**Prabhupāda:** Lord Caitanya, from different quotations of *Vedas,* He establishes that the Supreme Absolute Truth is person. He's not imperson. And so far Śaṅkarācārya is concerned, he was ordered to preach Māyāvāda philosophy by the Supreme Personality of Godhead for the time being. It is not that this is the only process for realizing the Absolute Truth.
There is a very nice story in this connection. There was a physician and his servant. So one day the physician was called by some person to treat his horse. So when the physician came, he asked, "What is the matter?" He says that "The horse has suddenly swollen his throat. So please treat." Then the physician took a hammer and strongly struck the swollen portion, and it was at once cured.
The servant saw, "So this is the process of curing swollen parts of the body." So on that very day, he resigned his service and he thought that "Now I have learned how to cure swollen parts of the body." And whenever he was called to treat such disease, he used to hammer over that swollen part and the patient died.

**Prabhupāda:** ...identified with this material body. This is material life. Actually, I am spirit soul. I am not matter. Everyone can understand it, because the theory that living condition is developed under certain material condition. Just like we see sometimes that one germ is coming out the stool.
So people who are less intelligent, they say that the matter is producing a living being. There is another instance, *vṛścika-taṇḍula-nyāya* [*nyāya-śāstra*]. Sometimes we see the scorpion is coming out from a heap of rice. So we are thinking that the rice is giving, generating, a life, and that is not fact. The fact is that the scorpions, they lay down eggs within the rice, and by the fermentation of the rice it..., a small scorpion come out.
So matter is not the cause of generating life. That's not a fact. Actually the living entity develops his body. Just like when there is sex intercourse, man and woman, the secretion mixes together; it becomes emulsified within the womb, and if the circumstances is favorable, then a living entity takes shelter of the secretion and the body develops. This is science. Not that the secretion itself in..., generating the body, generating the life. No.

**Dayānanda:Translation:** "O the great Supreme, in every type of body, either in the heavenly planet or in the hellish planet, there are pleasing and not pleasing circumstances on account of combination and separation. But both of them are very, very regrettable position, as if burning in the fire. Although there are many remedial measures to get out of the miserable condition of life, but in the material world any such counteraction is more miserable than the miserable condition itself. The only remedial measure, I think, therefore, is to be engaged in Your service. Kindly instruct me in that way."
**Prabhupāda:** > yasmāt priya apriya-viyoga-saṁyoga-janma- > śokāgninā sakala-yoniṣu dahyamānaḥ > duḥkhauṣadhaṁ tad api duḥkham atad-dhiyāhaṁ > bhūman bhramāmi vada me tava dāsya-yogam > [[sb/7/9/16|[SB. 7.9.16] ]]
Prahlāda Mahārāja, previous verse, he said, "I am very much afraid of this material existentional condition," *duḥkhālayam aśāśvatam* [[bg/8/15|[Bg. 8.15] ]]. Now he's describing what is the different phases of such suffering, *yasmāt,* on account of this material existence. When we come to this material world there are connections with so many persons, *bhūtāpta-pitṛṇām, nṛṇām.* [[sb/11/5/41|[SB. 11.5.41] ]] As soon as we come down from the womb of the mother, there are so many relatives, friends, *bhūta-āpta, pitṛ, bhūtāpta, bhūtāpta, ṛṣi, pitṛṇām nṛṇām.* We become connected. But some of them are dear and some of them are not very friendly—enemies. This is the condition in the material world. Nobody can say that "I am situated in a very nice condition. Everyone is my friend. No enemy." It is not possible. That is the nature of this material world, that you come in contact with so many persons, animals, and suppose your forefathers... It is described, *bhūtāpta-nṛṇām pitṛṇām.* So we get connections. This is the way of nature. But not all of them are friendly. Even one is friendly today, tomorrow he can become enemy. This is the condition.

**Rāmeśvara:** Well, the cover art has changed a little so you can read the titles, and it fits in the series. And also the captions are on one side; the pictures are on the other side.
**Rāmeśvara:** Only in 1.2 and 1.3 we added some new pictures. But in 1.1 there were so many pictures, it wasn't necessary.
**Rāmeśvara:** And now each book also has its own index in the back. That was also a reason for reprinting the First Canto.

**Prabhupāda:** I am not feeling very well, but I am living in Vaikuṇṭha. I am not fit for this place. It is Vaikuṇṭha. Hmm?
**Prabhupāda:** Hmm? Always Hare Kṛṣṇa is going on. I am hearing. Where is such place throughout the whole world?
**Rāmeśvara:** The appearance of our center here has improved at least a thousand times from last year.
