# February 16 *Lectures from this day: 9 recordings* --- **[[spoken/690216bg.la|Bg 6.13-15 — February 16, 1969, Los Angeles]]** *Sāṅkhya-yoga* is the *aṣṭāṅga-yoga.* This sitting posture and meditation, this is called *sāṅkhya-yoga.* And *jñāna-yoga* means by..., through philosophical process, by analytical process what is Brahman and what is not Brahman. *Neti neti.* That is *jñāna-yoga.* Just like *Vedānta-sūtra, jñāna-yoga.* You study *Vedānta-sūtra,* it says *janmādy asya yataḥ.* They gives one hint codes, that the Supreme Brahman, Absolute Truth, is that from whom everything is emanated. Now we try to understand what must be that. That is explained in the *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam,* what is nature of that Absolute Truth. The Absolute Truth, in the first verse of *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam* it is said: *janmādy asya yato 'nvayād itarataś cārtheṣv abhijñaḥ svarāṭ.* Now the Absolute Truth, if He is the supreme cause of all emanation, then what are the symptoms? --- **[[spoken/710216cc.gor|Cc. Madhya 6.154 — February 16, 1971, Gorakhpur]]** **Prabhupāda:** Caitanya Mahāprabhu is quoting from *Viṣṇu Purāṇa.* As I have told you the other day, there are eighteen *purāṇas: sattvika-purāṇa,* *rājasika-purāṇa,* and *tamasika-purāṇa.* The whole scheme of Vedic culture is to reclaim all fallen conditioned souls to the platform of transcendental realization. That is the scheme. There are different status of human understanding according to the association of the qualities. The living being is just like a spark of the complete fire. Brahman is the complete fire, and the living entities are just like sparks. The equality with Param Brahman and individual living entities on the qualitative basis. The quality is the same. Brahman, Param Brahman. *Jivātmā,* Brahman. Spiritual, and Paramātmā, or Parameśvara, He is supreme, complete. So *Viṣṇu Purāṇa* is for the persons who are on the platform of *sattva-guṇa,* those who are associating with the modes of goodness. This is not correct that everyone is on the same platform. Generally, at the present moment, people are in the platform of *tamo-guṇa* and *rajo-guṇa,* mixed. So one has to rise to the platform of *sattva-guṇa.* --- **[[spoken/710216le.gor|Lecture at Kṛṣṇa Niketan — February 16, 1971, Gorakhpur]]** **Haṁsadūta:**Morning lecture, recorded on the morning of February 16, 1971, at Śrī Kṛṣṇa-niketana, Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. [break] **Prabhupāda:** In this connection, the comments of Śrīdhara Swami is very important. He is putting question, *nānu sakṛd ucaritena nāmābhyasena kathāṁ sarva-pāpa-kṣayaṁ syāt, śraddhā-bhakty-avṛtyad eva adityader api vidhānāḥ.* Śrīdhara Swami says that simply by chanting without any regulative principles, one becomes liberated. So how is that? So he replies himself also, "No, there are regulative principles." The idea is that chanting of the holy name is so powerful that it can immediately liberate the vibrator. But because he is prone to fall down again, therefore there are regulative principles. Or in other words, if one is liberated simply by chanting once, offenseless, holy name, what to speak of others who are following the regulative principles. This is the idea. --- **[[spoken/720216r1.mad|Room Conversation [Hindi] — February 16, 1972, Madras]]** **Prabhupāda:** So, everyone should engage in chanting of the holy names half an hour each evening and morning. Such is also the instructions of the scriptures: This is the subject matter of our preaching we do it ourselves and we request you all, to engage in this *kirtan* and take advantage of it. Now if anyone of you has a question.. --- **[[spoken/730216bg.syd|Bg 7.1, Engagement — February 16, 1973, Sydney]]** **Prabhupāda:** ...yogaṁ yuñjan mad-āśrayaḥ asaṁśayaṁ samagraṁ māṁ yathā jñāsyasi tac chṛṇu* [[bg/7/1|[Bg. 7.1] ]] This is a verse from *Bhagavad-gītā*, how to develop Kṛṣṇa consciousness, or God consciousness. The *Bhagavad-gītā*, most of you have heard about the name of this book. It is very widely read book of knowledge throughout the whole world. Practically in every country there are many editions of *Bhagavad-gītā*. So the *Bhagavad-gītā* is the basic principle of our Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement. What we are spreading as Kṛṣṇa consciousness, that is only *Bhagavad-gītā*. It is not that we have manufactured anything. The Kṛṣṇa consciousness is existing since the creation, but at least for the last five thousand years, when Kṛṣṇa was present on this planet, He personally instructed Kṛṣṇa consciousness, and the instruction is left behind Him. This is *Bhagavad-gītā*. --- **[[spoken/750216bg.mex|Bg 2.16 — February 16, 1975, Mexico City]]** --- **[[spoken/760216sb.may|SB 7.9.9 — February 16, 1976, Māyāpur]]** Anantarām Śāstrījī*:* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya. *[*Prabhupāda and* devotees repeat] [chants verse, with **Prabhupāda and **devotees repeating] **Translation:** "Prahlāda Mahārāja continued to offer his prayers as follows: I consider that a person who is possessed of all riches, born in an aristocratic family, by bodily luster and by beauty, by austerity, by education, by expert activities, by effulgence, by influence, by bodily strength, historical activities, intelligence and mystic yoga power, by all these qualifications, nobody can worship the Supreme Personality of Godhead, but simply by devotional service as it was done by Gajendra. Thus the Lord was satisfied upon him." --- **[[spoken/770216r1.may|Morning Room Conversation — February 16, 1977, Māyāpur]]** **Satsvarūpa:** If you associate with a certain type of people, your reputation will be that you are like them, and you'll become like them. **Prabhupāda:** [chuckling] So our Śrīdhara Mahārāja's associates are not very good. Then what is his position? **Satsvarūpa:** You can't say he is opposed to them if he always associates with them. They're envious... --- **[[spoken/770216r2.may|Room Conversation — February 16, 1977, Māyāpur]]** **Prabhupāda:** ...*etad anyathā ajñānam* [[bg/13/12|[Bg. 13.12] ]]. Find out *Bhagavad-gītā.* This is knowledge. All other things are bogus. Otherwise how could we convince big, big scientists? They are not ordinary men, Doctor, that Svarūpa Dāmodara, one of the first-class scientists. He has got very good degree from Calcutta University, from other university, M.Sc. and other. He is very intelligent boy. He studies science very particularly, means sound knowledge.
