## Spoken on March 29
*Lectures from this day: 10 recordings*

**[1967: Lecture [Partial Recording](spoken/1967/670329le.sf)**
> So we should be very responsible. So we are not responsible. Kṛṣṇa says, "They are not responsible." Therefore, *manuṣyāṇāṁ sahasreṣu .* Out of many thousands of people, a person desires to utilize his human form of life very nicely. *Manuṣyāṇāṁ sahasreṣu kaścid yatati siddhaye. Kaścin* means somebody tries to make his life perfect. And *yatatām api siddhānām .*
> And among such millions of persons who are trying to make his perfect, one can understand Kṛṣṇa. So Kṛṣṇa is not easy that to understand. But He is so kind that He is explaining Himself. One who takes this explanation of Kṛṣṇa and understands Him, he becomes perfect.
---
**[1967: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.2.17](spoken/1967/670329sb.sf)**
> In the *Bhagavad-gītā* you'll find... That is our *brahma-bhūta* situation. The *Vedas* teaches us that "You are not this matter. You are Brahman." *Ahaṁ brahmāsmi.* Lord Śaṅkarācārya, he preached this gospel to the world that we are not this matter; we are Brahman, spirit soul. So that, when that spiritual realization will be actually done, then your symptoms will change. What are those symptoms? Now, *brahma-bhūtaḥ prasannātmā na śocati na kāṅkṣati* : "When one is situated in his own spiritual consciousness, then he will have no hankering and no lamentation, lamentation for loss or hankering for gain."
> Antavanta ime dehā nityasyoktāḥ śarīriṇaḥ*.* We have already described that this body, this body is *antavat:* it has got end. But the consciousness, or the spirit soul, it is not... It is endless. So the endless, I mean to say, ever-existing soul, being contaminated by this body, he's full of anxiety. So Prahlāda Mahārāja thinks that in order to realize his self for self-realization, if he gives up all material engagement and takes to the path of self-realization, that is the best way of his life.

**[1971: Bhagavad-gītā 7.3 Paṇḍāl Wedding and Initiations at Cross Maidan](spoken/1971/710329bg.bom)**
> Therefore Kṛṣṇa says *manuṣyāṇāṁ sahasreṣu , *means not ordinary men. Those who are situated in this *daiva-varṇāśrama,* qualified *brāhmaṇa, kṣatriya, vaiśya, śūdra...* And we should note also that this division of *brāhmaṇa, kṣatriya, vaiśya* and *śūdra* is not that to make artificial competition and to become puffed-up with pride, that "I am *brāhmaṇa.* You are *śūdra.*" No. It is a cooperation. Just like you have got cooperative society, similarly, these four divisions of social orders are cooperative society.
> So Kṛṣṇa says that out of many thousands of human beings, species of 400,000's of species..., *manuṣyāṇāṁ sahasreṣu kaścid yatati siddhaye .* They come to the principle of this Vedic system of *varṇāśrama-dharma.* That is the process of *siddhi.* Without coming to this process of *varṇa* and *āśrama, cātur-varṇyam,* the human life is animal life, or less than animal life. That is not accepted as human society. Therefore it is necessary that all over the world this *varṇāśrama-dharma,* according to *Bhagavad-gītā,* must be established.
---
**[1972: Bhagavad-gītā 7.1 in Hindi](spoken/1972/720329bg.bom)**
> That is why Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Lord says that among millions of people there is one who thinks about attaining perfection of life. Almost, no one is interested in perfection of self-realization. *Manuṣyāṇāṁ sahasreṣu kaścid yatati siddhaye*, and this *siddhi* means perfection of life. What kind of perfection? Perfection means realizing the knowledge perfectly nobody is interested. mea what I am? What God is? Such are the components of self-realization. Is realized In the *Brahma sutras* it has been termed as *brahma jijñāsā*. The only business in the human form of life is how to attain self-realization *brahma jijñāsā*: *athāto brahma jijñāsā*, in the *Śrīmad Bhāgavatam* it has been said *jijñāsuḥ śreya uttamam*. Those who are inquisitive about the topmost subject matter he should approach a spiritual master. *tasmād guruṁ prapadyeta* in the Vedas also it has been said, *tasmād guruṁ prapadyeta*... *Tad vijñānārthaṁ sa gurum evābhigacchet*: [MU 1.2.12].
> So, first let us consider that what is the benefit of chanting this Hare Kṛṣṇa? Yes, these material senses that we have, we cannot use them to understand the name and form of the Supreme Lord. Therefore, Kṛṣṇa says that all the knowledge that you have pertaining to cement and stones, let's start with that. Looking behind the name of God, that is why Kṛṣṇa says *bhūmir āpo 'nalo vāyuḥ*. Kṛṣṇa says that when you look around all that you see is bricks, stones, water, sand and air. So, Kṛṣṇa says that bhumir soil, *āpo* water, analo fire and vāyu air kham sky, then mind, intelligence and ego all these eight things *ahaṅkāra itīyaṁ me bhinnā prakṛtir aṣṭadhā*.

