**Prabhupāda:** This Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is a self-purification movement. The method is vibration of transcendental sound. This Hare Kṛṣṇa, this sound, is not material sound. It is descended from the spiritual world. Kṛṣṇa and Kṛṣṇa's name—not different. *Abhinnatvāṁ nāma-nāminoḥ* [[cc/madhya/17/133|[Cc. Madhya 17.133] ]].
As in this material world there is difference between the name and the substance—if you are thirsty, then if you simply chant "water, water, water," your thirst will not be quenched; you have to get the substance water—but in the spiritual world it is, being absolute, the name and the person whose name we are chanting, they are the same.
Therefore by chanting this holy name of God, Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa... *Hare* is addressing the spiritual energy of the Lord, and *Kṛṣṇa* is the Supreme Lord. So by being in touch with the Supreme Lord and His energy directly, we become purified. Exactly like if you take one iron rod, put into the fire, it becomes warmer, warmer, and at last it becomes red hot.

Arjuna is advised by Kṛṣṇa. He has described before the..., what is *daivī sampatti* and what is *āsurī sampat*. *Abhayaṁ sattva-saṁśuddhir*. These are *daivī sampat:*

**Prabhupāda:** > ...sa vai puṁsāṁ paro dharmo > yato bhaktir adhokṣaje... > [[sb/1/2/6|[SB. 1.2.6] ]]
Somehow or other we have to turn to Kṛṣṇa consciousness. That is the aim of life. This human form of life is meant for this purpose, *yato bhaktir adhokṣaje* and... [someone speaking in Hindi]
[break] ...religion you may profess, it does not matter. It must teach you how to render loving service to the Lord. That is required. [break] ...*pravṛtti* and *nivṛtti.* So there are two kinds of *dharma. Dharma* means occupational duties.* [Hindi] [break]

**Pradyumna:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* [Prabhupāda and devotees repeat] [leads chanting of verse, etc.]
**Translation:** "O son of Kuntī, Arjuna, I am the taste of water, the light of the sun and moon, the syllable oṁ in the Vedic mantras. I am the sound in ether and ability in man."

**Prabhupāda:** This is also very good, good in this sense, that they do not eat without restriction. There is some restriction.
**Prabhupāda:** Yes. That if you want to eat meat and chicken, then you first of all sacrifice before their deity. So at least they'll be restricted from eating meat purchased from slaughterhouse. But this rascal civilization, one side they're advertising, "Stop cruelty to animals," another side they're opening unrestricted slaughterhouse. Just see. One side they're allowing marriage of woman every week, another side contraception. Just see their contradiction. [*japa*] [break] ...there is animal sacrifice in the church. Is there any such pre...?

**Prabhupāda:** ...lower animals. Nobody is starving. Have you seen any bird die of starvation? There are so many hundreds, thousands of birds in this garden.
**Devotee:** Even in all these countries, Śrīla Prabhupāda, they are always complaining about there are so many starving people. But nobody has ever seen anybody die.
**Prabhupāda:** [chuckles] In India also. They, "Poverty, poverty, poverty." Have you seen anyone dying?

**Prabhupāda:** > dharmaḥ projjhita-kaitavo 'tra paramo nirmatsarāṇāṁ satāṁ > vedyaṁ vāstavam atra vastu śivadaṁ tāpa-trayonmūlanam > śrīmad-bhāgavate mahā-muni-kṛte kiṁ vā parair īśvaraḥ > sadyo hṛdy avarudhyate 'tra kṛtibhiḥ śuśrūṣubhis tat-kṣaṇāt > [[sb/1/1/2|[SB. 1.1.2] ]]
So *dharma* means, generally, a kind of faith, *dharma.* But actually *dharma* does not mean that. Faith, you may have faith, and others may not have, but that is not fact. That is fact which is accepted by everyone, either he may have faith or may not have faith. In Sanskrit language, the Vedic literature, *dharma* means the codes or the law given by God. So one may have faith or one may not have faith; it doesn't matter. The codes or law given by God, that is a fact. Just like the law given by the state: one may not have faith, or one may have faith, but it must be accepted. For example, just on the street we see, "Keep to the right." This is the law given by the state. So you may believe it or not believe it; you have to carry out. So it cannot be changed in any circumstance. Therefore *dharma* does not mean a faith. It is compulsory.
