**Revatīnandana:** Verse number two: "What is called renunciation is the same as *yoga,* or linking oneself with the Supreme, for no one can become a *yogī* unless he renounces the desire for sense gratification."
**Prabhupāda:** Here is the point of *yoga* practice. *Yoga* means to join. Now, in our conditional state, although we are part and parcel of the Supreme, but we are now separated. The same example: This finger is part and parcel of your body, but if it is separated, amputated, it has no value. But so long it is joined with this body, its value is millions of dollars, or more than that.
If there is any disease, you can spend any amount to cure. Similarly, we, at the present moment in the conditioned state of material existence, we are separated from God. Therefore we are so much reluctant to speak of God, to understand about God, our relationship with God. We think it is simply waste of time.

**Mālatī:* [introducing recording] This lecture was recorded in Gorakhpur, U.P., India, on the evening of February 14th, 1970 [sic].Prabhupāda: *Ataeva śruti kahe brahma-saviśeṣa* [[cc/madhya/6/151|[Cc. Madhya 6.151] ]]: God, Brahma, the great. *Brahma* means the great. *Bṛhatvād bṛhannatvāt.* The Absolute Truth is the great and can expand also unlimitedly.
*Advaitam acyutam anādim ananta-rūpam* [Bs. 5.33]*. Rūpam:* He has got His transcendental forms, *ananta,* unlimited. But they are all one. *Advaitam acyutam anādim ananta-rūpam. Ādyam,* the original; *purāṇa,* the oldest; *puruṣam,* person. *Advaitam acyutam anādim ananta-rūpam.*
Although He has got innumerable forms, they are *advaita,* they are one. *Advaitam acyutam anādim ananta-rūpam**Ādyam,* original; *purāṇa,* the oldest; and *puruṣam,* the person. *Nava-yauvanam.* The oldest, but *nava-yauvana,* just beginning of youthful life. That is the description in the *Brahma-saṁhitā.*

**Prabhupāda:** > [break] kuñja-vihārī > gopī-jana-vallabha giri-vara-dhārī > yasoda-nandana braja-jana-rañjana > yamunā-tīra-vana-cārī
[break] This is actual picture of Kṛṣṇa, *rādhā-mādhava giri-vara-dhārī.* Original Kṛṣṇa this is. *Rādhā-mādhava* *giri-vara-dhārī. Vraja-jana-vallabha.* His business is to please the inhabitants of Vṛndāvana. That's all. He has no other business. And the *vraja-jana* also, they have no other business than to please Kṛṣṇa.
That's all. This is original Kṛṣṇa. *Vraja-jana-vallabha giri-vara-dhārī.* And first business is Rādhā-Mādhava. Of course, Kṛṣṇa is concerned with everyone, especially concerned with Rādhārāṇī. *Rādhā-mādhava* *kuñja-bihārī,* and He enjoys with Rādhā in different *kuñjas,* bushes, of Vṛndāvana.

**Prabhupāda:** > svayambhūr nāradaḥ śambhuḥ > kumāraḥ kapilo manuḥ > prahlādo janako bhīṣmo > balir vaiyāsakir vayam > [[sb/6/3/20|[SB. 6.3.20] ]]
So the science of Kṛṣṇa is very difficult to understand. *Durbodham. Durbodham. Durbodham* means very, very difficult to understand. Therefore you have to approach the *mahājanas.* People, they try to understand which is impossible to understand by their own effort. That is a great mistake. Therefore this very word is used, *durbodham.* What is religion and what is God, that is very, very difficult to understand.

**Prabhupāda:** > ...pārtha > yogaṁ yuñjan mad-āśrayaḥ > asaṁśayaṁ samagraṁ māṁ > yathā jñāsyasi tac chṛṇu > [[bg/7/1|[Bg. 7.1] ]]
Mr. Justice [indistinct] Swami, Ladies and Gentlemen, first of all, I thank you very much for kindly coming here and participating in this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement. As I have already explained last night, that originally we are all Kṛṣṇa conscious. Just like each of..., each of every one of us is conscious of our father. Everyone knows, "I am the son of such-and-such gentleman.''
Similarly, originally we were all Kṛṣṇa conscious, originally, because Kṛṣṇa said that *mamaivāṁso jīva bhūta* *[[bg/15/7|[Bg. 15.7] ]]: "All the living entities, they are My part and parcel.'' In another place Kṛṣṇa said, *aham bīja-pradaḥ pitā*. *Sarva-yoniṣu kaunteya* [[bg/14/4|[Bg. 14.4] ]].

**[[spoken/730214le.syd|Lecture — February 14, 1973, Sydney]]**
**Prabhupāda:** ...to God it is the king of all knowledge, *rāja-vidyā*. Because it is our constitutional position, normal life, to serve Kṛṣṇa. We are part and parcel of Kṛṣṇa. Just like part and parcel of my body—what they are meant for? Just like this finger is the part and parcel of my body. And what is the business of the finger? The business of the finger is to serve this whole body. Now, I have got some pain in this finger, so it is not working—abnormal condition. Normal condition, there is all right. This is normal condition: as soon as I say, "Finger, please come here; do like this," it will do it. And abnormal condition: there is some pain; I cannot use it.
So the conclusion is, we living entities, we being part and parcel of God, Kṛṣṇa, our only business is to serve Kṛṣṇa. We have no other business. As soon as we are engaged in other business, that is our abnormal condition. That is not normal condition. Just like this finger is not serving me, but it is serving some medicine from doctor, from the other, so that service is not very palatable. If any part of my body is engaged in service..., in giving service to the physician, that is not very palatable. But in healthy condition, when the parts and parcels of the body give service to the healthy body, that is very nice. That is pleasing.
So this is very simple thing. *Mamaivāṁśaḥ jīva-bhūta*. They, all the living entity, they are part and parcel, sample God. They are claiming... Last night some boy was claiming that he is God. He is God—he is sample God, not the original God. This *dvaita-vāda, acintya bhedābheda*,

**Prabhupāda:** ...even those who are farmers [indistinct]. In India also. As soon as they get some education, they don't want to be a farmer.
**Prabhupāda:** Yes. They will be satisfied to become a petty clerk and get some very little income. They will be satisfied. They don't want to be... *Śūdra*. That is the real *śūdra*. They are satisfied simply by eating, that's all. No ambition.
**Gurudāsa:** So somehow or other we have to attract some *śūdras* to our movement if we want to work self-sufficiently.

