**[1971: Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta 6.124 with Hanuman Prasad Poddar [Hindi translated into English](spoken/1971/710203cc.gor)**
> Jīvera asthi-viṣṭhā dui saṅkha-gomaya.* For example, the stool and bone of a man or an animal are considered impure according to our Vedic rules. Just like when we pass stool in the morning immediately we take a bath. Although it is our stool but because we have touched it our body has become impure. We all know this. Therefore we take a bath to purify ourselves. Similarly while walking in the street if we touch a bone we should take bath. This is scriptural prescription. Caitanya Mahāprabhu is presenting these evidences. *Jīvera asthi-viṣṭha dui saṅkha-gomaya*. Saṅkha which we blow in the temple of the Supreme Lord is *asthi* or bone of an animal, and *gobar* or cow *dung* is *viṣṭha* or stool of an animal. *Śruti vākye-sei dui mahā-pavitra haya*. The Vedas declare these two items as pure. Conch-shell is a bone, but if anyone interprets that bone is considered impure and stool is also impure. But how do the Vedas say that cow dung is pure and conch-shell is also pure? How can we accept? But we do accept. The whole Hindu community accepts the Vedic injunctions. Cow dung is smeared on the body of the Supreme Lord and conch-shell is blown after the *ārati* offered to the Lord. So if we bring in logic into consideration that how can the bone and stool be pure? It's impossible. Then that logic will not work. Generally in our daily life we accept things as pure which are recommended by the Vedas. The point of Caitanya Mahāprabhu's statement is that we should accept Vedic injunctions like that. We should neither argue nor comment on that.
> Prabhu kahe*,-"*sūtrera artha bujhiye nirmala.* Caitanya Mahāprabhu replied, Mahārāja, I can very easily understand the meaning of the *sūtras* you are quoting. But I cannot understand anything about your explanation. The meaning of the *sūtras* I can understand. What is the difficulty of understanding clear statements. *Aathāto brahma jijñāsā.* Now in the human form of life one should inquire about what is Brahma: Absolute truth. Everyone can understand this. The answer is given, *janmādy asya yataḥ*: the Absolute truth is that from which everything emanates.* Everyone understands this. Caitanya Mahāprabhu also understands it. Therefore He said that the meaning of the *sūtras* is very simple and I can understand it. But the way you explain it is completely different. I can't understand it. *Prabhu kahe,-"sūtrera artha bujhiye nirmala*. *Nirmala* means very clear. I can understand the meaning of the *sūtras* very clearly without any doubt.

> The Supreme Personality of Godhead, the son of Nanda Mahārāja, is to be worshiped along with His transcendental abode, Vṛndāvana. The most pleasing form of worship for the Lord is that which was performed by the *gopīs* of Vṛndāvaṇa. *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam* is the spotless authority on everything, and pure love of God is the ultimate goal of life for all men. These statements, for which we have the highest regard, are the opinion of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu.* [Transl. There is no higher worship than that.]
> lokānāṁ hita-kāriṇau* [Transl. The lives of the *sādhus* and *vaiṣṇavas* are meant for *para-upakāra*: doing welfare for others.] *patitānāṁ pāvanebhyo vaiṣṇavebhyo namo namaḥ* [Śrī vaiṣṇava praṇati.]

