The *saṅkīrtana* just now we have performed, it is vibration of the transcendental sound. This will help us in clearing the dust which we have accumulated on the surface of our mind. The whole thing is misunderstanding. We, as pure soul, pure consciousness, naturally we are aloof from material contamination. But due to our long association with this material atmosphere, we have accumulated a great, thick layer of dust on the mind. So as soon as the dust is cleared off, then we can see ourself, what we are.
So we are discussing for the last few days on the constitutional position of ourself, myself, yourself—the soul, pure soul. Now, we have discussed that this pure soul is distinct from this material body. And we can understand this constitution of the soul by the presence of consciousness. The Lord says, Kṛṣṇa says, that *avināśi tu tad viddhi yena sarvam idaṁ tatam* [[bg/2/17|[Bg. 2.17] ]]. You can understand what you are. You are present all over your body. You are present all over your body. Wherever you can try by pinching your body, you will feel some pain, this, this part of this body or this part of this body. And this pain feeling will be stopped as soon as the consciousness is taken away from this body. Dead body, where there is no consciousness, the dead body does not feel even he is chopped up by some chopper, because the consciousness is gone. Therefore, it is not very difficult to understand that "I am the consciousness. I am not this material body." We have discussed all this point.
Now, so far scriptures are concerned, there are different scriptures all over the world in the civilized society, but *Bhagavad-gītā,* the Lord says that "The essence of all scripture is to understand my constitutional position." That's all. All the rituals... We should not be stuck up to the rituals or to the formulas of the... Of course, in the preliminary stages we require to stick to the formulas of religious scripture. But we must know that the whole idea is targeted to understand my real position. That is the whole idea of all scripture.

**Translation:** "Sūta said, In the beginning of the creation the Lord first of all expanded Himself in the universal form of *puruṣa* incarnation primarily with all the ingredients of material creation. And thus at first there was the creation of the sixteen principles of material action. This was on the intention of creating the material universe." *[**SB*1.3.1]
Purport. "As it is said in the *Bhagavad-gītā* that the Personality of Godhead Śrī Kṛṣṇa maintains these material universes by extending His part of plenary expansions, so this *puruṣa* form is the confirmation of the same principle. The original Personality of Godhead Vāsudeva, or Lord Kṛṣṇa, who is famous as the son of King Vasudeva or King Nanda, the very same Personality of Godhead is full with all opulences, all potencies, all fames, all beauties, all knowledge and all renunciations. Part of His opulences is manifested as impersonal Brahman, and part of His opulences is manifested as Paramātmā. This *puruṣa* feature of the same Personality of Godhead Śrī Kṛṣṇa is the original Paramātmā manifestation of the Lord.
"There are three *puruṣa* features in the matter of material creation, and this form, who is known as the Kāraṇodakaśāyī Viṣṇu, is the first of the three. The others are known as the Garbhodakaśāyī Viṣṇu and the Kṣīrodakaśāyī Viṣṇu, which we shall know one after another."

Kṛṣṇa says, *balaṁ balavatāṁ. Balavat* means one who has got strength—strong man. But that strength is Kṛṣṇa. We have, every one of us, we have got some strength, but this strength...
We are moving our hands, moving our legs, talking, but because all these strength are Kṛṣṇa, they are under Kṛṣṇa's control. It is not in our control, although we are thinking that it is my strength. Just like a wrestler... In Vṛndāvana, there was—eh, not was; he is still living—one wrestler. He became *bāljī*. So he was very proud of his strength, and he was quarreling with anyone, and everyone was afraid of his encroachment. But at the present moment that man is paralyzed; he cannot even talk. So all his strength is finished now.
So here Kṛṣṇa says, *balaṁ balavatāṁ cāhaṁ:* "I am the strength." So long Kṛṣṇa allows you to use the strength, you can become proud of your strength. But as soon as He withdraws, then you are useless. This is Kṛṣṇa conscious. If anyone understands this philosophy, that "I possess this strength, I possess this wealth, I possess this beauty, I possess such and such education, riches—but they are all Kṛṣṇa's gift. Actually I do not possess anything. Kṛṣṇa has given them to use, and He has given the privilege to me to use it. But I must know that these things are possession of Kṛṣṇa," this is Kṛṣṇa consciousness sense. Therefore because we are wrongly thinking that "I am the proprietor of this thing; I possess this thing," this is *māyā*. When you come to the conclusion that "I do not possess anything; everything belongs to Kṛṣṇa. I am simply allowed to use it, that's all..." Everything. We are claiming, "This is our country," "This is my land." Actually it is not so. The land belongs to Kṛṣṇa. He has already explained it, *bhūmir āpo 'nalo vāyuḥ* [[bg/7/4|[Bg. 7.4] ]]:

**Prabhupāda:** ...incidences are so described that anyone can remember. And by remembering these incidences, he becomes liberated. That is **Kṛṣṇa** consciousness. Indian man: One thing I want to know, you see, when He was Supreme God, why He created all these *līlās*? When..., suppose He was sent...
Indian man: That is..., so He has done. But as He sent Uddhava to Vṛndāvana to know about condition of Vṛndāvana people, even He was God, He knew it, no?

"May that Lord, who is known as the son of Śrīmatī Śacīdevī, be transcendentally situated in the innermost chambers of your heart. Resplendent with the radiance of molten gold, He has appeared in the Age of Kali by His causeless mercy to bestow what no incarnation ever offered before: the most sublime and radiant spiritual knowledge of the mellow taste of His service."