**Translation:** "Prahlāda Mahārāja thus fixed up in his mind with full attention; the mind and sight, everything was placed in complete trance. Thus, on account of love, he began to offer his prayer in faltering voice."

**Tamāla Kṛṣṇa:** They're simply creating some, you know, problems, making propaganda against our society.
**Tamāla Kṛṣṇa:** So many people now are being forced to take our side and defend us. So many... All the intelligent people of the country, they are supporting us.
**Brahmānanda:** Recently there was a big conference of all the lawyers, and they were all indirectly supporting our position. They just wanted to advertise this big controversy. They say that this controversy is the most important issue of the 1970s. Just like in the 1960s, the Vietnam War was a big issue. So it's becoming very important.

**[[spoken/770214r2.may|Room Conversation Varṇāśrama System Must Be Introduced — February 14, 1977, Māyāpur]]**
**Prabhupāda:** These things were not going nicely. Therefore gradually it broke. But if things are going nicely, people will be happy. They will not revolt. You have to keep the citizens satisfied in all respects. You must know the necessity how people are satisfied. You have to arrange the government in that way. Then there will be no revolution. Mass of people, if they are satisfied, they will not revolt. But they do not know the process. The "demoncracy," the common man is allowed to vote. He has no knowledge, and he's voting. This is most condemned process. *Camara-bhangi,* a sweeper, he is voted to become Minister of Defense. His business is to cleanse the street, and now he's voted to become, because he has got number of votes. So many *bhaṅgis,* they vote, "Yes, he is our leader. He should be Defense Minister." You have to do that. This is democracy. His business is to sweep, and he's voted a defense minister.
**Prabhupāda:** What educated? Educated means hippies. That's all. This is their education. They do not know what is meant by education. Education... University student was informed that "Next birth you may become a dog," so he said, "What is the wrong there?" This is education. Is that education, that he agrees to become a dog very happily? There is no education. Simply waste of time.
**Satsvarūpa:** But at least if there is extreme exploitation by a king or dictator, it can't be changed. But the people...

**Prabhupāda:** ...son begotten by Lord Śiva in the womb of Pārvatī, he'll be able to conquer over the demons. Kārttikeya. You have heard the name of Kārttikeya? So the wife of Lord Śiva, Dākṣāyaṇī, committed suicide in the *Dakṣa yajña.* She heard blaspheming her husband, so immediately she gave up her body: "My father, you have given this body; therefore you are claiming so much from me. I give up this body." So he gave up his body, and the next birth she was born as the daughter of Himalayan king, Pārvatī. And after her death as the daughter of Dakṣa Mahārāja, Lord Śiva was engaged in meditation, very deep meditation. Now the problem was how to wake up Lord Śiva from meditation and engage him again with Pārvatī. Nobody dared. So the Pārvatī was engaged to worship the genital of Lord Śiva. He was in meditation, and he could not be awakened. Kālīdāsa Kavi is giving remark that "Here is *dhīra.* Here is *dhīra.* A young girl touching the genital of Lord Śiva, and he is not agitated." *Adhīra. Dhīra* means there is cause of agitation, but one is not agitated. That is called *dhīra.* And *adhīra,* everyone. There is cause of agitation in so many ways. Our, this movement, *kṛṣṇotkīrtana-gāna-nartana-parau,* if we remain engaged in *kṛṣṇotkīrtana-gāna-nartana-parau,* then *dhīrādhīra-jana-priyau* [*Śrīnivāsa Ācārya, *Ṣad-gosvāmī-aṣṭaka. Aṣṭaka* 1].*
Both the *dhīra* and *adhīra* will enjoy this *kṛṣṇa-kīr**tana.* This our movement is for the *dhīra.* And *adhīra* also, if he joins this movement, even *adhīra* also becomes *dhīra.* This is the test. *Dhīrādhīra-jana-priyau priya-karau.*
So we should not be *adhīra.* That is the perfection of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. *Adhīra* means to remain in the material world. So long we are *adhīra,* there is no chance of going back home, back to Godhead. This is the *tapasya*—to remain *dhīra.* There are many causes of becoming *adhīra,* but the causes may not disturb us—then *dhīra. Dhīradhīra-jana-priyau priya-karau.* Haridāsa Ṭhākura, just like *dhīra.* There was cause, enough cause. He was young man, and a young prostitute, very beautiful, came at midnight and offered her body to Haridāsa Ṭhākura. He said, "Yes, very good proposal. You sit down. Let me finish my chanting. I shall enjoy." This is *dhīra.* For three nights she tried and failed, and she became surrendered: "Sir, this was my motive. I was sent by such-and-such person." Haridāsa Ṭhākura, "Yes, I knew all these things. I would have gone long ago, but you are innocent; your business is this. You came. So I wanted to try to do some good to you. So better you have come to your senses. Now you chant Hare Kṛṣṇa. I am leaving." So, *dhīra.*
