Trying to practice *yoga* while engaging the mind in material enjoyment is like trying to ignite a fire while pouring water on it. Similarly, *yoga* practice without mental control is a waste of time." **Prabhupāda:** Because I sit down for meditation. Of course, if meditation is focusing the mind on Viṣṇu, that is very good. But there are so many *yoga* societies, they educate their student to concentrate their mind on something void, something color, not exactly to Viṣṇu form. You see. So that is very difficult task. That is also explained in the *Bhagavad..., kleśo 'dhikataras teṣām avyaktāsakta-cetasām* [[bg/12/5|[Bg. 12.5] ]]. One who is trying to concentrate his mind on the imperson, or voidness, it is very difficult and troublesome. At least here in this temple, these students, they are trying to concentrate his mind on Kṛṣṇa. But to concentrate one's mind in void, that is very difficult. --- **[[spoken/700220in.la|Sannyāsa Initiation — February 20, 1970, Los Angeles]]** **Prabhupāda:** > nama apavitraḥ pavitro vā > sarvāvasthāṁ gato 'pi vā > yaḥ smaret puṇḍarīkākṣaṁ > sa bāhya abhyantaram śuci > śrī viṣṇu, śrī viṣṇu, śrī viṣṇu > [Garuḍa Purāṇa] The purport of this *mantra* is that any condition of life. There are two conditions: *pavitra* and *apavitraḥ. Pavitra* means purified, and *apavitraḥ* means contaminated. We are all spirit soul. By nature we are purified, but at the present moment, in this material condition of life with this material body, we are contaminated. So this whole process of Kṛṣṇa consciousness is to liberate ourself from the contaminated state to the pure stage. Just like a man, when he is diseased, he is treated under prescribed medical method to come to the healthy stage. To come to the healthy stage does not mean that your features will be changed. Just like a diseased man, when he is cured of the disease, he has got the same two hands and legs and mouth and everything. It is simply he is freed from the symptoms of the disease. --- **[[spoken/710220sb.gor|SB 6.3.27-28 — February 20, 1971, Gorakhpur]]** **Haṁsadūta:** The following lecture was recorded on the morning of February 20th, 1971, at Śrī Kṛṣṇa-niketana, Gorakhpur, U.P. [break] So devotees, they are so exalted that as Kṛṣṇa's activities, pastimes, are transcendentally relishable, similarly, devotees' dealings with the Personality of Godhead is also relishable. Sometimes we find the *gopīs,* they accuse Kṛṣṇa, "Ungrateful cheater," and so many things. Very strong words sometimes *gopīs* use. --- **[[spoken/720220le.vis|Lecture at Kṛṣṇa Caitanya Maṭha — February 20, 1972, Visakhapatnam]]** **Prabhupāda:** > kṛṣṇot-kīrtana-gāna-nartana-parau premāmṛtāmbho-nidhī > dhīrādhīra-jana-priyau priya-karau nirmatsarau pūjitau > śrī-caitanya-kṛpā-bharau bhuvi bhuvo bhārāvahantārakau > vande rūpa-sanātanau raghu-yugau śrī-jīva-gopālakau [*Ṣaḍ-gosvāmy-aṣṭaka*] Ladies and Gentlemen, I thank you very much for your coming here to participate in this great Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement. This movement was started by Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu, as we have explained several times, and the footsteps of Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu was followed by the six Gosvāmīs. *Vande rūpa-sanātanau raghu-yagan śrī-jīva-gopālakau.* The six Gosvāmīs, who lived at Vṛndāvana, they came from different parts of the country. Rūpa Gosvāmī and Sanātana Gosvāmī belonged to formerly South Kanada, and they established..., their forefathers established themselves in Bengal. So Gopāla Bhaṭṭa Gosvāmī was South Indian. Similarly, Śrī Jīva Gosvāmī belonged to Bengal. Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu picked up very great personalities from all parts of the country. *Vande rūpa-sanātanau raghu-yagau śrī-jīva-gopālakau.