## Spoken on February 8
*Lectures from this day: 8 recordings*

**[1967: Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Ādi-līlā 7.66–76](spoken/1967/670208cc.sf)**
> The Lord says, "I know everything. I know." Unless He's cognizant, unless behind this mani..., cosmic manifestation, if there is no brain, if there is no cognizance, how nicely it can be made so regulation, I mean to say, timely, everything is working? The planets are working. Do you think there is no brain behind this? There must be. Therefore *Bhāgavata* says yes, *abhijñaḥ. Abhijñaḥ* means He's cognizant; He's not a fool. Therefore He's person. Cognizant is a person.
> That is explained in the *Bhagavad-gītā, bhūtvā bhūtvā pralīyate*. Bhūtvā bhūtvā pralīyate.* All this thing, whatever material, that manifests, it comes out, it is manifested. It... Just like bubbles in the ocean. There are millions and millions bubbles created one second, and next second it is finished. So *janmādy asya yataḥ.* But this is the manifestation of material creation. Behind this, the, this spirit is there. Therefore that spirit is Brahman. In this way...

**[1969: Bhagavad-gītā 5.17–25](spoken/1969/690208bg.la)**
> Therefore the method should be that we should *sadā tad-bhāva-bhāvitaḥ*. Twenty-four hours, we shall remain in Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Even death takes place, you are not loser. That's all. You are gainer here; you are gainer there, after death. *Sādhu māro vā jīvo vā.* Those who are *sādhu,* devotees, they either live or die—their benefit is there. When they live, they chant, dance, and eat Kṛṣṇa *prasāda,* enjoy, and when they die, they go to Kṛṣṇa. That's all. Where is the loss? There is no loss. So keep yourself *sādhu. Sādhu. Sādhu* means saintly.
> So try to keep yourself always in Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Then you are safe in any circumstance. So we should mold our life in such a way that we cannot go out of the orbit of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Always thinking of Kṛṣṇa, that's all. Either you become a carpenter of the temple, or a gardener of the temple, or a cooker of the temple, or a typewriter of the temple, or a tape recorder of the temple—anything, because it is in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, therefore you are safe, because you are thinking of Kṛṣṇa. That is required, *sadā tad-bhāva-bhāvitaḥ* Always thinking of Kṛṣṇa, any way, this way or that way. That is meditation; that is trance; that is everything. Yes.
---
**[1974: Bhagavad-gītā 4.2](spoken/1974/740208bg.vrn)**
> That *bhakti-yoga*, Kṛṣṇa says one side Kṛṣṇa is giving us the lesson from the Vedic literature, *Anādi-bahirmukha jīva kṛṣṇa bhuli' gela*. *Anādi*, from time immemorial, they have forgotten Kṛṣṇa, *ataeva kṛṣṇa veda-purāṇa kailā*. Therefore Kṛṣṇa has given us these literatures. Kṛṣṇa-dvaipāyana Vyāsa. Vyāsadeva's name is Kṛṣṇa-dvaipāyana Vyāsa. So we should take opportunity. There must be *kṛṣṇa-saṅga* to read from these books, to understand from these books, and the correct information from these books can be had by this process that Kṛṣṇa is recommending, what is that? *Evaṁ paramparā-prāptam*. These literatures should be understood by the *paramparā* system. Just like Kṛṣṇa says I told to Vivasvān, the Sungod, he told his favorite son, Manu. Then Manu said to his favorite son, because unless the son or the disciple is not very good recipient then what is the use of talking? What is the use of talking. There must be also nice receiver. That is not *paramparā* system. So,
> You have come to Vṛndāvana to see, that if you have got *viṣaya,* then you are blind; you cannot see. That is not possible. *Viṣaya chāṛiyā. Viṣaya* means this *āhāra-nidrā-bhaya-maithunaṁ ca*[*Hitopadeśa* 25]: eating, sleeping, mating and defending. When... Therefore Vṛndāvana is meant for the *paramahaṁsa,* like the *gosvamis*. But we think that coming to Vṛndāvana we become *Gosvāmī*. But those who are thinking like that, "Simply by coming to Vṛndāvana I have become *Gosvāmī,*" and cheating like cats and dogs, they are Vṛndāvana's dogs. They, such persons who want to enjoy material facilities in Vṛndāvana, then next life will take birth as monkey and the pig and the dog. Then? "I'm in Vṛndāvana. [indistinct] is false." No, it is not false. After this birth you will be delivered. But because he treated himself as cats and dogs, therefore he has to take the birth of dogs, pigs, and like that, monkeys, and then next birth. So we don't think that the Vṛndāvana's dogs, monkeys and pigs, they are ordinary living beings. They are also Vaiṣṇava, but due to their animal propensity they took another life. Material nature is so strong, *daivī hy eṣā guṇa-mayī*. But this one life—you see—that is there for punishment; no more. That is their advantage. Therefore you see there are many devotees in Vṛndāvana, but still... So this is [indistinct]. So,

