## Spoken on March 31
*Lectures from this day: 11 recordings*
---
**[1967: Bhagavad-gītā 10.8 [Partial Recording](spoken/1967/670331bg.ny)**
> Kṛṣṇa says, *api cet su-durācāraḥ.* Even though you find in some devotees some bad behavior, not standard, but because he is a devotee, he is constantly engaged in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, therefore he is *sādhu.* Even though he has got some bad habits due to his past life, it doesn't matter, because this will stop. Because he has taken to Kṛṣṇa consciousness, all nonsense habit will stop. The switch is off. As soon as one comes to Kṛṣṇa, the switch which impelled one to bad habits, that becomes off immediately.
> It is not difficult. The most easiest process of transcendental realization. And by following this process, just see our students, how they have advanced—in very quickly, within short time. You bring any so-called followers of *yoga* society student and try to compare with any one of our student, you'll find he is far, far advanced. We challenge. [laughter] Why? Due to the *sādhu-saṅga. Sādhu-saṅga.* So *ādau śraddhā tataḥ sādhu-saṅga*.
---
**[1969: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 7.6.9–17](spoken/1969/690331sb.sf)**
> The whole world is attached with one another on the basis of sex. So the sex attraction increases as we increase our products of sex. *Gṛha-kṣetra-sutāpta-vittaiḥ*. The products of sex... The first combination is with wife, and then we want some apartment or place to live together; then produce children; then we want society; then we want money, wealth. In this way go on increasing, the real purpose of life is forgotten.
> So unless you promote yourself to the platform of spiritual understanding, there cannot be any good qualification. Therefore *harāv abhaktasya kuto mahad-guṇā*. One who is not in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, he cannot have any good qualification, because his field of activities is on the mental plane. As it is stated in the previous verse, being situated on the mental plane, even a learned man, I mean to say, transgresses the limits of law. There are so many.

**[1971: Paṇḍāl Lecture](spoken/1971/710331le.bom)**
> But actually we are misled by the so-called blind leaders. They have no vision what is the actual goal of life. Not only in a particular country; everywhere the same mischief is going on. Therefore, as a blind man, if he leads other blind men, there will be catastrophe, similarly, because we are led by blind men, the whole world is in catastrophe. Nobody is in peace. Everyone is unsatisfied in spite of so much material education, advancement of material education, because the missing point is Viṣṇu. *Na te viduḥ svārtha-gatiṁ hi viṣṇum*.
> In the Ninth Chapter, when Kṛṣṇa says, *man-manā bhava mad-bhakto mad-yājī māṁ namaskuru*, one great commentator, very erudite scholar, he says, "It is not to Kṛṣṇa; it is to the unborn principle which is within Kṛṣṇa." But he does not know what is Kṛṣṇa, and he has the audacity to comment on the *Bhagavad-gītā.* Kṛṣṇa is not different from within and without. Kṛṣṇa, being absolute, there is no such difference. As we have got difference, I, the spirit soul, is different from my body, but Kṛṣṇa is not like that. There is no such difference that Kṛṣṇa's soul and Kṛṣṇa's body. Kṛṣṇa is complete whole, *pūrṇa.* There is no such difference. The person who does not know what is Kṛṣṇa, if he tries to comment upon the transcendental knowledge imparted by Kṛṣṇa, that is simply impudent.
---
**[1974: Bhagavad-gītā 4.11](spoken/1974/740331bg.bom)**
> So you have to approach Kṛṣṇa through these different types of philosophy. They are partial realization. Just like Brahman realization means eternity realization, Paramātmā realization means eternity and knowledge, and Bhagavān realization means eternity, knowledge and blissfulness. *Sac-cid-ānanda. Īśvaraḥ paramaḥ kṛṣṇaḥ sac-cid-ānanda-vigrahaḥ* [Bs. 5.1].* If you realize Kṛṣṇa, then you realize simultaneously... *Yasmin vijñāte sarvam idaṁ vijñātaṁ bhavati* [*Muṇḍaka Upaniṣad* 1.3]. You realize Brahman, you realize Paramātmā and you realize Bhagavān. That is our duty. Therefore Kṛṣṇa says, *bahūnāṁ janmanām ante jñānavān māṁ prapadyate*. Because ultimately Kṛṣṇa. *Ahaṁ sarvasya prabhavo mattaḥ sarvaṁ pravartate, ahaṁ sarvasya...*.