* So how they... --- **[[spoken/720220sb.vis|SB 1.2.5 — February 20, 1972, Visakhapatnam]]** **Prabhupāda:** > ... pṛṣṭo 'haṁ > bhavadbhir loka-maṅgalam > yat kṛtaḥ kṛṣṇa-sampraśno > yenātmā suprasīdati > [[sb/1/2/5|[SB. 1.2.5] ]] Ladies and Gentlemen, I thank you very much for your kindly coming here to participate in this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement. So I am reciting one or two verses from *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam,* First Canto, Second Chapter, wherein Sūta Gosvāmī describes to the great sages assembled in Naimiṣāraṇya in respect of the importance of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Naimiṣāraṇya, perhaps you have heard the name. At present there is a railway station near..., between Hardoi and Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh. The station is called Nimsar, and still the Naimiṣāraṇya atmosphere is maintained there. It is a very nice, sacred place. If you go there, you will feel immediately Kṛṣṇa consciousness. So in that meeting, the great sages and saintly persons assembled there inquired from Sūta Gosvāmī that "After departure of Lord Kṛṣṇa, wherein the principles of religions are kept?" --- **[[spoken/730220sb.auc|SB 1.1.9 — February 20, 1973, Auckland]]** --- **[[spoken/740220bg.bom|Bg 7.5 — February 20, 1974, Bombay]]** **Pradyumna:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* [Prabhupāda and devotees repeat] [leads chanting of verse, etc.] **Translation:** "Besides this inferior nature, O mighty-armed Arjuna, there is a superior energy of Mine, which are all living entities who are struggling with material nature and are sustaining the universe." --- **[[spoken/740220mw.bom|Morning Walk — February 20, 1974, Bombay]]** **Prabhupāda:** ...and happiness also. That is my experience. I always said that "You are so much graced by God in so many ways." **Prabhupāda:** At least, preliminary condition for being in touch with God is there. Because Kṛṣṇa says, *catur-vidhā bhajante māṁ sukṛtino 'rjuna* [[bg/7/16|[Bg. 7.16] ]]. So they are taking to Kṛṣṇa consciousness. That means they are pious. **Prabhupāda:** And, and the result of *sukṛti,* piety, is *janmaiśvarya-śruta-śrī* [[sb/1/8/26|[SB. 1.8.26] ]]. Janma, to take birth, to take birth in nice family. And *aiśvarya,* riches. And... *Janmaiśvarya-śruta,* education, and *śrī,* beauty. All these four things are in America. There every boy, every girl is nicely educated, qualified, artist. --- **[[spoken/750220sb.car|SB 1.1.1 — February 20, 1975, Caracas]]** **Prabhupāda:** > oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya > janmādy asya yato 'nvayād itarataś cārtheṣv abhijñaḥ svarāṭ > tene brahma hṛdā ya ādi-kavaye muhyanti yat sūrayaḥ > tejo-vāri-mṛdāṁ yathā vinimayo yatra tri-sargo 'mṛṣā > dhāmnā svena sadā nirasta-kuhakaṁ satyaṁ paraṁ dhīmahi So first of all, before beginning the *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam,* the author is offering respectful obeisances to the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The Supreme Personality of Godhead is explained in the following four lines. The first line is *janmādy asya yataḥ,* means Supreme Personality of Godhead is the origin of all emanation. The human mind is inquisitive. A human being, even a child, he enquires from his father. We have got experience personally. Any intelligent boy, he enquires from the father. He is inquisitive. That is human life. He enquires, "What is this, father? What is this, father?" And the father replies. So unless this enquiry is there, he is not human being. A cat and dog cannot enquire about the origin of a thing. But a human mind is developed in such a way that he enquires, he makes research, to find out the original cause. Just like nowadays the scientists are enquiring about the origin of life. But unfortunately, they are finding out the original cause which is not. Just like they are trying to research out what is the origin of life. And there are many, many learned scientists, they think that the origin of life is chemical combination. --- **[[../../spoken/1976/760220mw.may.md|Morning Walk — February 20, 1976, Māyāpur]]** *[Lecture file not found]* --- **[[spoken/760220sb.may|SB 7.9.13 — February 20, 1976, Māyāpur]]** Anantarām Śāstrījī*:* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya. *[**Prabhupāda and** devotees repeat]* [chants verse, with **Prabhupāda and** devotees repeating]* [break] > sarve hy amī vidhi-karās tava sattva-dhāmno > brahmādayo vayam iveśa na codvijantaḥ > kṣemāya bhūtaya utātma-sukhāya cāsya > vikrīḍitaṁ bhagavato rucirāvatāraiḥ > [[sb/7/9/13|[SB. 7.9.13] ]] **Dayānanda:Translation:** "O my Lordship, all the demigods headed by Lord Brahma, they are all Your sincere servants, situated in transcendental position, and they are not like us, my father, the demon Hiraṇyakaśipu, the demon.