**[1971: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 6.3.12](spoken/1971/710203sb.gor)**
> This impersonal Brahman effulgence, which is spread everywhere, *mayā tatam idaṁ sarvaṁ*, although Kṛṣṇa says *mayā,* "by Me," "by Me" does not mean that..., *brahma-jyoti* means that Kṛṣṇa has become vanquished; there is no more Kṛṣṇa. The Māyāvādī philosophy is based on this understanding, that if the Absolute Truth is spread everywhere, so there is no question of the Absolute Truth becoming a person. They cannot adjust like that, although Kṛṣṇa personally says that *brahmaṇo aham pratiṣṭhāham* : "I am the source, or the strength, or the platform from which the *brahma-jyoti* is emanating."
> Harāv abhaktasya.* The one who is not devotee of Kṛṣṇa, he has no good qualification. Why? Because they are moving on mental platform: "I shall enjoy." But he is not enjoyer. Any one of us, are we enjoyer actually? We are not enjoyer; we are servant. Therefore Caitanya Mahāprabhu's philosophy is *jīvera 'svarūpa' haya—'nitya kṛṣṇa -dāsa'*.
---
**[1975: Bhagavad-gītā 16.7](spoken/1975/750203bg.hon)**
> So Kṛṣṇa says... This is called theism, believing in the *śāstra.* Any *śāstra.* It doesn't mean that simply... All *śāstras,* according to time, circumstances, people, there're different *śāstras.* The Bible is also *śāstra.* Koran is also *śāstra* as much as... But they are spoken according to the time, according to the circumstances. Just like in the Bible, the first injunction is "Thou shall not kill." This means the people were, in those days, at least people who were all around Christ, they were very much expert in killing. Otherwise why he says first, "Thou shall not kill"? So this injunction must be followed. Unfortunately, they first of all killed Jesus Christ: "You are speaking 'Thou shall not kill'? I shall kill you." Just see. This is the position. "So what is my fault you want to kill me?" "Because you are speaking of God; therefore we shall kill you." And actually, it actually happened. This is demonic.
> So Kṛṣṇa says... Kṛṣṇa did not say *Bhagavad-gītā* to the loafer class. Kṛṣṇa said *rājarṣi.* Arjuna was a *rājarṣi.* So there are... Because king would take responsibility. If the head man is taught very nicely everything about society, economic development and religion, if he is taught very nicely, then he can, I mean to say, introduce the ideas in the country. Therefore there was monarchy. The king would learn from the *brāhmaṇas* how to rule over the citizens. That was perfect. *Imaṁ rājarṣayo viduḥ. Rāja* and *ṛṣi.* Or *rāja* means king and *ṛṣi* means saintly person. So either the *ṛṣis* did know or the kings did know. Or a king who is not less than a *ṛṣi,* he could know and he could rule over. That is the Vedic injunction. *Imaṁ rājarṣayo viduḥ.* But without being *rājarṣi,* without being highly qualified, nobody can understand.

> This is our business. We know they are all rascals, but they are thinking that "We know so many things. We are learned scholars." So humbly approach them and flattering, that "You are so nice man, such a learned scholar." Just like a child is flattered, "My dear boy, you are such a nice boy. You take these lozenges and return me the hundred dollar note. Don't spoil it. You are such a good boy, yes." This is our... Therefore to approach these rascals we have to learn *tṛṇād api sunīcena taror api sahiṣṇunā* [*Cc Ādi* 17.31, *Śikṣāṣṭaka* 3].
> That is the preaching method. Everyone is puffed up. Even most insignificant man, he is also puffed up: "Oh, I am so rich man, I know everything. I have got so much bank balance. These poor fellows, they cannot earn livelihood; therefore they have become Vaiṣṇavas." This is their policy. [break] You immediately print 100,000, that *Scientific Basis.*

> That's a *guru.* Why don't you see all these instructions? And you are presenting yourself as following Caitanya Mahāprabhu? Why? Answer. Why you remain fool and rascal? If you want to remain fool and rascal and question, that is not very good. You must know who is *guru*. And you say, "I do not know who is *guru*." Why? Hmm? What is the answer? *Guru* is defined by Caitanya Mahāprabhu. We are chanting daily, *śrī kṛṣṇa caitanya prabhu nityānanda śrī advaita gadādhara śrī...* Take their lesson. Otherwise why you are praying, *śrī kṛṣṇa caitanya prabhu nityānanda*? You, rather, glorify Hitler or Mussolini. Make them *guru*. Everything is there. You cannot say that "I do not understand." Do not understand means you do not take. What is the...? All right? [laughter]