> And Kṛṣṇa says... *Vedānta* says also, *janmādy asya yataḥ.* Brahman, Paramātmā, they are expansion of Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa is the original. *Mattaḥ parataraṁ nānyat kiñcid asti dhanañjaya*. This is the truth. Therefore Kṛṣṇa says that either you follow the Brahman path or Paramātmā path, either as a *jñānī* or *yogī* or as a *bhakta...* Therefore Kṛṣṇa says, *mama vartmānuvartante manuṣyāḥ pārtha.* Anyone actually who is seeking after self-realization, there are three divisions. Either you have to realize as impersonal Brahman or as localized Paramātmā or as the Supreme Personality of Godhead. But if you realize the Supreme Personality of Godhead, then automatically you realize impersonal Brahman and Paramātmā also. Just like if you have got one *crore* of rupees, then one hundred rupees, ten rupees or one thousand rupees or one *lakh* of rupees, they're all included, similarly, if you realize Kṛṣṇa... Therefore Kṛṣṇa says, *bahūnāṁ janmanām ante jñānavān māṁ prapadyate*, that everyone is trying to realize the Absolute Truth. Either in the shape of Brahman or Paramātmā or nullifying these material varieties, *śūnyavāda,* they are trying to approach Kṛṣṇa. So Kṛṣṇa is so kind that He's giving direct opportunity, direct opportunity, that "You can surrender unto Me, and I'll take charge of you." *Sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja, ahaṁ tvāṁ sarva-pāpebhyo mokṣayiṣyāmi*.
---
**[1974: Morning Walk](spoken/1974/740331mw.bom)**
> "I am the taste of the water." *Prabhāsmi śaśi-sūryayoḥ.* So you see the sunshine. This is Kṛṣṇa. The moonshine is Kṛṣṇa. First of all try to see Kṛṣṇa in... Just like there are two kinds of snakes. One snake is poisonless, and another snake is poisonous. So before catching the poisonous snake, you practice to catch the non-poisonous snake. Then gradually you'll be able. Similarly, Kṛṣṇa is everywhere, and this is the process to see Kṛṣṇa. That is a fact. When Kṛṣṇa says, "I am the taste of the water," that is a fact. So you see this Kṛṣṇa. Then you will, one day, you will realize the Supreme Kṛṣṇa. There is no difference between this Kṛṣṇa and that Kṛṣṇa. This is the process [break]...learn something, you should accept the process. If you don't accept the process, how you can learn? [break]
> That's all. *Āmāra ajñaya...* Caitanya Mahāprabhu says... Dr. Patel, hear. Kṛṣṇa says..., Caitanya Mahāprabhu says that *āmāra ājñāya guru hañā tāra' ei deśa* : "You become a *guru.*" Just see. "You become a *guru* by My order." Then one may say that "What qualification I have got that I can become *guru*?" That only qualification: *yāre dekha, tāre kaha 'kṛṣṇa' upadeśa.* You don't require to manufacture any *upadeśa.* Whatever is there already spoken by Kṛṣṇa, you distribute it. You become *guru.* This is *guru.* Not that you are fool. Yes, I am fool. But I am not so fool like you that I adulterate.
---
**[1975: Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Ādi-līlā 1.7](spoken/1975/750331cc.may)**
> Yogīs,* there are many *yogīs,* but the *bhakti-yogi* is the best because by *bhakta-yoga* only you can approach the Supreme Personality of... There is no other way. *Jñāna, karma* and *haṭha-yoga,* they can help little, but they are not competent to approach the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Kṛṣṇa says in the *Bhagavad-gītā, bhaktyā mām abhijānāti*.* If you want to know Kṛṣṇa, then *karma, yoga, jñāna,* these, although they can elevate you to some extent, but you cannot approach the Supreme Personality of Godhead by *karma, jñāna,yoga.* If you want to know Kṛṣṇa as He is, then you have to accept the path of *bhakti-yoga.* Kṛṣṇa says personally, *bhaktyā mām abhijānāti yāvān yaś cāsmi tattvataḥ.* And in order to attain this perfection of *bhakti-yoga,* you require strength from Balarāma, Saṅkarṣaṇa.
