**[1966: Bhagavad-gītā 2.7–11](spoken/1966/660302bg.ny.md)**
> So we should try to understand what is the meaning of Hṛṣīkeśa. *Hṛṣīka* means *indriya,* and *īśa* means Lord. So whatever senses we have got, the actually the proprietor of the senses—not myself. The proprietor of the senses is God. Just like we are sitting in this room. This room is allotted for our sitting under some consideration of rent or whatever it may be, but this room is not ours. That's a fact. We should not consider that "This is..., I am the proprietor of the room." Although I am using it to my heart's desire, as I like, that is a different thing. But as soon as there is some misunderstanding or the landlord says, "Now you cannot room in this room. Vacate," I have to vacate. You see?
> So here is a point, that sometimes we may do something which is approved by the general public, but it may not be approved by the supreme authority. Superficially it may appear very appealing to the sentiment of the public, but factually such thing may not be correct. May not be correct. If we accept Kṛṣṇa as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and "Why He was inducing Arjuna to fight?" it does not mean that He was inducing Arjuna to do something wrong. But from worldly point of view, Arjuna was a very pious man and he was declining to fight, not to kill his kinsmen, not to kill his friend. This... This is a very important point.

**[1972: Talk with Lalitā Prasād Son of Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura Bengali / English](spoken/1972/720302ta.bir)**

**[1973: Lecture](spoken/1973/730302le.jkt)**
> So Ladies and Gentlemen, I thank you very much. The Gāyatrī *mantra,* which you have chanted just now, we also chant the same Gāyatrī *mantra: oṁ bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ tat savitur vareṇyaṁ bhargo devasya dhīmahi.* So we have got Gāyatrī *mantra* general, as well as specific. Just like we have got Gāyatrī *mantra* for Guru-Gaurāṅga, then Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa, that completes the Gāyatrī *mantra.* So this Gāyatrī *mantra* is also mentioned in the beginning of *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.* In the beginning of *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam* there is the statement, *satyaṁ paraṁ dhīmahi.

