# March 21 ## Spoken on March 21 *Lectures from this day: 7 recordings* --- **[1971: Room Conversation about Siddhasvarūpa](spoken/1971/710321r1.bom)** > Then Vaikuṇṭha, all the inhabitants are just like Nārāyaṇa, and in Vṛndāvana, Goloka Vṛndāvana, all the cowherds boys, they are as good as Kṛṣṇa. They do not know that Kṛṣṇa is... They love Kṛṣṇa intensely, without knowing that He is God, and that is required. The love is required. Not that one has to know Kṛṣṇa is God. God or no God, we love Kṛṣṇa, unconditionally. That is required. Although Kṛṣṇa is the Supreme Lord, but the *vṛndāvana-vāsī,* they do not know that Kṛṣṇa is God, but their love for Kṛṣṇa is so intense, that makes them perfect. That is required. > But you cannot understand God, neither you can understand Kṛṣṇa. That is because Kṛṣṇa is so unlimited. He, He, He becomes just, just like human being, human child, that is His grace; but it is not possible to understand Kṛṣṇa. He is unlimited. If one says that "I understood Kṛṣṇa," he is another fool. [laughs] Nobody can understand Kṛṣṇa. But still, one has to intensify his love for Kṛṣṇa without any deviation. That is perfection. --- **[1971: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 7.7.29–30](spoken/1971/710321sb.bom)** > Kaumāra ācaret prājño dharmān,* and that *brahmacārī*; *dharmān bhāgavatān*. There are different kinds of *dharma* but *bhāgavata*, the *dharma* which enlivens one to understand God and his relation with God, that is real *dharma*. Just like Kṛṣṇa is teaching: *sarva-dharmān parityajya*, "Give up all nonsense religion." > He should engage the students in the worship of the Deities. So no center should be without Deities. But if there is no arrangement, if there is no qualified persons, devotees to worship, it may not be taken up, the only chanting of Hare Kṛṣṇa *mantra* will help. But if there is possibility Deity worship must be there in every center. But not neglectfully. Deity worship is very difficult. Not a *mlecchatā.* Therefore in Kali-yuga Deity worship is also stopped: *harer nāmaiva kevalam* [*Cc Ādi* 7.76]. Alright, you can not worship Deity [indistinct]. *Dvāpare paricaryāyām *[1972: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.1.1](spoken/1972/720321sb.bom)** > Vāsāṁsi jīrṇāni yathā vihāya*. Just like when you change your dress you get another dress according to the money you pay—you go to the shopkeeper, "Give me some dress"—so similarly, there is no guarantee what kind of body you are going to get in the next life. But if we follow Vyāsadeva, as it is said here in the *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam*, *dhāmnā svena nirasta-kuhakaṁ satyaṁ paraṁ dhīmahi*; if you take shelter of Kṛṣṇa, *satyaṁ paraṁ*, then we go back to Him. Kṛṣṇa says, *tyaktvā dehaṁ punar janma naiti mām eti kaunteya*. > So I am not absolute controller. The absolute controller means who is not controlled by anyone else. He is never controlled by *māyā*. That is absolute controller. How God can be controlled by *māyā*? Therefore this Vedic term is used here, *svarāṭ*. He is not controlled. *Īśvaraḥ paramaḥ kṛṣṇaḥ* [Bs. 5.1], *svarāṭ.* And Kṛṣṇa also says in the *Bhagavad-gītā*, *mattaḥ parataraṁ nānyat* : "There is no other controller above Me." --- **[1974: Bhagavad-gītā 4.1](spoken/1974/740321bg.bom)** > So one who is wise, one who is learned, he should try to understand how to get out of this cycle of birth and death, repetition of birth and death. Now you have got this American body, very nice—rich nation's body. And we have got Indian body. That's all right. But what is the next life? That the people do not know. Just like you prepare by education for the future life. What you are preparing for the next life? They do not know, there is no..., whether there is life or not. Such a fool we are that we do not know. Therefore we have to hear from the perfect person, Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa says, *dehino 'smin yathā dehe*. > Therefore Kṛṣṇa says, "Try to understand this *Bhagavad-gītā* in this process." What is that? *Imaṁ vivasvate yogaṁ proktavān aham avyayam* : "I first of all spoke to the sun-god, Vivasvān." Vivasvān. The sun is there. Nobody knows what is there in the sun. The so-called scientists, philosopher... But there is possibility to talk with the sun-god personally. That is possible. You can also go. You can also talk, provided you become qualified, by Kṛṣṇa's grace. Kṛṣṇa is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. He can go anywhere. It is not that because the fiery planet... Sun planet is fiery planet. The body there, the body is made of fire there. Just like here the body's made of earth, similarly, there are planets where the body's made of water, the body's made of fire, because these are the material elements. *Bhūmir āpo 'nalo vāyuḥ. --- **[1975: Room Conversation with Press Representative](spoken/1975/750321r1.cal)** > So this is very scientific. How it not be scientific? It is spoken by God. *Cātur-varnyaṁ mayā sṛṣṭaṁ guṇa-karma-vibhāgaśaḥ*. Required. Just like in this institution, I am *guru,* and if everyone becomes *guru,* then who will carry out the order of *guru*? There must be disciple also, who will carry out the order of *guru.* So it is not required... Just like in your body, it is not that body is made of head only, but head is required. You cannot avoid head, neither you can avoid the leg. So *śūdra* required, the *brāhmaṇa* required, the *kṣatriya* required and the *vaiśya* required. And the society should be very nicely managed. Therefore Kṛṣṇa says, *cātur-varṇyaṁ.* Why does He not say one *varṇa, brāhmaṇa?