# April 2 *Lectures from this day: 11 recordings* --- **[[spoken/680402le.sf|Lecture — April 2, 1968, San Francisco]]** **Prabhupāda:** ...consciousness movement was started five hundred years before, by Lord Caitanya. This is not a new movement. Practically, it is as old as the creation of this world, but as things change in course of time, so it required rejuvenation. So this movement was rejuvenated about five hundred years ago. Before that, Lord Kṛṣṇa... You might have heard His name. Most of you have read *Bhagavad-gītā,* the famous philosophical doctrine of Indian *Vedānta* philosophy. Lord Kṛṣṇa instructed *Bhagavad-gītā* in the Battlefield of Kurukṣetra five thousand years ago. This Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement means the last instruction of the *Bhagavad-gītā.* In the *Bhagavad-gītā* we find everything complete so far God consciousness is required. The first and foremost qualification to understand the science of God, or to become Kṛṣṇa conscious, is to understand yourself. The first thing is what you are or what I am. In the Battlefield of Kurukṣetra this perplexed question was there before Arjuna. --- **[[spoken/720402le.syd|Lecture [partially recorded] — April 2, 1972, Sydney]]** **Prabhupāda:** So if one becomes a Vaiṣṇava under the principles of Caitanya Mahāprabhu, he can be lifted at once from any abominable condition, *śvapacaṁ variṣṭham* [[sb/7/9/10|[SB. 7.9.10] ]]. Just like *śvapacam,* the dog-eater, he becomes *variṣṭham,* better than a *brāhmaṇa.* Because why? Because he is a devotee. So unless one becomes devotee, one has to follow this *varṇāśrama-dharma.* This is the idea. Caitanya Mahāprabhu is speaking from the devotional platform. He did not say when He was actually acting as a *brāhmaṇa* in Navadvīpa. But when He realized... He is realized always, but as *ācārya,* He says that when one becomes Vaiṣṇava, *gopī-bhartuḥ...* What is the quali... *Gopī-bhartuḥ pada-kamalayor dāsa-dāsānudāsaḥ* [[cc/madhya/13/80|[Cc. Madhya 13.80] ]]. He says, "I am not a *brāhmaṇa.*" Then the next question is, "What You are?" He says, *gopī-bhartuḥ pada-kamalayor dāsa-dāsānudāsaḥ:* "I am the servant of the servant of the servant of Kṛṣṇa." --- **[[spoken/720402mu.syd|Hari Hari Biphale — April 2, 1972, Sydney]]** **Prabhupāda:** > hari hari! bifale janama goṅāinu > manuṣya-janama pāiyā, rādhā-kṛṣṇa nā bhajiyā, > jāniyā śuniyā biṣa khāinu --- **[[spoken/720402r1.syd|Room Conversation — April 2, 1972, Sydney]]** **Prabhupāda:** That's a fact. Today the superior training and intelligence. No so-called gentleman will hear. [indistinct] attention continually. Nobody will hear. They come and hear, they go on. But they were hearing very seriously. Was it not? **Prabhupāda:** Questions were intelligent. So all these frustrated boys and girls in the Western world, they are all good candidate. You have to organize to give them; they are searching after. **Prabhupāda:** Yes. Love. That I explained—love. We have got our love in store. But instead of loving Kṛṣṇa, we have distributed the love in so many ways, and frustrated. Love is there in store. That is reserved for Kṛṣṇa. And we are trying to love Kṛṣṇa, that I explained. --- **[[spoken/740402bg.bom|Bg 4.13 — April 2, 1974, Bombay]]** **Translation:** "According to the three modes of material nature and the work ascribed to them, the four divisions of human society were created by Me. And although I am the creator of this system, you should know that I am yet the non-doer, being unchangeable." **Prabhupāda:** > cātur-varṇyaṁ mayā sṛṣṭaṁ > guṇa-karma-vibhāgaśaḥ > tasya kartāram api māṁ > viddhy akartāram avyayam > [[bg/4/13|[Bg. 4.13] ]] --- **[[spoken/740402mw.bom|Morning Walk — April 2, 1974, Bombay]]** **Chandobhai:** > idaṁ tu te guhya-tamaṁ > pravakṣyāmy anasūyave > jñānaṁ vijñāna-sahitaṁ > yaj jñātvā mokṣyase 'śubhāt > [[bg/9/1|[Bg. 9.1] ]] **Prabhupāda:** No. One who is not envious. A person generally... All conditioned souls, they are envious of God. Envious. "Why He should be God? I am God. I am God." So Arjuna is not like that type of. Therefore he is speaking to Arjuna. He is devotee. In the Fourth Chapter also, He said, *bhakto 'si priyo 'si* [[bg/4/3|[Bg. 4.3] ]]. Therefore Kṛṣṇa does not expose Himself unless one is devotee. This is first qualification. So to understand *Bhagavad-gītā* one must be a devotee. The so-called *jñānī,* *yogī*, they cannot understand. It is not possible, because they are trying to become God. Although it is simply dream, they can never become, but they are envious, that "Why Kṛṣṇa should be God? I have got so many gods." *Anasūyave.* **Prabhupāda:** Yes. And the *bhakti-yoga...* This is *bhakti-yoga.* Therefore it is *rāja-vidya;* when all kinds of learning, it is the king of. --- **[[spoken/750402cc.may|Cc. And towards the end, one Bengali Vaiṣṇava *brāhmaṇa* washed the feet of Caitanya Mahāprabhu, and He became a little angry, outwardly angry, and unhappy within. And in one purport you mention that the spiritual master should not be offered obeisances or have his feet washed before the Deity. But the impression of most of the devotees has been that in the presence of the spiritual master one can stop worshiping the Deity and offer obeisances to the spiritual master. So I was wondering which is correct. **Puṣṭa Kṛṣṇa:** I mean, it's obvious if it was detrimental to our devotional service, then Prabhupāda would correct us. --- **[[spoken/760402sb.vrn|SB 7.9.47 — April 2, 1976, Vṛndāvana]]** 760402SB-Vrindavan* [26:11 Minutes] æPae wMae SadSaTaq Tav vedSa\*íe bqJaax(ku-raivv Na caNYadæPak-SYa ) Anantarām Śāstrījī**: [chants *slokas*, devotees repeat] > vṛndāvane ramaṇe-reti-prasiddha-bhūmau > atraiva kṛṣṇa-balarāma supāda-mūle > jñānaṁ paraṁ parama-puruṣa bhakti yuktam > dātre sadaiva prabhupāda namo namas te **[chants verse; Prabhupāda and devotees respond] [break] > rūpe ime sad-asatī tava veda-sṛṣṭe > bījāṅkurāv iva na cānyad arūpakasya > yuktāḥ samakṣam ubhayatra vicakṣate tvāṁ > yogena vahnim iva dāruṣu nānyataḥ syāt > [[sb/7/9/47|[SB. 7.9.47] ]] --- **[[spoken/770402r1.bom|Room Conversation — April 2, 1977, Bombay]]** **Tamāla Kṛṣṇa:** So your answer to his question, "Do you consider the message of Jesus Christ to be universal?"
