# January 28 ## Spoken on January 28 *Lectures from this day: 7 recordings* --- **[1973: The Nectar of Devotion](spoken/1973/730128nd.cal)** > So long we are in dirty heart, dirty, polluted mind, there is no question of anxiety-less. That is required. *Brahma-bhūtaḥ prasannātmā*. One who is God-realized, one who is advanced in spiritual life, he will be anxiety-less, *prasannātmā. Evaṁ prasanna-manaso bhagavad-bhakti-yogataḥ*. Bhagavad-bhakti-yoga,* one who is practicing *Bhagavad-yoga,* then this is the verdict of *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.* That is the verdict of Caitanya Mahāprabhu. *Ceto-darpaṇa-mārjanam*. > So everything is there for our knowledge, provided we follow. So there is no difficulty. Therefore our process is *mahājana yena gataḥ sa panthāḥ*. Dharmasya tattvaṁ nihitaṁ guhāyām.* We cannot manufacture our ways. We must follow the footsteps of predecessors. That is our business. *Mahājana yena gataḥ sa panthāḥ. Dharmasya tattvaṁ nihitaṁ guhāyām.* By argument, by scholarship or by becoming philosopher, one cannot make any progress, unless he follows the great *ācāryas,* predecessors, strictly. Otherwise it is not possible. --- **[1974: Initiation Lecture](spoken/1974/740128in.hon)** > Eating, sleeping, mating and fearing, this is in every life. There is no exception. So in this life, human life, if you are actually serious, restrict. Then life is successful. So, your name is... > The sixteen rounds must be chanted. Rise early in the morning, go... All the duties must be done. *Tat-tat-karma-pravartanāt*. *Sato vṛtteḥ*, and one must be very honest, not dishonest. Dishonest men cannot go to back to home, back to Godhead. That is false. God is pure. One must be very, very pure. A thing which is not fire, it cannot be allowed to enter into the fire. One must become fire; then there is no trouble. Fire can enter fire. So, *sato vṛtteḥ sādhu-saṅga*, and always keep company with devotees. Don't keep company with nondevotee. Then it..., everything will be spoiled. *Sato vṛtteḥ, sādhu-saṅga*, *ṣaḍbhir bhaktiḥ*. *Saḍbhir*, six. *Utsāhāt, dhairyāt*, *niścayāt*, firm conviction. *Utsāhāt, dhairyāt*, *niścayāt*, *tat-tat-karma-pravartanāt*, *sato vṛtteḥ sādhu-saṅga* [*Upadeśāmṛta* 3]. Six. If you keep these six principles always before you, you'll never fail; you'll make progress. Thank you very much. --- **[1974: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.16.35](spoken/1974/740128sb.hon)** > Whatever we are getting for our sense enjoyment, that is with the sanction, sanction of the *puruṣa,* the Supreme Person. The *paramātmā* feature is *madhyama puruṣa.* He is *purusottama. Puruṣottama* is the Supreme Person, and the Supreme Person by His expansion as the Supersoul is present in everyone's heart. *Īśvaraḥ sarva-bhūtānām.* He's guiding, as friend. He's guiding as friend, but He speaks directly with the living entity as soon as we are purified by devotional service. *Teṣāṁ satata-yuktānāṁ bhajatāṁ prīti-pūrvakam*.* That if..., that qualification we have to attain, then Kṛṣṇa, *puruṣottama,* will speak from within, just like He spoke from within of Brahma: *tene brahma hṛdā ādi-kavaye.* We have to become qualified to talk with the Supreme Person, and He will give us advice. He's giving us advice. He's ready to give us advice from within and from without—from within as Supersoul and from without as the spiritual master. Therefore it is said, *guru-kṛṣṇa-kṛpāya bhakti-latā-bīja*. > Therefore Kṛṣṇa comes, the *puruṣottama,* to take us back. "Why you are now covered, your shining is stopped? You are morose. You are suffering threefold miserable condition of material existence. Why you are rotting here?" *Sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja*. --- **[1975: Bhagavad-gītā 16.8](spoken/1975/750128bg.tok)** > So all these arrangements, there is no good brain behind it? How is that? But the *rākṣasas,* the demons, they will say, *asatyam apratiṣṭhaṁ te jagad āhur anīśvaram* : "There is no controller, and it is all false." False? So minute rules and regulation are being followed. The sun is rotating on the orbit in a such a perfect way that if the sun is inclined to this side or that side, there will be..., whole world will be frozen or in blazing fire. This is the scientific opinion. It must rotate according to the diagram given by some controller. That is stated in "By the order of the Supreme." *Yasyājñayā.* Here also, in the *Brahma-saṁhitā, yasyājñayā bhramati sambhṛta-kāla-cakraḥ.* The sun is rotating, *yasya ājñayā. Ājñayā* means "by order." > Bahūnāṁ janmanām ante jñānavān māṁ prapadyate*. Therefore this foolish class of men who are simply studying, they want time to find out, but actually if he is wise, if he is searching out regularly by wise conclusion, then, at some time, he will come to the conclusion, as it is stated in the *Bhagavad-gītā, bahūnāṁ janmanām ante:* after many births of research work, he will come to this conclusion that there is God, Vāsudeva. *Vāsudevaḥ sarvam iti sa mahātmā sudurlabhaḥ.* Then he is the first-class *mahātmā.* But that is very rare. Everyone is *durātmā, anīśvaram:* "There is no *īśvara.* This is a false manifestation." That is not false. You study everything. You study even one plant. You can see so many arrangement, so many fibers. Fine fibers are coming out, and from one fiber to another. Even a small herb and vegetable, you will find there is craftsmanship. You cannot say it is chance. You cannot do it. --- **[1977: Room Conversation](spoken/1977/770128r1.bhu)** --- ## Letters on January 28 *Letters from this day: 15* --- **[1969: Letter to Hansadutta](letters/1969/690128_hansadutta)** > From your letter I can understand that you will no longer be negotiating for purchasing the house, and this is all right because I do not think it is very suitable for a temple. --- **[1969: Letter to Krsna Dasa](letters/1969/690128_krsna_dasa)** > I am so pleased to know that Uttama Sloka and yourself are now working in the printer trade, and Sivananda is busily engaged in decorating the temple. --- **[1969: Letter to Malati](letters/1969/690128_malati)** > I am very much encouraged to learn that you are bold enough to challenge any nondevotee as you did with that impersonalist yoga student.
