the difference between material and spiritual. So if we try to understand simply our body, actually that is meditation. Meditation means to understand what is this body and what I am. If you know these things... [break] --- **[[spoken/730405ar.ny|Arrival Address — April 5, 1973, New York]]** Ladies and gentlemen, I thank you very much for kindly receiving me in this honorable way. According to our Vaiṣṇava philosophy, whatever honor is offered to the spiritual master, that is transferred to the Supreme Personality of Godhead. *Yasya prasādād bhagavat-prasādo yasyāprasādān na gatiḥ kuto 'pi.* Our this philosophy, Vaiṣṇava philosophy, it teaches that if you please your spiritual master, then God is also pleased. Because the spiritual master is the most confidential servant of God, therefore by honoring the spiritual master, the Supreme Personality of Godhead is honored. Just like in English language there is the word, "If you love me, love my dog." So the spiritual master is the "dog" of God; therefore if the spiritual master is patted, God is very much pleased. Now, so far our movement is concerned, you know, more or less, about our movement. But you should know that this is the most scientific, authorized movement in the human society, because the movement is based on the authority of *Bhagavad-gītā. Bhagavad-gītā* is spoken by the Supreme Personality of Godhead for the benefit of the whole human society. Do not take *Bhagavad-gītā* or Kṛṣṇa as something sectarian—"Hindu God," "Hindu scripture." No. It is meant for everyone. --- **[[spoken/740405bg.bom|Bg 4.16 — April 5, 1974, Bombay]]** **Translation:** "Even the intelligent are bewildered in determining what is action and what is inaction. He is the assistant editor of *The Current,* which is a weekly news magazine. **Mr. Koshi:** I have come from the material world. It is totally different from what the situation is outside. You have been in the news at the festival which was held at Bombay. I decided to try and see you. There's been a lot of curiosity as to what the movement is about. Not only here, but abroad. A lot of controversy. I would like to know how this movement started, what gave you the idea. What is the background? And why it was called the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement? Is it a return to something very fundamental? **Prabhupāda:** So I can say in English. This movement is started to give something to the whole human society about the real culture. And that is India's prerogative. India can give it. The whole world is in darkness of ignorance. So India was expected after independence to give the real knowledge. But instead of giving that real knowledge, they became victimized by their glamor of material civilization. So I wanted that such a magnificent gift from the side of India, it shall remain uncontributed to the world, let me try. This is the intention. This culture is based on *Bhagavad-gītā,* Kṛṣṇa. Therefore it is named Kṛṣṇa consciousness. In India practically every home, every person, every leader, they read *Bhagavad-gītā.* But unfortunately they do not understand even a line. Because in the beginning of the *Bhagavad-gītā* we find Kṛṣṇa says, --- **[[spoken/770405r1.bom|Morning Talk — April 5, 1977, Bombay]]** **Indian doctor:** I would like to have the history of the present complaint which is going on.
