# March 26 ## Spoken on March 26 *Lectures from this day: 15 recordings* --- **[1967: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.2.12–14 Lord Jagannātha, Baladeva and Subhadrā Installation](spoken/1967/670326sb.sf)** > You have to repeat. *Kīrtitavyaś ca. Śrotavyaḥ kīrtitavyaś ca dhyeyaḥ.* And how can you write or how you can speak unless you think of Him? You are hearing about Kṛṣṇa; you have to think, then you can speak. Otherwise not. So *śrotavyaḥ kīrtitavyaś ca dhyeyaḥ* and *pūjyaś ca.* And you should worship. Therefore we require this Deity for worshiping. We have to think of, we have to speak, we have to hear, we have to worship, *pūjyaś ca...* Then? Occasionally? No. regularly. Regularly. *Nityasya.* This is the process. > The *Bhāgavata* has recommended hearing, chanting, thinking... Just... Hearing, chanting, thinking and worshiping, the process which we just now introduced on the advent of Jagannātha Svāmī. Now this temple is now completely fixed. So this worshiping process..., this is the worshiping process. By light... This is called *ārātrika.* So at the end of *kīrtana* this *ārātrika* will go, and the worshiping process is to take the heat of the light, and whatever your condition is, pay something for the worship. --- **[1968: Bhagavad-gītā 7.1](spoken/1968/680326bg.sf)** > So Kṛṣṇa is describing personally. Kṛṣṇa's name is Yogeśvara, and Lord Śiva's name is Yogīśvara. Yogeśvara means... *Yoga,* the connecting link between the soul and the Supersoul, or the Supreme and the minute living creatures—that is called *yoga.* Connecting. So the... Who is the Supreme Personality of Godhead? Yogeśvara. The ultimate object of *yoga* is Kṛṣṇa. Therefore Kṛṣṇa's name is Yogeśvara. *Yatra yogeśvaraḥ hariḥ.* At the conclusion of the *Bhagavad-gītā* it is said by Sañjaya, *yatra yogeśvaraḥ hariḥ*.* The place where Yogeśvara, the supreme master of all *yoga* systems, Kṛṣṇa, is there... And *yatra pārtho dhanañjaya,* and where there is Arjuna, the greatest fighter, there is undoubtedly victory there. > It is said in the *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, ataḥ śrī-kṛṣṇa-nāmādi na bhaved grāhyam indriyaiḥ*. Our senses are imperfect always. Even we cannot understand perfectly the material world. Just like we have seen so many planets and stars in the sky at night, but we do not know what they are. We do not know even what is this moon planet. We are trying for so many years, trying to go there in sputnik and... Even one planet. Even we do not know what varieties are there even in this planet. If you go on the sea, if you go on the sky, you are perfectly illusioned. --- **[1971: Paṇḍāl Lecture at Cross Maidan](spoken/1971/710326le.bom)** > He is already Brahman-realized. Kṛṣṇa says, "Anyone who is engaged in My devotional service, *avyabhicāriṇi,* without any deviation, twenty-four hours," as we are teaching these boys and girls... This function is meant for engaging them there twenty-four hours in Kṛṣṇa's business. They are going to outside for securing advertisement. It may seem equal that another man has got to secure advertisement and they have also got securing advertisement, but there is gulf of difference. They have gone for Kṛṣṇa, and others, they have gone for sense gratification. That is the difference. > As I have told you yesterday, Kṛṣṇa said to Arjuna, *bhakto 'si, priyo 'si me*. "Because you are My pure devotee, because you are My friend, dear friend, therefore I am speaking to you *Bhagavad-gītā,* which is very mysterious," *rahasyaṁ hy etad uttamam*. And that mystery is very nice. So in order to understand *Bhagavad-gītā* we have to learn it from the devotee. That is also not very difficult. It is not necessary that you have to find out a devotee. The devotee is already there: Arjuna. And if you simply follow the footsteps of Arjuna, if you simply try to understand *Bhagavad-gītā* as Arjuna understood, then your study of *Bhagavad-gītā* is complete. That is not difficult. --- **[1972: Bhagavad-gītā 7.9](spoken/1972/720326bg.bom)** > So these are all described in the *Bhagavad-gītā.* If we read carefully we can understand all the processes of self-realization, and we may make our choice. But here Kṛṣṇa says, *tapaś cāsmi tapasviṣu.* That means that "I am the ultimate goal. I am the ultimate goal for the *tapasi.*" If you are undergoing different types of austerities and penance, it is to be understood that you are searching after Kṛṣṇa. And ultimately, by your successful execution of penances, you will meet Kṛṣṇa. Therefore Kṛṣṇa says, *tapaś cāsmi tapasviṣu.