# March 10 ## Spoken on March 10 *Lectures from this day: 7 recordings* --- **[1967: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 7.7.22–26](spoken/1967/670310sb.sf)** > [pause] So we have discussed this *aṣṭau prakṛtayaḥ*..., eight different, differential elements, material elements. What is that? Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego. And these eight elements are described in the *Bhagavad-gītā* as separated energy. Separated energy you'll understand: just like I am speaking, and my speech is being recorded in the tape recorder. So even I am not here, if you apply the machine, it will exactly speak like me. That is my energy, but now it is separated. It cannot be changed. Suppose I am personally sitting here. If I want to speak something and I can change into another, but that machine cannot change. It will simply produce the sound, what is recorded there. Therefore it is separated energy. > Similarly, you should know anything material, they are under these six changes, and when vanishes, it will never come back again. It finishes forever. Your this nice body, when it will vanish, nobody can get it back. Suppose one man's very beautiful son or daughter has died. There is no power in this world which can bring back that body again. That is not possible. Therefore any sane man, any intelligent man, they should understand that "This is false. Behind this body, what is there?" That is being analyzed. This is self-analysis. --- **[1968: Initiation Lecture](spoken/1968/680310in.sf)** > Similarly, Kṛṣṇa consciousness or chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa will keep you progressing. At the same time, voluntarily, if you do not commit all these nonsenses, then it will be very nice. And if you continue this water-pouring, then... Just like a man is taking medicine, at the same time doing all nonsense. Then his disease will not be cured, or may take very, very long time. So we should not be irresponsible in that way, because life is very short. We do not know when death is coming, especially in these days. We are moving in the street, we are moving by plane, we are moving... Every step, there is danger. *Padaṁ padaṁ yad vipadām*.* It is a place of danger. > So this initiation means purification. In this material world we are all impure. Because we are impure, therefore death, disease, old age and pangs of birth overcome us. Just like in diseased condition—we have experience—there are so many painful conditions, similarly, in this materialistic way of life these symptoms, birth, death, disease and old age, they are different kinds of miseries. The rascals, materialist, they are thinking that they're making advance, but they have no solution for these things. --- **[1969: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 7.9.8–10](spoken/1969/690310sb.haw)** > Therefore it is necessary to bring one on the platform of goodness. Therefore there are so many restriction just to bring one from the lowest platform to the upper platform—at least to the material world—goodness. Of course, those who are Vaiṣṇavas, they are above all these platforms. Their platform is *sattvaṁ viśuddhaṁ vasudeva-śabditaṁ*. Their platform is *vasudeva*. *Vasudeva* means the transcendental platform. > This is the point to be understood. Our Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is being pushed in the Western countries, where the modes of passion and ignorance is very prominent. But this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement does not depend on these material modes of nature. It is above. It is without any impediment, without any stumbling block offered by the material causes. *Ahaituky apratihatā*. This movement cannot be checked by the material modes of nature. This is confirmed in the *Bhagavad-gītā* also. Lord says, Kṛṣṇa, --- **[1975: Bhagavad-gītā 7.2](spoken/1975/750310bg.lon)** > To become God is not easy thing. There are some qualification, yesterday we discussed, that He must be the richest, He must be the most powerful, He must be the most famous, He must be the most learned, He must be the most beautiful, and He must be the most renounced. This is the definition of God. A poor man, begging from door to door, he cannot become God, as it is misconceived, *daridra-nārāyaṇa.* Why Nārāyaṇa can be *daridra*? What is this nonsense? He is the richest. He is the richest. And why He can..., He will be *daridra*? The argument is forwarded that "God is everyone's heart; therefore everyone is God." What is this argument? Everyone's heart, God is there. God said, *īśvaraḥ sarva-bhūtānāṁ hṛd-deśe 'rjuna tiṣṭhati*. Where God says that because *īśvara,* the Supreme Being, is situated in everyone's heart, therefore everyone is God? What is this argument? Where Kṛṣṇa says that because *īśvaraḥ sarva-bhūtānāṁ hṛd-deśe 'rjuna tiṣṭhati,* therefore everyone is God? Is that very sound argument? > If you take *prasādam,* Kṛṣṇa will not eat everything. He will eat, and He will leave for you also. So don't be afraid that "If I offer Kṛṣṇa, He will take away." [laughter] Kṛṣṇa is not so hungry. Even if He is hungry, He can eat the whole universe. So just satisfy Kṛṣṇa. "Sir, it is all given by You, the food grains, these fruits, flowers. It is Your gift. So You first of all taste or eat. Then I shall eat." Kṛṣṇa is very satisfied. So we want Kṛṣṇa's satisfaction. *Svanuṣṭhitasya dharmasya saṁsiddhir hari-toṣaṇam*. You have cooked very nicely, and if Kṛṣṇa says, "Yes, it is very nice," then your cooking is perfection. *Saṁsiddhir hari-toṣaṇam.* --- **[1976: Morning Walk](spoken/1976/760310mw.may)** > Anantarām Śāstrījī*:* [Transl.But because of being young boys their intelligence is not mature and thus they cannot understand the goal of life and what to do.] --- **[1976: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 7.9.32](spoken/1976/760310sb.may)** > Mūḍhās,* rascals, they think Kṛṣṇa as one of us. Then you'll not be a *mūḍha.* You'll be intelligent. And what is the effect? Kṛṣṇa says personally, *janma karma ca divyaṁ me yo jānāti tattvataḥ*.* If you understand Kṛṣṇa perfectly well... Of course, we cannot know Kṛṣṇa perfectly. He's so big and we are so small that it is impossible. That is not possible. But you can understand Kṛṣṇa as much as He explains Himself in the *Bhagavad-gītā.* That much will help you. You cannot understand Kṛṣṇa. It is not possible. Kṛṣṇa cannot understand Himself; therefore He came as Caitanya, to understand Himself. > So this is God's creation, everything wonderful. But still, He's above, *turya.* He's not within this creation. He's creating, but He's not within it. *Etad īśanam iṣasya.* This is called godly power. He is within everything, and He is without still. So that is understood here. *Nyasyedam ātmani jagat vilayāmba-madhye. Amba-madhye... Yaḥ kāraṇārṇava-jale bhajati sma yoga-nidram ananta* [Bs. 5.47]. Perhaps most of you who are present in this meeting have heard the name of the famous book "Bhagavad-gita." The teachings of the Bhagavad-gita were given to Arjuna by his friend and philosopher Lord Krishna 5000 years ago, and since then the cult of Krishna Consciousness is historically current in India. Most of you know that the people of India worship Lord Krishna as the Supreme Personality of Godhead in many millions of Vedic temples, some of them more than two thousand years old. --- **[1971: Letter to K.
