# April 3 ## Spoken on April 3 *Lectures from this day: 6 recordings* --- **[1972: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.2.5](spoken/1972/720403sb.syd)** > So this verse I am just now quoting is the verse given by Sūta Gosvāmī, the president of the meeting. In that meeting many learned scholars, *brāhmaṇas,* they assembled to discuss about Kṛṣṇa. The question was that "After departure of Kṛṣṇa from this planet, *dharma* and *jñāna*"—*dharma* means religious principles, and *jñāna* means knowledge—"these two things, who has taken care of them?" *Dharma-jñānādibhiḥ saha.* Actually, human society should be concerned with two things: *dharma* and *jñāna. Dharma* means the characteristic. > So this is very scientific movement, *ceto-darpaṇa-mārjanam*, cleansing the heart: "What I am? What is God? What is my relationship with God? What is this material world? Why I have come here? Why I am suffering? Why I have to accept birth? Why I have to accept death? Why I have to accept disease? Why I have to accept old age?" These are the problems. These are the problems, and these problems can be solved in human form of life, not in the life of cats and dogs. They cannot. So our only request is that you make your life successful. Come to the real understanding of your existence. And this is possible simply by chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare / Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare. --- **[1974: Bhagavad-gītā 4.14](spoken/1974/740403bg.bom)** > Just like if you paint one nice rose flower, you have to apply your energy and the brush and the color very particularly, very carefully. Then still, it is not as good as the natural flower. But do you think that natural flower has come automatically? No. There is brain of Kṛṣṇa also. But the brain is so sharp, *parāsya śaktir vividhaiva śrūyate svābhāvikī,* it has come automatically. Don't think that there is no brain. There is brain, sufficient brain, but not like your brain. *Parāsya śaktir vividhaiva śrūyate.* This is Kṛṣṇa. You should try to understand Kṛṣṇa in that way. We should try to understand everything. Therefore Kṛṣṇa says that *raso 'ham apsu kaunteya prabhāsmi śaśi-sūryayoḥ*. > So if we understand Kṛṣṇa like that... Therefore Kṛṣṇa says study Kṛṣṇa. Study Kṛṣṇa. And Kṛṣṇa is describing Himself. There is no difficulty. You can study Kṛṣṇa. If you know now, "What Kṛṣṇa says is all right," simply if you know definitely, then *iti māṁ yo 'bhijānāti,* simply by knowing this, *karmabhir na sa badhyate,* he is no more under the condition of this fruitive resultant action. He is free. So why don't you do that? So nice thing. Simply study. Now how can I study? Here is Krsna's instruction, you study and you become devotee. *Man-manā bhava mad-bhakto mad-yājī māṁ namaskuru*. --- **[1974: Morning Walk](spoken/1974/740403mw.bom)** > > arjuna uvāca. > > paraṁ brahma paraṁ dhāma > > pavitraṁ paramaṁ bhavān > > puruṣaṁ śaśvataṁ divyam > > ādi-devam ajaṁ vibhum > > > > śrī bhagavān uvāca > > hanta te kathayiṣyāmi > > divyā hy ātma-vibhūtayaḥ > > prādhānyataḥ kuru-śreṣṭha > > nāsty anto vistarasya me > > [1975: Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Ādi-līlā 1.10](spoken/1975/750403cc.may)** > So the creation means that first of all the universes are created through the breathing period of Kāraṇodakaśāyī Viṣṇu. Then in each and every universe He enters as Garbhodakaśāyī Viṣṇu, and He creates... Half of the universe is filled up with water—the water came from His perspiration—and then He lies down there. Then He creates the lotus flower. And upon the lotus flower, a Brahmā is first-born. This is creation. That Brahmā means not an uncivilized human being; the most intelligent person, first creation. We cannot accept the rubbish theory of Darwin that there was no human being. That is his theory. That is not fact. He admits also that "I have made this by speculation." He has admitted. Our Dr. Svarūpa Dāmodara has quoted from his letter to a friend that he admits that he simply speculated. He has no factual knowledge. So you cannot understand the method of creation by your tiny brain's speculation. You give up this idea. This is not possible at all. You take knowledge from the *śāstra,* from the person who is perfect in knowledge. We have got knowledge. You have got knowledge. Somebody has got more knowledge than me, than you. But Kṛṣṇa says, *mattaḥ parataraṁ nānyat kiñcid asti dhanañjaya*.* You cannot find out a person who has got more knowledge than Kṛṣṇa. And God means one who has got full knowledge. > So this is the process of... *Loka-sraṣṭuḥ sūtikā-dhāma dhātuḥ. Dhātu. Dhātu* means one who creates. So Brahmā is the secondary creator. Kṛṣṇa, or Viṣṇu, He creates the situation. Then He gives him a seat, that lotus-flower like, and when he was puzzled... In the beginning, everything was dark. He could not understand "Wherefrom I am coming? What is my duty? Why I am sitting here?" When he was puzzled, then from within there was dictation that "You meditate. *Tapaḥ:* you undergo austerities. Then you'll gradually understand." So even Brahmā, the first creature of this creation, he had to meditate—"Why I am here, and what is the purpose of my coming here?" So we are also this, in the same position. We are the, I mean to say, dynasty expansion of Brahmā. Brahmā's son is Manu, or this sun-god. *Manuṣya. Manuṣya* means coming from Manu; therefore we are called *manuṣya.