> The Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava, Caitanya Mahāprabhu, have got their temple. I expected that you must have, Americans. [indistinct] But if it is not possible, then it is *patraṁ puṣpaṁ* with picture, that's all. There is no question of stoppage. *Ahaituky apratihatā*. Devotional service cannot be stopped in any circumstances.* [Cross talk from other audio recording fades in and out until end]. So my first business is to see that somehow or other the temple is complete. Then we shall see whether there is Deity or there is dress. If in the meantime it is possible, you do. And if there is no means, then you cannot take from the construction. This is my point. Is that clear? Yes. And so far money is concerned, whatever money is there, then you'll spend everything for temple, not for other things. Therefore I am trying to minimize as much as possible, and necessity must be there. Otherwise that money is for this Vṛndāvana, the construction and maintenance. Now I want to finish this. [long pause] So do like that. Is that all right?

**[1974: Room Conversation](spoken/1974/740208r2.vrn)**
> Kṛṣṇa... If ordinary human being or living entity, he does not die, he is ever-existing—and every living entity is part and parcel of Kṛṣṇa—how there can be death of Kṛṣṇa or birth of Kṛṣṇa? If the part and parcel of Kṛṣṇa they are *na hanyate hanyamāne śarīre*, how Kṛṣṇa can die and again take birth? Therefore *janma karma me divyam*. They are all transcendental subject matters. One has to know from the right source; then these questions will be answered.
> Kṛṣṇa is always there. Kṛṣṇa is not within the time limit—five thousand years or this years or that years. No. Just like for us today is 8th February, 1973..., '74—but not for the sun. Our days are changing; the sun is brilliant always. There is no darkness, there is no night. Is it not? Is it not a fact? So where is the past, present, future for the sun? Past, present, future for you, not for the sun. Our date has changed, eh, from 7th February to 8th February, but the sun is not changing dates. Is it not? So if the sun, the creation of Kṛṣṇa, is not changing date, how Kṛṣṇa can change His date? We require little common sense. Sun is one of the creation of Kṛṣṇa. The sun is not changing date, so how Kṛṣṇa can change? Because we change date, therefore we are asking about Kṛṣṇa like that, because we are thinking that Kṛṣṇa may be like us. *Avajānanti māṁ mūḍhā mānuṣīṁ tanum āśritam* :
---
**[1975: Bhagavad-gītā 16.13–15](spoken/1975/750208bg.hon)**
> "You work for performing sacrifice." Performing sacrifice. Sacrifice, *yajña... Yajña* means to satisfy the Supreme. That is sacrifice. I sacrifice my own convenience. I take all kinds of troubles... There is no trouble; it is pleasure. Just like the mother takes all kinds of trouble for the little child, but she does not think that is trouble. That is pleasure. When you do something out of love, that is pleasure. That is not trouble. In the transcendental platform, devotional service, anything you do, that is pleasure. That is not trouble. Just like you are dancing here. Actually, bodily, there is some trouble because you are perspiring, but you are not feeling the trouble; you are feeling pleasure. Otherwise how you can dance? This is the transcendental platform. So the demons are bound up by material desires, and the devotees, apparently there is desire, but there is no bondage. This is the difference. There is no bondage. *Sarvopādhi-vinirmuktaṁ tat-paratvena nirmalam*.
> So the Māyāvādī philosophers, they cannot understand. They are thinking that "Why these people are taking so much trouble, dancing, jumping?" They cannot under... Therefore they feel displeasure. They feel disturbance, because they are not purified. So *āśā-pāśa-śatair baddhāḥ*. The demonic principle is to become bound up by their desires, but if you are on the spiritual platform, then all your desires means loving service to the Lord. That is wanted. So the demons' desires is described here. There is nothing to be explained. We have got practical experience in the material world. They are always thinking, *idam adya mayā labdham:* "Now, today I have earned five hundred dollars," or something more or less. *Mayā labdham* means "I have got it." *Imaṁ prāpsye manoratham:* "Again I shall get tomorrow so much money, and my bank balance will increase to such and such strength." "I got so much, and so much will be added, and the balance will increase." *Idaṁ me bhaviṣyati punar dhanam:* "In this way I will increase the amount of my wealth more and more." There is no question of "How much love I have increased for Kṛṣṇa." That is *bhakta, bhakti.* But where there is no *bhakti,* they are thinking of this material increase.
---
**[1976: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 7.9.1](spoken/1976/760208sb.may)**
> So the anger is there, Kṛṣṇa, but His anger is worshiped. And our anger is different. That is the distinction between spirit and matter. So here, *surādayaḥ sarve brahma-rudra-puraḥ sarāḥ na upaitum aśakan manyu.* There is anger. Kṛṣṇa, to kill Hiraṇyakaśipu, He became so angry that even big, big stalwart demigods, *brahmādaya...* Because demigods... The list of demigods begins from Lord Brahmā. He is the original father of the demigods and all other living entities. He's therefore known as *prajā-pati* or called *pitā-maha,* grandfather, *prajā-pati.* He is the origin of everything. The Darwin's theory, a rascal theory, that there was no life, but according to Vedic knowledge there were the best life: Brahmā. From there begins life, and gradually they become degraded, material contamination. Not that there was no life; from low type of living condition one is elevated higher and higher. That is a wrong theory. The real theory is that life begins from the most exalted person, Lord Brahmā, *prajā-pati.* So in any auspicious matter they are forward, because you cannot approach God in your lower condition of life. Hmm? Lower condition of life means sinful reaction. In that condition you cannot approach God. *Paraṁ brahma paraṁ dhāma pavitraṁ paramaṁ bhavān*.
> Āruhya kṛcchreṇa,* by severe austerities and penances, you can rise up to the impersonal Brahman, but you'll fall down again. That is the fact. So many persons, they are trying to become merged into the existence of the Supreme Brahman, but the result is they are falling down. They must fall down. It is not possible. *Āruhya kṛcchreṇa paraṁ padaṁ tataḥ patanty adho anādṛta-yuṣmad-aṅghrayaḥ*. Without taking care to worship the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa, they are falling down. So we should be very, very careful not to try to become equal or greater than Kṛṣṇa. There are some rascals, they say that "Such and such rascal is greater than Kṛṣṇa." I do not wish to mention their name. That rascals, they say that "Aurobindo is greater than Kṛṣṇa." They say like that. Do you know that? So this, the world, is full of rascals and fools. We have to... Very cautiously and intelligently we have to make progress in spiritual life. Don't take it very insignificantly or.. We should be very much careful. Otherwise there is falldown, and once falldown means a gap of millions of years. You have got this human form of life to complete Kṛṣṇa consciousness, but if you are not serious, then again the gap will be millions of years.