* > Simply that is recommended by Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, that because in this age people are very much embarrassed, they cannot adopt any prescribed method of self-realization. Therefore Caitanya Mahāprabhu has recommended that you remain in your position. It does not matter what you are—you may be a very great scholar, or you may be illiterate, you may be medical man or engineer or ordinary man—it doesn't matter. *Sthāne sthitāḥ śruti-gatāṁ tanu-vāṅ-manobhiḥ*. You remain in your position; there is no need of change. *San-mukharitāṁ bhavadīya-vārtām* : we have to simply hear from the right source the message of Kṛṣṇa. That will be sufficient, simply by hearing. --- **[1972: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.2.6](spoken/1972/720326sb.bom)** > Therefore in the *Bhagavad-gītā* Kṛṣṇa says this *bhakti-yoga* is *pratyakṣāvagamaṁ dharmyaṁ*. In any other religion type, religious principles, you cannot understand how far you are proceeded. But this *bhakti-yoga* is so nice that you will directly understand, "Yes, I am now making progress." *Vāsudeve bhagavati.* And the test is not that simply I say, "Yes, I have made progress." The test is the *jñāna* and *vairāgya.* There will be full knowledge, and *vairāgya.* Knowledge means *vairāgya.* I have got full attachment of the material world, and now I am saying I have realized Brahman*—*that is not Brahman realization. Brahmanrealization means *brahma...,* > Bhagavad-gītā* is the *kathā*, or words, spoken by the Lord Himself. Therefore it is *kṛṣṇa-kathā*—*kṛṣṇaḥ sva-kathāḥ*, the words spoken by God Himself. Similarly, this *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam* is also *kṛṣṇa-kathā*. This is also *kṛṣṇaḥ sva-kathāḥ.* It is spoken, *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam* is spoken about Kṛṣṇa—about Kṛṣṇa's activities, about Kṛṣṇa's birth, about Kṛṣṇa's appearance, disappearance, activities; about Kṛṣṇa's devotees. Therefore it is called in relationship with Kṛṣṇa; everything in relationship with Kṛṣṇa. --- **[1974: Bhagavad-gītā 4.6](spoken/1974/740326bg.bom)** > The so-called incarnation of God, they declare that "I am God." But... He may be God; God means a subordinate god. Not the Supreme God. The Supreme God is Kṛṣṇa. God means controller. You have..., you may have some controlling power, admitted, but you are not Supreme Controller. The Supreme Controller is Īśvara. Therefore here Kṛṣṇa... Therefore Kṛṣṇa says, *bhūtānām īśvaro 'pi. Īśvaraḥ.* All *bhūta... Bhūtānām* means all living entities, or everything which has appeared within this material world. *Janmādy asya yataḥ:* He is the supreme source of everything. That is also described in the Tenth Chapter that *aham ādir hi devānām*, *mattaḥ sarvaṁ pravartate.* Everything. *Mattaḥ parataraṁ nānyat kiñcid asti dhanañjaya*. These things are described. > So if so much power is there for the small particle of the Supreme Soul, how much the Supreme Soul, who is all-pervading, universal form, how much potency he has got you can just imagine. Therefore Kṛṣṇa says, *ajo 'pi:* "Although I have no birth and death." *Ajo 'pi sann avyayātmā. Ātmā* means this body, *ātmā* means this mind, and *ātmā* means the soul. Three things, they are called *ātmā.* So Kṛṣṇa's either body or mind or the soul, there is no difference. Kṛṣṇa's body is *avyaya.* Our body is *vyaya;* it deteriorates, changes. [sound of children talking in background] Ask them to stop. Or let them go away. --- **[1974: Morning Walk](spoken/1974/740326mw.bom)** > *Tān ahaṁ dviṣataḥ krūrān kṣipāmy ajasram āsurīṣv eva yoniṣu*. No mercy. "You surrender. Otherwise, if you are envious, then I am sending you to the darkest region of ignorance." --- **[1975: Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Ādi-līlā 1.2](spoken/1975/750326cc.may)** > Apahṛta-jñānā* means that although they have got university degrees, although they are called civilized, advanced in material civilization, but *māyayāpahṛta-jñānā.* Their degrees, because they do not know Kṛṣṇa thoroughly and therefore do not surrender to Kṛṣṇa, which Kṛṣṇa is canvassing personally, *sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja...*. He's personally canvassing. Because these rascals and fools, they are in darkness—they do not know what is the goal of life—Kṛṣṇa is so kind that He is canvassing, *sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja.* This is the philosophy. So still they are not doing so. Why? *Narādhamāḥ.* Because the lowest of the mankind, *narādhamā.* How they have become *narādhamā*? Now, *duṣkṛtina,* always committing sinful life. What is sinful life? Illicit sex, meat-eating, intoxication and gambling. Because they are addicted to these things they are *duṣkṛtina* and *narādhamā,* lowest of the mankind. And whatever knowledge they are acquiring by so-called education, that is false knowledge. *Māyayāpahṛta-jñānā.* This is the position. > Now these same two brothers have again descended, as Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya-Nityānanda. simultaneously They have appeared. Not that one is appeared, another is not there. No. Both of Them, *sahoditau.* And They are compared with the sun and moon. The business of sun and moon is to dissipate darkness. The sun rises during daytime, and the moon rises at night. But this sun and moon, wonderful sun and moon, *citrau,* They have appeared together. But the business is the same, *tamo-nudau.