**[1974: Bhagavad-gītā 4.9](spoken/1974/740329bg.bom)**
> And they believe in the next birth, next life, past life. They believe in God, in Kṛṣṇa. They're satisfied with that position. But the modern leaders, they do not like it. They want to make them intoxicated so that they can work like an ass for the morsel of food. But this is not the problem. Real problem is here, stated, that you should stop the disease of birth and death. That is real problem. *Tyaktvā dehaṁ punar janma*. The human life is meant for making a solution of the repetition of birth and death. That is real problem. *Janma-mṛtyu-jarā-vyādhi-duḥkha-doṣānudarśanam*.
> But according to Vedic civilization, *sukham ātyantikaṁ yat tad atīndriyam grāhyam*. What is the actual happiness, that is beyond your senses. Not sense gratification. But because we are materially absorbed, we think *indriyāṇi parāṇy āhur*. Indriya,* the senses, all in all. To satisfy the senses, that is *sukha,* that is happiness. And those who are a little disgusted with sense gratification, *indriyāṇi parāṇy āhur indriyebhyaḥ paraṁ manaḥ*. They are mental speculators. They write poetries and utopian theories, "This philosophy, that philosophy." In this way they satisfy the mind. But that is also not happiness. Mental happiness. *Mano-rathena asato dhāvato bahiḥ.* If you become satisfied by mental happiness, then you'll have to come down again. *Asato. Asato mā sad-gamaḥ.* Real life is: "Don't stay in this temporary world, but go to the real world," *paras tasmāt tu bhāvo 'nyo 'vyakto 'vyaktāt sanātanaḥ*. You'll find all these things in *Bhagavad-gītā.* So either on the bodily plane or on the mental plane you cannot be happy. That is not possible. But if you want to be happy, then you have to come to the spiritual platform and engage in spiritual activities, *sukham ātyantikaṁ yat tad atīndriyam grāhyam*. Atīndriya* means above the material platform of sensual and mental activities.

**[1974: Morning Walk](spoken/1974/740329mw.bom)**
> Because they've taken to this asuric principle, they do not surrender. This is the disease, material disease. Here is Kṛṣṇa, the perfect leader, and they're going this side, that leader, that leader, that leader. Why? The perfect leader is there. His instruction is there, in all fields of life, any field of life, and ultimately spiritual realization. But they will not take. They'll not take.

**[1975: Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Ādi-līlā 1.5](spoken/1975/750329cc.may)**
> Therefore Kavirāja Gosvāmī explains that "This is not ordinary thing. This is the transformation of the *ahlādinī śakti.*" *Samvit, sandhinī, ahlādinī.* The Supreme Lord has got three potencies, or energies, primarily. So this *rādhā-kṛṣṇa-praṇaya-vikṛtiḥ* is transformation of the pleasure potency. Kṛṣṇa is described in the *Bhagavad-gītā, paraṁ brahma. Paraṁ brahma. Paraṁ brahma paraṁ dhāma pavitraṁ paramaṁ bhavān*. That is the explanation given by Arjuna. This is called *paramparā* system. If we follow Arjuna, Arjuna's decision should be taken. Arjuna decision is: "Kṛṣṇa is *paraṁ brahma.*" So the Māyāvādī philosophers, they are after *brahma-sukha. Brahma-sukhānubhūtyā. Brahma-sukhānubhūtyā.* The source of *brahma-sukha* is Kṛṣṇa, but they cannot reach up to that point.
> Here Śukadeva Gosvāmī says, "Here is the Para-brahman." When he is describing Kṛṣṇa's pastimes with the cowherd boys, so Śukadeva Gosvāmī says, "These cowherd boys are playing with the Supreme Person who is the source of *brahma-sukha.*" *Itthaṁ brahma-sukhānubhūtyā.* And for the devotees... There are two kinds of transcendentalist: one Brahmavādi, and other, Vaiṣṇava. A Vaiṣṇava takes this philosophy that we are servant. *Jīvera svarūpa haya nitya kṛṣṇa dāsa*. And the Māyāvādī philosophers, they imperfectly think that they have become one with the Supreme; they have become Nārāyaṇa. That is a misleading philosophy. We should not accept that.

