# March 20 *Lectures from this day: 7 recordings* --- **[[spoken/670320sb.sf|SB 7.7.40-44 — March 20, 1967, San Francisco]]** **Prabhupāda:** ... [indistinct] of life. So Prahlāda Mahārāja is recommending that either material prosperity within this planet or in other planet, they are all destructible. They're not permanent. Therefore *nirmala,* not free from the contamination of material nature. That is also recommended in the *Bhagavad-gītā: ā-brahma-bhuvanāl lokāḥ punar āvartino 'rjuna* [[bg/8/16|[Bg. 8.16] ]], that even if you go to the highest planet, that is also perishable. So we are not interested in perishable things. Unfortunately, people have no knowledge that what is that unperishable. They are accustomed in the association of perishable things for many, many lives. Therefore they have no information what is the... If we say that "You work for nonperishable things," he'll be astonished, because he has no idea that there can be anything which is not..., which is not perishable. --- **[[../../spoken/1968/680320me.sf.md|Morning Walk — March 20, 1968, San Francisco]]** *[Lecture file not found]* --- **[[spoken/720320le.bom|Lecture — March 20, 1972, Bombay]]** **Prabhupāda:** They think *so'ham* means "I am the Supreme." But that is not possible. How you are supreme? If you are supreme, why you have become like cats and dogs? They say, "It is my *līlā*," but this is all nonsense. God's *līlā,* Kṛṣṇa's *līlā,* is in the Vṛndāvana. Why He should come to make a *līlā* like cats and dogs? So this is the wrong philosophy. Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme, Nārāyaṇa, sometimes they say Nārāyaṇa has become *daridra.* How Nārāyaṇa can become *daridra*? The Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is being constantly served by hundreds and thousands of goddess of fortune, how He can be *daridra*? These are manufactured words. You cannot find these words in the Vedic literature. They are concocted words. --- **[[spoken/740320r1.bom|Room Conversation — March 20, 1974, Bombay]]** **Prabhupāda:** ...a disciple has read it that from government side there is an article that in Iranian country they want meat, so all these skinny cows should be killed and meat should be exported so that you can get oil economically. So one should not think of this religious sentiment. They should be practical. They should not object. Government is going to open many slaughterhouse to get oil, and kill these loitering, mischief loitering cows, no food. Like that. So government policy is that religious [indistinct] is an opiate of..., they call? It is a sentiment. It has no value. That is government conclusion. So therefore their decision is not to encourage these temples and this *bhajana.* To their point of view, it is useless. So indirectly or directly, they will not patronize this. So under the circumstances, we have to make vigorous propaganda, public opinion. You see? Therefore I suggest that various meetings should be arranged in big, big halls, and public meeting so that public may understand, at least, that this movement is very important. And let there be advertisement, different subject matter, to invite people here. They may come, then I will explain. And all my students and others, they may hold, arrange for *pan*... I'll also speak. In that meeting make a nice gentleman president. In this way, create public opinion so that they will come here and they will sign this, "Yes, here must be one temple." Take signatures and... **Prabhupāda:** Many thousand, many *lakhs.* And this is one point... And we prove from *śāstric* evidences, as it is stated that, in the *Bhagavad-gītā,* that *catur-vidhā bhajante māṁ sukṛtino 'rjuna* [[bg/7/16|[Bg. 7.16] ]]. Bhajana, bhajante,* this *bhajana* word is used with reference to the very pious men, *sukṛtinaḥ.