* Business is to dissipate darkness, because we are in darkness. We, anyone who is in this material world, he's in darkness. Darkness means ignorant, no knowledge. They are mostly animals. "Why they are animals, so civilized men, so well dressed and university education degrees? Why they are in darkness?" Yes, they are in darkness. "What is the proof?" The proof is that they are not Kṛṣṇa conscious. This is the proof. That is their darkness. Ask anybody, item by item, that... Ask, what do they know about Kṛṣṇa. Everyone is ignorant, dark. So that is the proof. How this is proof? Now, Kṛṣṇa says. We do not say; Kṛṣṇa says. How does He say? *Na māṁ duṣkṛtino mūḍhāḥ prapadyante narādhamāḥ, māyayāpahṛta-jñānā*. --- **[1976: Morning Walk](spoken/1976/760326mw.del)** >create a kingdom that you'll not be allowed to stay there in your kingdom, and by your action you have to accept another body. And what kind of body you are going to accept, you do not know. Therefore they deny next birth. --- **[1976: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 7.9.44](spoken/1976/760326sb.del)** > It is said in the *Bhagavad-gītā, ya imaṁ paramaṁ guhyaṁ mad-bhakteṣv abhidhāsyati* : "Anyone who is engaged in preaching this confidential science of *Bhagavad-gītā,*" *na ca tasmān manuṣyeṣu kaścid me priya-kṛttamaḥ,* "nobody is dearer to Me than he is." So if you want very quickly recognition by Kṛṣṇa, go on preaching Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Even it is imperfectly done, but because you are sincere in your capa..., whatever capacity you have got, if you preach, then Kṛṣṇa will be very much pleased. I have seen practically. In my Guru Mahārāja's day there was a paper, *Dainik Nadiyā Prakāśa.* [Daily Nadiya Prakāśa] It was being published daily, a piece of paper, just like I was publishing *Back to Godhead.* And if a small *brahmacārī* would go to Navadvīpa and would sell a few copies, one paisa a copy, that would be taken as a great preaching by Guru Mahārāja: "Oh, you have sold five copies? Very good." Because people are so reluctant—they are not at all interested in Kṛṣṇa consciousness—therefore we become very much engladdened when we see that some of our books and literatures are sold. They will read and be benefited. > So this is the mission of high-class Vaiṣṇava, how to preach Kṛṣṇa consciousness among the suffering humanity. And this is the purport of this verse said by Prahlāda Mahārāja, and we are following the footprints of Prahlāda Mahārāja. Never mind even it is imperfectly done, we must execute the orders of Caitanya Mahāprabhu, *yāre dekha tāre kaha kṛṣṇa-upadeśa*. I may not be so very expert in delivering the message of Kṛṣṇa, but my duty is to try to my best capacity how to distribute this knowledge to the suffering humanity. --- **[1977: Lecture](spoken/1977/770326le.bom)** > Kṛṣṇa said to Arjuna that "I am speaking to you knowledge, *jñānam, sa-vijñānam,* with scientific understanding." So "Why You are speaking to me?" *Jñānaṁ te 'haṁ sa-vijñānaṁ pravakṣyamy anasuyave:* "Because you are not envious. That is your qualification. You are very submissive student. Therefore I'll give you." So the dictation is coming from Kṛṣṇa, as Dr. Svarūpa Dāmodara says. That's a fact. Kṛṣṇa says, *sarvasya cāhaṁ hṛdi sanniviṣṭo mattaḥ smṛtir jñānam apohanaṁ ca* : "I am situated in everyone's heart." > So He is always prepared. Kṛṣṇa comes for this purpose, to give us the real knowledge. *Yadā yadā hi dharmasya glānir bhavati bhārata tadātmānaṁ sṛjāmy aham*. Why don't you take this opportunity? That is our lamentation. Especially in India, where Kṛṣṇa personally came, where He gave..., left behind Him so valuable instruction, *Bhagavad-gītā,* why you are misusing? Why you are misinterpreting and spoiling your life and spoiling others'? Don't do it. Take it very seriously. And as soon as we are engaged*—teṣāṁ satata-yuktānāṁ bhajatāṁ prīti-pūrvakam—*as soon as we submit to Kṛṣṇa and serve Him, *prīti-pūrvakam,* with love and affection... Not officially. Kṛṣṇa understands everything, that who is worshiping Him with love and affection and who is worshiping Him for some material gain. Kṛṣṇa is nobody's servant. He cannot be order-supplier. You must be prepared to supply His order or to obey His order. Then *prīti-pūrvakam:* then He will give you instruction. What instruction? "Again come back home." --- **[1977: Room Conversation](spoken/1977/770326r1.bom)** > No, they should know. Here we are teaching right. Why the rascals do not take advantage of us? --- **[1977: Room Conversation](spoken/1977/770326r2.bom)** > Kārtikeya: Do you require anything special at night? Puffed rice or that peanuts?Prabhupāda: Sufficient. I have the projecter...[indistinct] is responsible. *Nainaṁ chindanti śastrāṇi nainaṁ dahati pāvakaḥ* I will talk on that. --- **[1977: Room Conversation](spoken/1977/770326r3.bom)** > So you cannot deny, "There is no God." That is not possible. The earth is the mother. They say "mother country," "Mother Earth."
