So renouncement, simply giving up something, is not very good idea. You must have something better. *Paraṁ dṛṣṭvā nivartate* [[bg/2/59|[Bg. 2.59] ]].* If you get something better, then you give up something inferior. Our Vaiṣṇava philosophy, renouncement means renouncement of sense gratification. The Māyāvāda *sannyāsa* means *karma-tyāga,* simply reading *Vedānta* philosophy, *sāṅkhya* philosophy, and everything given up. But our Vaiṣṇava philosophy is giving up the wrong thing and accepting the right thing—side by side.
Simply if I give up, it will not stay very long time. If I simply by sentiment give up, *brahma satyaṁ jagan mithyā,* "This world is false and Brahman is the real, reality," so there are so many *sannyāsīs* we see, they give up the so-called *mithyā* world and come to the Brahman realization by meditation. By meditation, meditation... Then meditation means hospital and school. Because there is no Brahman, there is no reality. So after much meditation, comes to the conclusion that "Now I am a *sannyāsī.* I must open school, college and *daridra-nārāyaṇa sevā* and goat-*nārāyaṇa* killing." This kind of *sannyāsa* has no meaning. *Daridra-nārāyaṇa sevā,* by killing goat *nārāyaṇa.* Goat is not Nārāyaṇa; simply *daridras* are Nārāyaṇa. If you accept one as Nārāyaṇa, why should you not accept the other as Nārāyaṇa?
So this kind of false *sannyāsa* is not accepted by the Vaiṣṇavas. Vaiṣṇavas, they accept *sannyāsa* for better activities. For better activities means dedicated life for satisfying the Supreme Lord. *Mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja.* Anyone who has sacrificed his life for Kṛṣṇa, he's *sannyāsa.* That is stated in the *Bhagavad-gītā: anāśritaḥ karma-phalaṁ kāryaṁ karma karoti yaḥ, sa sannyāsī* [[bg/6/1|[Bg. 6.1] ]]. Na niragnir na cākriyaḥ.* One who has given up... A *sannyāsī* is not supposed to cook. *Ni..., niragniḥ.* And *na niragnir na yogī.* But *anāśritaḥ karma-phalam.*

**Prabhupāda:** Try to answer, children? Do you know what is Kṛṣṇa? Who can say? You say something about Kṛṣṇa?
**Prabhupāda:** Hmm. So, what does He do? Tell something about Kṛṣṇa. You have read *Kṛṣṇa* book? Huh?

**[[spoken/770126ad.pur|Evening Address to Paṇḍas and Scholars — January 26, 1977, Jagannātha Purī]]**
770126AD-Puri *[16:03 Minutes]*Indian man (1): ...Prabhupāda, who has been kind enough to grace this occasion wherein we have assembled this evening to pay our respectful homage to Atibāḍī Jagannātha dāsa Gosvāmī, who was a contemporary of Lord Caitanya.
**Prabhupāda:** ...introduce the Jagannātha Swami's culture. *Jagannātha svāmī nayana-pathagāmī bhavatu me.* [*Śrī Jagannāthāṣṭaka*]
You'll be very much pleased that in the year 1967 I introduced Ratha-yātrā in San Francisco. And it is going on continually for the last six or seven years, and the government, they have fixed up a holiday for Ratha-yātrā. We have got 20th July as government fixed-up day, holiday, for Ratha-yātrā. And people take part in the Ratha-yātrā—not all my devotees; even outsiders. Ten to twelve thousand people attend, and we distribute *prasādam* to all of them. They feel very much obliged. And the newspaper writes that "People in general never felt such ecstasy as they are feeling in the Ratha-yātrā festival." And the police said that the crowd... In the Western country, as soon as there is some big crowd, there is some disturbance. So police were surprised that "This crowd is not window-breaking crowd." And next we introduced Ratha-yātrā in London, in the London, Trafalgar Square. That is the most famous square within the city. And there is a big column. It is called...

**[[spoken/770126r1.pur|Conversation — January 26, 1977, Jagannātha Purī]]**
**Prabhupāda:** And whatever plan he's making, it will be all frustrated. That is the whole history. Big, big emperor, big, big politicians, they have tried. Roman Empire, the Carthaginian Empire, Greece Empire, Egyptian Empire and Mogul Empire, British Empire—all frustrated. It will never be successful. For a few days, hundred, two hundred years or five hundred years, it may go on. So real plan is how to become Kṛṣṇa conscious. Then everything is successful. *Ahaṅkāra-vimūḍhātmā kartāham iti manyate* [[bg/3/27|[Bg. 3.27] ]]. These rascals, on account of false prestigious position, trying to be happy without God. That is not possible. Throughout the history you study. So many rascals have tried—the Napoleon, the Hitler, the Gandhi, this, that. What they have achieved? Nothing. If we honestly study their lives and activities, what they have achieved? Hmm? Do you think they have achieved anything?
**Prabhupāda:** They simply wasted their time. *Śrama eva hi kevalam* [[sb/1/2/8|[SB. 1.2.8] ]]. Simply wasting time. Therefore this is the best service, to revive Kṛṣṇa consciousness for the human society and send them back home, back to Godhead. This is the best service.
**Prabhupāda:** He is also... He becomes recognized by the master: "Oh, he is trying for this, what I want." Naturally he becomes immediately recognized—although he has no qualification—if he tries. Therefore Caitanya Mahāprabhu... *Yāre dekha tāre kaha 'kṛṣṇa'-upadeśa* [[cc/madhya/7/128|[Cc. Madhya 7.128] ]]: "You become *guru.* No qualification required. Simply you repeat what Kṛṣṇa has said." Just see how simplified. Don't talk anything nonsense. *Yāre dekha tāre kaha 'kṛṣṇa'*—*bās.* So who cannot do it? Anyone can do it, even a child. [laughs] Our Śyāmasundara's daughter.