* And just opposite number is *duṣkṛtinaḥ,* miscreants. So *bhajana* is for the most pious men, recommended in the *Bhagavad-gītā,* and *Bhagavad-gītā* is held up in so great estimation all over the world, and this man has accused *bhajana* as nuisance? So how much rascal and ignorant person he is. And he is one of the important position. This is government. The *bhajana* is described in the Vedic *śāstra* as... It is a dealing of the most pious men. And he's talking it as nuisance. So far *kīrtana, bhajana-kīrtana, kīrtana* is concerned, Kṛṣṇa has said, *satataṁ kīrtayanto māṁ yatantaś ca dṛḍha-vratāḥ* [[bg/9/14|[Bg. 9.14] ]]. These are the symptoms of *mahātmās.* So we have to make position that *bhajana* is so important. And *Bhagavad-gītā* is meant for all solution of material problems, but we are not accepting it. So why not try to follow the principles of *Bhagavad-gītā?* And the most easiest process, *satataṁ kīrtayanto mām*: always chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa *mantra.* "So you please come with us. We are foreigners, but we know Kṛṣṇa is not for this or that. Therefore we have taken seriously this, here. So why, Indians, you are lacking here? This is... You come forward. You are all educated youths, gentlemen. You take your culture. We have taken our cul..., your culture. It is not 'your,' 'our,' but you think that it is your culture. But Kṛṣṇa is neither for Indian or for you. He's for everyone. So therefore we have taken to Kṛṣṇa. So why not try this, that it is stated in the..., [indistinct] *kīrtanād eva kṛṣṇasya mukta-saṅgaḥ paraṁ vrajet* [[sb/12/3/51|[SB. 12.3.51] ]]. --- **[[spoken/750320ar.cal|Arrival Lecture — March 20, 1975, Calcutta]]** **Prabhupāda:** 24th January to 15th March—less than two months—I had the opportunity to go round over the world. From Bombay I went to Hong Kong, then from Hong Kong to Tokyo, Japan; from Tokyo to Honolulu, Honolulu to Mexico City, then Venezuela. Caracas... Caracas? **Prabhupāda:** I forget name also. [laughs] South America. Then I was to go to Trinidad, West Indies, but there was no time. The West Indies people came to see me. Mostly they are Indians. And then Miami, then from Miami to Dall..., Atlanta, Atlanta. From Atlanta to Dallas, our *gurukula;* then to New York, then to London, and from London to Bombay again. **Prabhupāda:** Tehran. Yes. I forgot. He has come. Here is the Tehran representative. Yes. So there was very nice meeting in Tehran. Many scholar, Muhammadan, came to see me. So everyone is understanding the importance of this movement. So in Tehran I discussed about chanting of the Hare Kṛṣṇa *mantra.* So Caitanya Mahāprabhu says that there are many names. *Nāmnām akāri bahudhā nija-sarva-śaktiḥ* [Śikṣāṣṭaka 2]. Kṛṣṇa's name, manyfold. So I pleaded to the Muslim audience that "You can chant the name of Allah also. Not necessarily that you have to chant the Kṛṣṇa name, but any name indicating the Supreme Lord can be chanted." Because in the *śāstra* it is said, *harer nāma, harer nāma* [*Cc Ādi* 7.76], the holy name of the Lord. But it must be the name of the Lord. Actually, Kṛṣṇa has thousands of names, and His names are enumerated by His activities. Just like Kṛṣṇa accepted to become the son of Mother Yaśodā; therefore He is called Yaśodā-nandana. Kṛṣṇa accepted Vasudeva as His father, or Nanda Mahārāja; therefore He is called Nanda-nandana, Vāsudeva or Devakī-nandana. Kṛṣṇa acted as the charioteer of Arjuna; He is called Partha-sarathi. So Kṛṣṇa's name means attached with the activities along with His devotees. This is Kṛṣṇa's name. So if the Muhammadans' aim, the Supreme Lord, *Allah-u akbar,* "God the great..." Just like we say Parabrahman. Brahman means the biggest, *bṛhatvāt bṛhannatvāt.* On account of being very big, including everything, that God's another name is Parabrahman. *Paraṁ brahma paraṁ dhāma pavitraṁ paramaṁ bhavān* [[bg/10/12|[Bg. 10.12] ]]. Arjuna addressed Kṛṣṇa as Parabrahman. So *Allah-u akbar* means Parabrahman. --- **[[spoken/760320le.har|Lecture [Bengali] — March 20, 1976, Haridaspur]]** --- **[[spoken/770320r1.may|Room Conversations — March 20, 1977, Māyāpur]]** **Was: 770220R1-Mayapur [88:22 Minutes] correctionTamāla Kṛṣṇa:** ...John Lennon. They were chanting within the car while coming from Conway Hall.