**[1977: Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Gosvāmī Prabhupāda's Appearance Day Lecture](spoken/1977/770208ba.may)**
> So for Vaiṣṇava it is not like that. It is not like that. *Na hanyate hanyamāne śarīre*. This is material calculation: one hour lost, two hours lost. The body's life is transient; it is losing one moment, one hour. But spiritual life is different. *Nityaḥ śāśvato yam, na hanyate hanyamāne śarīre.* So, as Kṛṣṇa comes, *yadā yadā hi dharmasya glānir bhavati bhārata tadātmānaṁ sṛjāmy aham*. Kṛṣṇa is eternal, but still, He appears. The same example: just like the sun is in the sky, but we see in the morning it appears; in the evening it retires. That is defectness of our eyes. Actually the sun is always there. So similarly Vaiṣṇava, as Kṛṣṇa comes, *yadā yadā hi dharmasya glānir,* similarly, a Vaiṣṇava—means the confidential servant of Kṛṣṇa—he also comes for some purpose by the order of the master. So their life and Kṛṣṇa's life, it is same. There is no question of past, present, future. *Nityaḥ. Nityaḥ śāśvato 'yam, na hanyate hanyamāne śarīre*.
> After many, many evolution, millions of years, we get this chance of human being, to become human being. But in this human form of life, if we still remain a *mūḍha,* then we are *vimūḍhān. Vimūḍhān* means..., *vi* means *viśeṣa.* Here is a chance. And Kṛṣṇa personally is giving His instruction to the human being: *sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja*. This is the chance. But still, we are not accepting. Therefore *vimūḍhān. Mūḍha,* the cats and dogs, they cannot understand. If we give instruction to the dog, "My dear dog, chant Hare Kṛṣṇa, talk Kṛṣṇa." But a human being, either he may be known to Kṛṣṇa or not known to Kṛṣṇa, he can be trained up. Just like in your country, in Europe and America, they did not know even what Kṛṣṇa. But since we have started this movement, Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement, you have become so many devotees of Kṛṣṇa. That is possible because human being; they can be trained up.