* Naturally there must be division, because all men are not of the same quality. You cannot expect. So whatever quality he has got, utilize that. *Aṇḍha-khañja-nyāya. Aṇḍha-khañja-nyāya.* The one man is lame, and one man is blind. So both are useless. So they combine together. The lame man was taken on the shoulder of the blind man. So the lame man has no leg, but he has got eyes. He was directing, "Go this way." So both their business was perfect. Similarly, according to the quality of the work, there must be a class of man less intelligent. They cannot independently work. They must require a master. That is *śūdra.* And then the *vaiśya,* then the *kṣatriya,* and the upper man is *brāhmaṇa.* He gives the direction to the *kṣatriya.* He is ruler. > This is spiritual. Unless you come to this platform, there is no question of *samaḥ sarveṣu bhūteṣu* or *samyavāda.* Generally, they do not know it. They are talking of *samyavāda.* They do not know what is the platform of *samyavāda.* That is also further explained in *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, na te viduḥ svārtha-gatiṁ hi viṣṇum*. Bhāgavata, śāstra,* all Vedic literatures, they are perfect. So people do not know what is the aim of life. Therefore they have got different views. Actually they are missing what is the aim of life. There is a English proverb, "A man without aim and a ship without rudder," or something like that. So similarly, ask anybody what is the aim of life. He doesn't know; no clear idea. --- **[1975: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.2.6](spoken/1975/750321sb.cal)** > I have a desire to go all over the world and I create many varieties of desires *icchā-dveṣa samutthena sarge yānti paran-tapa*. Some things I desire and some things I hate. These things I don't want and these things I want. So desire and hate—two things are there with us. Some things we don't like and some things we like. So according to that, based on what we like, the Supreme Lord gives us a body. That is why, it is mentioned in the scriptures that the spirit soul is sitting in the body. Just like everyone sits in a car, there is one driver and there is one owner and the car is also there. So that car is this body or a machine. Just like a car is a machine, similarly, this body is also a machine. And say for example that the driver, actually there are two people sitting there—one is a driver and other is the owner. And as the owner instructs the driver drives, this is going on. Two souls—one is Super soul and the other is the individual spirit soul, are sitting in this body. This is described in the Upaniṣad also. There are two birds sitting on one tree. One is eating the fruits of the tree, and the other is simply watching. So the Super soul who is witnessing, is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. And one who is enjoying the fruits derived by working hard with this body, is the living entity, so both are there. The whole world is going on like this under the spell of illusion. All living beings are thinking that I am this body, and gratifying my senses is the goal of my life. This is called illusion. > go-kharaḥ* means—go means cow and *kharah* means ass. *yasyātma-buddhiḥ kuṇape tri-dhātuke* this material body is made up of three types of elements—*kapha* or mucus, *pitta* or bile and *vāyu* or air. This is part of Ayurveda. kapha, pitta, vāyu. This body is like a bag—*kuṇap, yasyātma-buddhiḥ kuṇape tri-dhātuke*, It is a bag made of three elements. It contains bones, flesh, blood, stool, urine, and all these elements constitute a material body. One who thinks I am that body, I am a Hindu, I am a Muslim, I am Indian, I am American, and thus identifies himself in connection with this material body, and things related to this body, like country, family, children, wife, as mine, actually all these things are related to the body, *sva-dhīḥ kalatrādiṣu, kalatra* means women, wife, and kalatrādi means, if one is married then there are children from the wife, they are also mine, and the wife is mine, and the land in relation to this body is also mine—nationalism, and the family in which I have taken birth is also mine, this is called the bodily concept of life—*ahaṁ mameti*. --- **[1976: Morning Walk](spoken/1976/760321mw.may)** > Puṣṭa Kṛṣṇa: So is the principle to first prove that they are insane and then afterwards that we're sane, or first to prove that we're sane and then... > Pañcadraviḍa: He showed up in Hong Kong. He said that "There are two great influences in my life: one Caitanya Mahāprabhu, who taught me service..., who taught me devotion," and he said, "Ramakrishna, who taught us service to man." He also showed up with one woman *sannyāsīni* or something. --- ## Letters on March 21 *Letters from this day: 24* --- **[1967: Letter to Satsvarupa](letters/1967/670321_satsvarupa)** > Regarding your question about the inhabitants of Vrajabhumi or Vrindaban it is to be understood that Vrindaban is the original abode of Lord Krishna as He is the original Personality of Godhead. --- **[1968: Letter to Brahmananda](letters/1968/680321_brahmananda)** > So far the Chatham Tower is concerned, you may drop the plan, and try to get the two-story house which you mentioned. --- **[1969: Letter to Brahmananda Hayagriva Tamala Krsna Umapati Dayananda](letters/1969/690321_brahmananda_hayagriva_tamala_krsna_umapati_dayananda)** > Enclosed you will find the copy of a letter received by me from the draft board. --- **[1969: Letter to Mr. Windisch](letters/1969/690321_mr._windisch)** > I am very much pleased to receive your letter dated March 18.