**[1975: Lecture after Manipur Dancing](spoken/1975/750329le.may)**
> Kṛṣṇa's real identification means *ānanda-cinmaya-rasa-pratibhāvitābhiḥ.* He is *ānanda, sac-cid-ānanda-vigraha* [Bs. 5.1],* and His expansion of *ānanda* are these *gopīs, ānanda-cinmaya.* But that is not this material thing. *Ānanda-cinmaya-rasa,* that mellow, that taste, that humor, that is completely spiritual. We should not misunderstand this *līlā,* or pastimes of Kṛṣṇa with the *gopīs,* that material lusty affairs. Then we'll be misled. It is said in the *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam* that *vikrīḍitaṁ vraja-vadhūbhir idaṁ ca viṣṇoḥ.* The activities of the Vraja-vadhu, the damsels of Vṛndāvana, *vikrīḍitam,* activities, *vikrīḍitaṁ vraja-vadhūbhir idaṁ ca viṣṇoḥ śraddhānvito 'nuśṛṇuyād atha varṇayed yaḥ, bhaktiṁ parāṁ pratilabhya hṛd-roga-kāma apahinoti*.Our material existence is due to our lusty desires in the heart. That is *hṛd-rogam.* That is our heart disease. And we are suffering in this material world for this heart disease life after life. People have lost their intelligence that they cannot understand that there is life after death. That is explained in the *Bhagavad-gītā: tathā dehāntara-prāptiḥ*.
> You must understand Kṛṣṇa in truth, in fact. So Kṛṣṇa comes Himself to teach you, to show you what does He do in His Goloka Vṛndāvana. And if we are fortunate enough, be attracted with the Kṛṣṇa's pastimes, and if we constantly think of it, *satataṁ kīrtayanto māṁ yatantaś ca dṛḍha-vratāḥ*, then your life will be perfect. That is the aim and purpose of Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement. We want to give to the human society the highest blessings, the most perfectional platform of life.
---
**[1977: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 5.5.3–4](spoken/1977/770329sb.bom)**
> Kṛṣṇa says personally. He comes, *yadā yadā hi dharmasya glānir bhavati bhārata, tadātmānaṁ sṛjāmy aham*, for the benefit of the human society. Because *dharmasya glānir. Dharma* is meant for the human society. *Dharma* is not meant for the cats and dogs. They have no *dharma.* You cannot have any religious principle or institution in the cat society or dog society. *Dharmeṇa hīnāḥ paśubhiḥ samānāḥ* [*Hitopadeśa*]. Therefore when human society becomes devoid of *dharma,* then it is animal society. It is no longer human society.
> What Kṛṣṇa says, that is not at all difficult. Even a child can perform. What Kṛṣṇa said? *Man-manā bhava mad-bhakto mad-yājī māṁ namaskuru*. Very simple thing. Kṛṣṇa says, "Always think of Me." What is the difficulty? Even a child can think of Kṛṣṇa. If he goes to the temple and if he understands from his parents that "Here is the Deity, Kṛṣṇa," it impresses. He understands, "Here is Kṛṣṇa," because he is simple. So he can also think of Kṛṣṇa: "I went to the temple. I saw Kṛṣṇa very nicely dressed, very nicely decorated. Very nice foodstuff was offered, and I got the *prasādam.*" Where is the difficulty? *Man-manā bhava mad-bhakto.* And if you go regularly to see Kṛṣṇa in the temple and to remember Him, then you become a *bhakta.* It doesn't require that you have to pass M.A. examination to become a *bhakta,* or you have to become a very learned scholar. But because that is the end of knowledge. *Vedaiś ca sarvair aham eva vedyam*. If you simply understand Kṛṣṇa, your all Vedic knowledge is perfect. *Ārādhito yadi haris tapasā tataḥ kim [Nārada Pañcarātra].* If you have understood Hari, Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, *tapasā tataḥ kim,* then where is the necessity of *tapasya*? You have achieved the result of *tapasya.* Because to understand Kṛṣṇa is not so easy.