**[1974: Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Ādi-līlā 7.2](spoken/1974/740302cc.may)**
> In any birth, you'll get father, mother. That is not a very difficult thing. Without father and mother there is no birth. So to get father and mother is usual; it is not very difficult. But, *kṛṣṇa guru nahi mile bhaja hari ei:* in every birth, you cannot get Kṛṣṇa or you cannot get bona fide spiritual master. *Kṛṣṇa guru nahi mile bhaja hari ei. Guru-kṛṣṇa kṛpāya pāya bhakti-latā-bīja*. These are the statements of *Caitanya-caritāmṛta.* Those who have read *Caitanya-caritāmṛta,* they know it. So, perfection of human life is possible by the mercy of *guru* and Kṛṣṇa. And that mercy can be achieved in the human form of life, not in the life of cats and dogs. Therefore it is said, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu is acting both as *guru* and Kṛṣṇa—combination of *guru* and Kṛṣṇa.
> The Vaiṣṇava, their principle is to become..., to come to the platform of eternal servitude. That is the philosophy of Vaiṣṇava philosophy: not to become the master but to become servant of the master. This is perfect philosophy. *Gopī-bhartuḥ pada-kamalayor dāsa-dāsānudāsaḥ*. So long in the material conception of life we... The *brāhmaṇa* is thinking the master of the *kṣatriya* or the *vaiśya* or the *śūdra;* a *sannyāsī* is thinking the master of *vānaprastha, gṛhastha, brahmacārī.* Similarly, in *gṛhastha* also, the chief man in the household life, he is thinking master. So everyone, *kṣatriya* king, he's thinking he's master. So, you are master to some extent, but if you accept Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu or Śrī Kṛṣṇa as your master, then your life is successful. This is the secret of success.
---
**[1974: Morning Walk [Partially Recorded](spoken/1974/740302mw.may)**
> They will get material opulence. *Asuras,* they want material opulence. They, they do not understand what is spiritual life or spiritual happiness, what is devotional service. Neither they'd like to understand. Which way?
---
**[1975: His Divine Grace Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Gosvāmī Prabhupāda's Appearance Day Lecture](spoken/1975/750302ba.atl)**
> So sometimes I am very much criticized that I am making foreigners a *brāhmaṇa.* The caste *brāhmaṇas* in India, they are very much against me. But this is not fact. When Caitanya Mahāprabhu said that all over the world His message will be broadcast, does it mean that it will be simply a cinema show? No. He wanted that everyone should become perfect Vaiṣṇava. That is His purpose. It is not to make a farce—some lecturing and..., or some mutual praising society. No. It is Kṛṣṇa Society. Everyone who will join this Kṛṣṇa Society movement, he is more than a *brāhmaṇa. Brāhmaṇa,* what is *brāhmaṇa*? *Brāhmaṇa* is also material. A devotee is more than *brāhmaṇa.* The brahminical culture is included already. *Brahma jānātīti brāhmaṇaḥ:* "*Brāhmaṇa* means one who knows the Absolute Truth, Brahman." He is *brāhmaṇa.* But that is not very fixed up. *Brahmeti paramātmeti bhagavān iti śabdyate*. Brahman is impersonal effulgence, and then further progress, realization of the localized aspect, Paramātmā, Antaryāmī, and finally, understanding the Supreme Person, Kṛṣṇa. Supreme Person, that is the final understanding.
> So try to receive Kṛṣṇa's grace through the disciplic succession, Caitanya Mahāprabhu. Then you will understand everything. *Yasya deve parā bhaktir yathā deve tathā gurau* [Śvetāśvatara Upaniṣad 6.23]. This is the process, Vedic process. One should have unflinching faith in God and spiritual master. Don't jump over God, crossing the spiritual master. Then it will be failure. You must go through. We are observing Vyāsa-pūjā ceremony, the birth anniversary of our Guru Mahārāja. Why? We cannot understand Kṛṣṇa without spiritual master. That is bogus. If anyone wants to understand Kṛṣṇa, jumping over the spiritual master, then immediately he becomes a bogus. Therefore Caitanya Mahāprabhu says, *guru-kṛṣṇa-kṛpāya pāya bhakti-latā-bīja*.
---
**[1975: Sunday Feast Lecture](spoken/1975/750302le.atl)**
> In this way you have to study what is God. Although apparently He has got two hands, two legs, but that hands and legs are not like ours. We have got our hands and legs. That is within this body. Just like your coat has got hand, but that hand is not real hand—the real hand is within the coat; similarly, we have got also hands and legs, but that is within this material body. Therefore Kṛṣṇa says, *dehino 'smin yathā dehe kaumāraṁ yau...*.* Within this body. We should not be concerned with your coat and shirt. We should be concerned with you. Similarly, we are now materially dressed. We should not be concerned with the dress. We should be concerned what is there within the dress. That is knowledge. That is knowledge.
> "God" means He is not like us. He can expand Himself. Even the *yogīs,* some of the *yogīs*—not these ordinary third-class *yogīs,* but those who have attained yogic perfection—they can expand the body in at least up to eight. The *yogīs* can do that. There are instances. So if an ordinary *yogī* can do that, just imagine how much potential there is of the Supreme Lord. Just like in the *Bhagavad-gītā* it is said, *īśvaraḥ sarva-bhūtānāṁ hṛd-deśe arjuna tiṣṭhati* :* "My dear Arjuna, the Supreme Lord is situated in everyone's heart, in everyone living being's heart." You just imagine how many living entities are there. They cannot be counted. *Jīva-bhago sa vijñeyaḥ sa anantaya kalpate.* But there are many million, trillions. Even million, trillions is insufficient. There is no counting. There are so many living entities, and they are all part and parcel of God. Just like the sunshine, the sun globe and the sun-god. The sun-god is within the sun globe, and the inhabitants of the sun globe, they are all very glowing, luminous. On account of their bodily glowing, the whole sun planet is glowing. On account of the sun planet glowing, the sunshine, which is reaching us from 93,000,000's of miles—we feel the heat and the light. This is an ordinary material thing. So just imagine what is the potential of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
---
**[1975: Morning Walk](spoken/1975/750302mw.atl)**
> Life is enjoying, or trying to enjoy, the matter. Matter is *prakṛti,* and the living entity is *puruṣa.* The chief *puruṣa* is Kṛṣṇa, and we are trying to imitate Kṛṣṇa to enjoy. That is stated in the *Bhagavad-gītā.* Living entity is superior *prakṛti. Apareyam itas tu viddhi me prakṛtiṁ paraḥ* [[bg/7/5|[Bg. 7.5] ]]. It is a *prakṛti,* but we are trying to become *puruṣa.* This is struggle for existence. Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa. [break] ...trying to live within the water. They are not trying?
---
**[1975: Room Conversation with Scientists](spoken/1975/750302r2.atl)**
> These four things are the demands of the body. We must eat something, we must sleep for some time, we must have sex life also, we must defend. That is all right, but not for sense gratification. That a child is required, progeny is required, for that sex life is good. But they are using sex life for pleasure and killing the child—and implicated in sinful activities and therefore suffering. And scientists encouraging them, "Yes, you can kill child." Why should you create child and kill him? That, nonsense, they cannot understand.
> Indians are meant for doing good to others. That is Caitanya Mahāprabhu's mission. An Indian can become perfect because there is all the Vedic literature. *Janma sārthaka kari'.* First of all you become perfect, then preach the knowledge for others' benefit. This is Caitanya Mahāprabhu's mission. Now our leaders says, "Throw away these all *śāstras* in the water." This is going on. And what they have gained by throwing away? And actually, government is against us, against my movement in India. What can I do?
---
**[1976: Morning Walk [Partially Recorded](spoken/1976/760302mw.may)**
> It can be organized. The children should be raised Kṛṣṇa devotees. The woman can be engaged. Everyone can be engaged. I can give you suggestion if you can execute.
---
**[1976: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 7.9.24](spoken/1976/760302sb.may)**
> Therefore Caitanya Mahāprabhu said, as Prahlāda Mahārāja says, *nija bhṛtya-pārśvam* : "Engage me as the servant of Your servant." The same thing Caitanya Mahāprabhu said, *gopī-bhartuḥ pada-kamalayor dāsa-dāsa-anudāsa*. So this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement means we have to give up this nonsense idea of becoming master. This is Kṛṣṇa consciousness. We have to learn how to become servant. Not only servant—servant of the servant, servant of the... That is cure. Therefore Prahlāda Mahārāja said, "So I have understood all this nonsense of becoming master. My father also tried to become master. So this knowledge, now I am perfect. There is no use of becoming master. Better, if You kindly want to give me some benediction, kindly make me the servant of Your servant." This is benediction. So one who has learned to become the servant of Kṛṣṇa's servant, he is perfect. Therefore Caitanya Mahāprabhu says, *tṛṇād api sunīcena taror api sahiṣṇunā* [*Cc Ādi* 17.31].
> Therefore here it is said, *upanaya māṁ nija-bhṛtya-pārśvam*. This is the best association. When Nārada Muni is describing how the man should behave, how the woman should behave—we are discussing now in our tape dictaphone; you'll hear that—that there is no such thing to become master. It is useless. You cannot become master. *Ahaṅkāra-vimūḍhātmā kartāham iti manyate*. You cannot become master. *Jīvera svarūpa haya nitya kṛṣṇa dāsa*.
