**[1967: Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 25.36–40](spoken/1967/670123cc.sf)**
> So *avajānanti māṁ mūḍha mānuṣīṁ tanum āśritam*. In the *Bhagavad-gītā,* Lord Kṛṣṇa says, "Because I am here amongst the human being as a man, therefore those who are less intelligent, they are deriding at Me." *Avajānanti māṁ mūḍhā mānuṣīṁ tanum āśritam paraṁ bhāvam ajānanta.* "Why they deride? Because they do not know what is My background." *Paraṁ bhāvam. Paraṁ bhāvam ajānanta, sarva-bhūta-maheśvaram.* "They do not know that I am the Supreme Lord, and situated in everyone's heart. Because they do not know, therefore they deride at Me."
> Parābhavas tāvad abodha-jāto yāvan na jijñāsata ātma-tattvam* So long he is not awakened to inquire "What I am?"—simply under madness he is going after this bodily sense enjoyment, but he does not know that he is not this body, therefore all his activities under this wrong conception of life are to be considered as defeat of his human mission of life. Yes. Just like the Supreme Lord is *ānanda-mātram:* simply *ānanda,* bliss, transcendental bliss. Therefore there is another verse in *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam: ramante yoginaḥ anante*.

**[1974: Morning Walk](spoken/1974/740123mw.hon)**
> *...māṁ paśyati sarvatra sarvaṁ ca mayi paśyati*. That is advancement of Kṛṣṇa consciousness: everywhere one sees Kṛṣṇa, and in Kṛṣṇa he sees everything. Therefore he sees Kṛṣṇa only. He sees nothing. And the atheist will say, "Where is Kṛṣṇa?" And advanced devotee will say, "Everywhere Kṛṣṇa, *antar bahiḥ,* inside and outside." *Nato nāṭyadharo yathā*.
> That is assured, that any condition of life, you'll have these four things. *Tasyaiva hetoḥ prayateta kovido na labhyate yad bhramatām upary adhaḥ*. Therefore we should not endeavor for these four things. That is already fixed. I'll get in any condition of life. Then? What for our energy should be employed? Which was not available, wandering up and down, beginning from the heavenly planet down to the Pluto's planet. [aside:] This is a passenger ship?

**[1974: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.16.26–30](spoken/1974/740123sb.hon)**
> So eating, sleeping, mating and defending. And defending, we are defending so many ways, but still, war is there, and the onslaught of material nature... Your country is defending so nicely, but now the petrol is taken away. You cannot defend. Similarly, everything can be taken away at any moment. So depend on Kṛṣṇa for defending, defenses. *Avaśya rakṣibe kṛṣṇa* [*Śaraṇāgati*]. This is called surrender. Surrender, means... Kṛṣṇa says that "You surrender unto Me," *sarva-dharmān parityajya*.
> Śuci, śaucam, śuci. *So the devotee must be clean, inside and outside, both. Outside cleaning by taking bath, washing the body with oil or soap or soda; and inside, inside, materially, there will be no unclean things, stool, unnecessary stool. That means one must evacuate every morning and evening. If we eat more, then we have to evacuate twice. But if we eat less, then once evacuation is sufficient. It is said, *yogī*, *bhogī* and *rogī. Yogī* means spiritually advanced, and *bhogī* means materialistic, and *rogī* means diseased. It is a common saying. A *yogī* evacuates only once. That is *yogī.* And *bhogī,* because he eats more, so he evacuates twice. And one who evacuates more than twice, he's *rogī,* diseased. *Yogī*, *bhogī, rogī.* So everything has got routine work. *Śaucam.* So you'll feel healthy. If you have evacuated nicely, you have washed inside and outside, taken your bath, then you'll feel always refreshed. And unless you feel refreshed, you cannot very nicely chant Hare Kṛṣṇa *mahā-mantra* or serve Kṛṣṇa. Therefore cleanliness is required. *Apavitraḥ pavitro vā.* But... *Apavitraḥ pavitro vā sarvāvasthāṁ gato 'pi vā.* If one takes to Kṛṣṇa consciousness and follows the rules and regulation, then automatically he becomes clean inside and outside. Automatically. *Apavitraḥ pavitro vā.* What for we are accepting initiation? In any condition, in any condition we shall be purified by chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa, *ceto-darpaṇa-mārjanam*, if we chant really.