* So the same process: we are born ignorant, born ignorant. Human life is the chance to dissipate this ignorance, and that requires *tapasya,* not to live like cats and dogs, frivolous life. That will not help us. *Tapaḥ. Tapo divyaṁ yena putrakā śuddhyet sattva*, that human life is meant for *tapasya,* austerities, not to live extravagant life, irresponsible life, like cats and dogs. No. That is not human life. That is animal life. So therefore *śāstra* says that you undergo austerities. Then your existence will be purified, and then pure knowledge you will get, and you will understand what is your position, why you are in this material world, why you are suffering the threefold miseries, why you are obliged to die, why you are obliged to become old man. So many things you have to learn. But if we learn like cats and dogs, then we spoil our life. --- **[1975: Morning Walk](spoken/1975/750403mw.may)** > "The whole worldly affair is going on because I am there." *Viṣṭabhya:* "I have entered into it." Don't you read in the *Bhagavad-gītā?* Then? And we are reading that portion, how Kāraṇodakaśāyī Viṣṇu enters in the each universe. He's... Then He expands Himself as Kśīrodakaśāyī Viṣṇu. We are explaining that. Kṛṣṇa says in *Bhagavad-gītā, viṣṭabhya. Viṣṭabhya* means "entering." --- **[1976: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 7.9.48](spoken/1976/760403sb.vrn)** > Therefore Kṛṣṇa says, *avajānanti māṁ mūḍhā mānuṣīṁ tanum āśritaḥ*. When Kṛṣṇa comes just like ordinary human being and keeps with the Pāṇḍavas, people take Him as ordinary human being. That is *mūḍha. Avajānanti māṁ mūḍhāḥ.* In everything there is Kṛṣṇa. Simply we have to purify our vision to see Kṛṣṇa in every atom, everywhere, whatever we... That is the highest perfection of Kṛṣṇa consciousness, and it is described in the *Caitanya-caritāmṛta, sthāvara-jaṅgama dekhe nā dekhe tāra mūrti, sarvatra sphūraya tāra iṣṭa deva mūrti*. When one is fully advanced in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, he sees this world... The world is full of *sthāvara-jaṅgama.* Some things, some articles, are moving; some articles are not moving. Just like tree—it is not moving, but an animal is moving. This is *sthāvara-jaṅgama.* So he is seeing the tree or the animals or the hill or the water or the river or the ground. So because he is advanced in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, he sees nothing but Kṛṣṇa everywhere. *Sthāvara-jaṅgama dekhe nā dekhe tāra mūrti.* He does not see anything else except Kṛṣṇa. And actually that is the fact. Simply we have to purify our eyes, then we can see in everything. He is in the atom even. *Aṇḍāntara-sthaṁ paramāṇu-cayāntara-stham.* But because we are not qualified, therefore we cannot see. One who is qualified, he can see. There is no question of seeing Kṛṣṇa in a particular place. > The other day in Delhi, somebody questioned that "If God is everywhere, what is the use of going to the temple to see Him?" Just see how contradictory it is. If God is everywhere, why He is not in the temple? But these foolish persons, they do not know what he is questioning. Kṛṣṇa is everywhere. Just like the electricity is everywhere, but when you catch the switch, then it is under your control. Electricity is everywhere, but still, by arrangement we can touch the electricity or take it into service by preparing electric wiring and switch. Similarly, Kṛṣṇa is everywhere, and you can worship Kṛṣṇa from anything. Everyone knows that this Deity is made of stone. The ground floor, the marble stone, black and white, and the Deity is also black and white. Everyone knows. But why you see the black and white Deity in this temple and gather together and offer prayer? Is it the same marble of the ground, black and white? That means you are seeing in a different position. That is love, love of Kṛṣṇa. Those who haven't got the love, they are seeing that "The same stone on the floor and same stone in the Deity. What these foolish men are worshiping?" They say that "I can worship this stone also." No, no. Kṛṣṇa says, "Yes, that is... The stone on the floor, that is also I am, but I am not present there." This is called *acintya-bhedābheda.* "Yes, stone I am also, but I am not there at the same time." --- ## Letters on April 3 *Letters from this day: 15* --- **[1967: Letter to Mr. Fulton](letters/1967/670403_mr._fulton)** > Mr. Alan Kallman of Pixi Records is my well wisher friend and it is very kind of him that he has desired to push my cause through your valuable endeavour. --- **[1968: Letter to Satsvarupa](letters/1968/680403_satsvarupa)** > One thing you may inform all devotees that Maya cannot touch a pure devotee: When you find a devotee is supposed in difficulty it is not the work of Maya but it is the work of the Lord by His Personal internal energy.
