**Prabhupāda:** ...means a broader heart. They are not satisfied simply by his personal comfort. In political history also, you will find so many great leaders, they sacrificed their own comforts. In your country there was George Washington. He sacrificed so many. There were other leaders. In every country, in political field.
Similarly, social field also. Even the political leaders, the Marx, they also..., he was also compassionate by seeing the terrible condition of the Russian peasants, so he started that Communist movement. That is the way. Great men, they work for the general mass of people. They are not... That is their greatness.
So Advaita Prabhu, when He found that people are simply engaged in eating, sleeping, and they are not..., they have no concern with Kṛṣṇa, and their life is being spoiled, so He wanted to start this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement, say, about six hundred years ago. But He considered Himself as unable to take up this movement seriously, because the condition of the people was so wretched. He thought that "If Kṛṣṇa Himself comes, then it can be done. Otherwise it is not possible." So Advaita Prabhu called Caitanya Mahāprabhu. And Caitanya Mahāprabhu, by His call, He appeared, Kṛṣṇa appeared.

**Prabhupāda:** > imaṁ vivasvate yogaṁ > proktavān aham avyayam > vivasvān manave prāha > manur ikṣvākave 'bravīt > [[bg/4/1|[Bg. 4.1] ]]
Yesterday this *yoga* system... Anything attempting to understand the Absolute Truth, it is called *yoga, yoga* system, mainly. This *Bhagavad-gītā* is *bhakti-yoga*. It is a conversation between the Lord and the devotee. Arjuna is a devotee, and Kṛṣṇa is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. So when there is serious conversation between the devotee and the Supreme Personality of Godhead, then what should be the subject matter of conversation? Suppose if a big businessman is talking with his secretary seriously, so anyone can suggest what is the subject matter of this conversation. It must be about business. When a big businessman, talking with his business secretary, what would be the subject matter of the talking? It must be business. Similarly, *bhakti* means the transaction between the Lord and the devotee. *Bhakti* is the dealings: *sambandha, abhidheya, prayojana*.
The whole Vedic system as propounded by Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu is *sambandha, abhidheya* and *prayojana*. Actually, as it is stated in the *Bhagavad-gītā*, *vedaiś ca sarvair aham eva vedyaḥ* [[bg/15/15|[Bg. 15.15] ]]: "The Vedic subject matter is to understand Kṛṣṇa." And who can understand Kṛṣṇa? That is explained by Kṛṣṇa: *bahunam janmanam ant...,* er,

**Nitāi:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya. **O**ṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* [devotees repeat] Chapter Sixteen, text 11 and 12. [leads chanting of verses, etc.]
"They believe that to gratify the senses unto the end of life is the prime necessity of human civilization. Thus there is no end to their anxiety. Being bound by hundreds and thousands of desires, by lust and anger, they secure money by illegal means for sense gratification."
**Prabhupāda:** > cintām aparimeyāṁ ca > pralayāntām upāśritāḥ > kāmopabhoga-paramā > etāvad iti niścitāḥ

**Prabhupāda:** *Mattaḥ smṛtir jñānam apohanaṁ ca *[[bg/15/15|[Bg. 15.15] ]]. We can submit to Kṛṣṇa. So if Kṛṣṇa's..., for Kṛṣṇa's service we submit some plan, He is very glad. You wanted some flower for Kṛṣṇa's service, Kṛṣṇa is giving us. Everything we wanted for Kṛṣṇa, not for our sense gratification. Then it is...
[break] ...*Kṛṣṇārthe* *akhila-ceṣṭā*. For Kṛṣṇa you can endeavor multifariously. That is wanted. That is the contribution of Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī. Before that, Vaiṣṇavas, they used to live retired life in Vṛndāvana or some other place—no preaching activities. This is the first attempt. Of course, Caitanya Mahāprabhu did it, but for the practical sake how we can serve Kṛṣṇa even sitting on big, big buildings and on motorcars we can serve Kṛṣṇa, that is introduced by Bhaktisiddhānta. Otherwise, people were afraid of becoming Vaiṣṇava: "Oh, I'll have to live underneath a tree like Rūpa Gosvāmī." Some of them will imitate like that. Imitation is no good. Rūpa Gosvāmī never said imitation.