**[1975: Cornerstone Laying Bhagavad-gītā 16.7–9](spoken/1975/750123cs.bom)**
> Anna—*mean food grains—we require. *Annād bhavanti bhūtāni.* That food grains we can produce very easily by agriculture. In another place Kṛṣṇa says, *kṛṣi-go-rakṣya-vāṇijyaṁ vaiśya-karma svabhāva-jam*. We can produce sufficient food grains for our maintenance, and the whole world has got sufficient land. I have traveled over the world at least fourteen times. During the last eight years I have traveled all over the world, even interior. I have seen there is enough land, especially in Africa, in Australia, in America, and we can produce so much food grains that ten times of this present population can be easily maintained. Ten times. There is no scarcity of food. But the difficulty is that we have demarcated, "This is my land." Somebody says, "This is American, my land," "Australia, my land," "The Africa, my land," "India, my land." This "my" and "I." *Janasya moho 'yam ahaṁ mameti*. This is called illusion, that "I" and "my." "I am this body, and this is my property." This is called illusion. And this illusion, if we stand on this platform of illusion, then we are no better than the animals.
> If actually we want to take advantage of this *Bhagavad-gītā,* then we must take *Bhagavad-gītā* as it is, just like Arjuna took. Arjuna, after hearing *Bhagavad-gītā,* he said, *sarvam etam ṛtaṁ manye:* "I accept all the words, my dear Keśava, whatever You have said. I accept them *in toto,* without any change." This is understanding of *Bhagavad-gītā.* Not that I take advantage of the *Bhagavad-gītā* and I interpret in my foolish way so that people will accept my philosophy. This is not *Bhagavad-gītā.* There is no question of interpretation in the *Bhagavad-gītā.* Interpretation is allowed when you cannot understand. When the things are clearly understood... If I say, "This is microphone," everyone understands this is microphone. Where is the necessity of interpreting it? There is no necessity. This is foolishness, misleading. There cannot be any interpretation in the *Bhagavad-gītā.* It is... Everything is clear to the point. Just like Bhagavān Kṛṣṇa says... Kṛṣṇa does not say that "You all become *sannyāsī* and give up your occupational duty." No. Kṛṣṇa says, *sva-karmaṇā tam abhyarcya saṁsiddhiḥ labhate naraḥ*.* You remain in your business. You remain your occupation. There is no need of changing. But still, you can become Kṛṣṇa conscious and make your life successful. This is the message of *Bhagavad-gītā. Bhagavad-gītā* is not going to make any topsy-turvy of the social order or spiritual order. No. It should be standardized according to the authority. And the best authority is Kṛṣṇa.

**[1976: Morning Walk](spoken/1976/760123mw.may)**
> Therefore there is no other method to save them. *Harer nāmaiva kevalam* [*Cc Ādi*7.76]. This is Caitanya Mahāprabhu's gift. Incorrigible. Everyone will be incorrigible. Only hope is Hare Kṛṣṇa. The whole Vedic system is to make human being correct. Being incorrect, they are suffering in this material world repetition of birth, death—sometimes man, sometimes dog. So to correct him so that he comes to his original position, Kṛṣṇa conscious, and go back to home. This is the whole Vedic civilization, to correct him. Therefore it is called *saṁskāra. Saṁskāra* means correction. *Saṁskārād bhaved dvijaḥ. Veda-pāṭhād bhaved vipro brahma jānātīti brāhmaṇaḥ.* To correct him and bring him to the brahminical stage. From pig stage to brahminical stage. This is Vedic civilization. Everyone is like pig in this material world. Therefore Ṛṣabhadeva says, "Now don't live like pig." *Nāyaṁ deho deha-bhājāṁ nṛloke kaṣṭān kāmān arhate viḍ-bhujāṁ ye* :
> Then you get this *yantra,* how you can become perfect pig, whole day and night eat stool, and as soon as you get another opposite party, have sex. Doesn't matter whether it is daughter or mother or sister. That's all. Take Freud's philosophy and become highly advanced in civilization. Now the Freud's philosophy is being translated in Hindi and so many other languages. We are advancing in civilization, Indians. They are translating this Freud's philosophy, pig civilization. People therefore do not come to us. [chuckles] They avoid us because "They are not pigs."

So from now on I want our presidents to be very sure about the devotees they are recommending to me for second initiation. I think sometimes in the past devotees have been recommended chiefly because some more helpers were required in maintaining the deity work.