> So Kavirāja Gosvāmī, after offering his respectful obeisances to Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu and describing the purpose of His incarnation, he is now trying to describe Nityānanda. *Śrī-kṛṣṇa-caitanya prabhu-nityānanda.* Pañca-tattva, one after another... First of all Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, then Nityānanda Prabhu, then Advaita Prabhu, then Gadādhara, and then *śrīvāsādi-gaura-bhakta-vṛnda.* He is summarizing the obeisances to the Pañca-tattva. Now, what is the identification of Nityānandākhya-Rāma? Rāma, Balarāma, and Baladeva, Saṅkarṣaṇa—there are so many names of Śrī Baladeva. In the *Upaniṣad* it is said, *nāyam ātmā bala-hīnena labhyo* [*Muṇḍaka Upaniṣad* 3.2.4]: "Self-realization is not possible without being strengthened by the mercy of Balarāma." Sometimes they take it foolishly, that "Without being very strong bodily, nobody can realize self." But that is not the fact. *Nāyam ātmā pravacanena labhya na medhayā na bahunā śrutena* [*Muṇḍaka Upaniṣad* 3.2.3]. This is the Vedic injunction. That *bala-hīnena* means without being favored by Nityānanda Prabhu, Balarāma.

**[1976: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 7.5.23–24](spoken/1976/760331sb.vrn)**
> Everyone is being educated how to live comfortably with reference to the comforts of the body. This is not education. Real education is to understand oneself, self-realization, and with that purpose one should make progress in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, that beginning with *śravaṇam.* As we are hearing, without *śravaṇa* there is no beginning of spiritual education. *Satāṁ prasaṅgān mama vīrya-saṁvidaḥ.* That *śravaṇa,* hearing also, should be accepted from devotee, from real devotee. Śrī Svarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī recommended that a *brāhmaṇa,* he wrote something about Caitanya Mahāprabhu, and there were so many discrepancies. So Svarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī was not at all satisfied with such writings. He chastised the *brāhmaṇa,* that "You cannot write." So unless one is self-realized, there is practically no use writing about Kṛṣṇa. This transcendental writing does not depend on material education; it depends on the spiritual realization. You'll find, therefore, in the comments of *Bhāgavatam* by different *ācāryas,* even there are some discrepancies, they are accepted as *ārṣa-prayoga*. It should remain as it is.
> You should hear from Vaiṣṇava, at least one who is trying to become Vaiṣṇava, not professional man. *Bhaktiḥ pareśānubhavo viraktir anyatra syāt*.* So the test of advancement in Kṛṣṇa consciousness is that one should be detestful, lose attachment to the material things. Therefore Prahlāda Mahārāja did not like the material education from Śaṇḍa and Amarka. He very plainly said to his father that "What I have heard from my spiritual master, Nārada Muni..." Spiritual master means Nārada Muni or his representative. Therefore we should follow the *Nārada Pañcarātra* instructions, *sarvopādhi-vinirmuktaṁ tat-paratvena nirmalam*.

**[1977: Room Conversation [Partially Recorded](spoken/1977/770331r2.bom)**
> ...and bangle, and *tink-tink-tink.* Then he took away another bangle, again *tink-tink-tink.* Another bangle, again *tink-tink-tink.* When there was only one, there was no *tink-tink-tink.
---
**[1977: Room Conversation with Scientists, Svarūpa Dāmodara and Dr. Sharma](spoken/1977/770331r3.bom)**
> "I am. Here I am. I am the seed-giving father." Finished. We take it. So we are in full knowledge. What is the difficulty for us? There is father. You can say another or this or that, whatever way you can say. There is father. You do not know? Here, the father says, *ahaṁ bīja-pradaḥ pitā:* "Yes, I am father." We believe in Kṛṣṇa, our knowledge is perfect. You rascal, you do not believe, do not know. Then you hover in the darkness forever and remain a rascal and declare yourself a scientist. Rascal, declaring as scientist.
> Four-wheeled dogs. That's all. That is advancement. The dog is running with four legs, and he is running with four wheels, "ghar-ghar-ghar-ghar-ghar-ghar." Where you are going? And this is their scientific advancement—competition with dog. Otherwise what they have done? The anthill, and four-legged wheel. That's all. Four-wheel legs. This is animal civilization. Without knowing the aim of life, living in big, big skyscraper building, "Anthill." And running like dog with four wheel car, Mercedes. This is dog civilization. It is not human civilization. Human civilization begins when they take Kṛṣṇa's instructions: *cātur-varṇyaṁ mayā sṛṣṭaṁ guṇa-karma-vibhāgaśaḥ*.
