# January 20 *Lectures from this day: 11 recordings* --- **[[spoken/670120cc.sf|Cc. Madhya 25.19-31 — January 20, 1967, San Francisco]]** **Prabhupāda:** ...Caitanya Mahāprabhu to the Māyāvādī *sannyāsīs.* They were convinced with the arguments and presentation of Lord Caitanya. And from that day, not only the *sannyāsīs,* but also the people in general, they also became very much admirer of Lord Caitanya. So, And because He defeated the Māyāvādī philosopher, many other scholars also began to meet Him personally and talk with Him, argue with Him. So this was going on naturally. Whenever a man becomes prominent, so many others, they come to challenge him. That is natural sequence. --- **[[spoken/690120sb.la|SB 5.5.1 — January 20, 1969, Los Angeles]]** *[*kīrtana*]* [**Prabhupāda plays gong] [*prema-dhvani*] **All glories to the assembled devotees. All glories to the assembled devotees. The reflection, Kṛṣṇa being richly dressed, richly fed, it will be reflected on you. Kṛṣṇa is not in necessity, but we should dress Kṛṣṇa with the first-quality ornaments. In India the Deities, They are given very, very valuable jewelry. The Muhammadans were attracted for these jewelries, [laughter] and they came to India to plunder the temples to get the jewelries. Still, temples there are millions of dollars of jewelries. Any such temple. In Jagannātha temple there is a valuable jewel. Just here, it is kept, here, in a pocket. So Deity should be very nicely dressed. That is the temple worship. At the same time should be careful also. Chant. The Supreme Lord has two types of energies: superior and inferior. When I remain enamoured by the inferior energy then all my occupational activities are inferior. Just like we think of ourselves as belonging to the Hindu *dharma*, some think that they are Muslims and others think of themselves as Christians. Some take their religion or *dharma* to be the service of their country. Some think that their religion is to serve the society. So, there are so many religions but because they are all connected with this material body they are all inferior, *aparā*. So, if one continues to remain engaged in inferior activities of religion then perfection is never achieved. In the scriptures it is known as *kaitava dharma*. *Kaitava* means trickery or cheating. In the *Śrīmad Bhāgavatam* it has been said right in the beginning *dharmaḥ projjita-kaitavo atra* [[sb/1/1/2|[SB. 1.1.2] ]]: all the cheating kind of religion. By that it means all that which goes on in the name of religion but is actually not. First, we all have to understand what *dharma* is. In the religious scriptures it has been said *dharmaṁ tu sākṣād bhagavat-praṇītaṁ* [[sb/6/3/19|[SB. 6.3.19] ]], that which is the word of God, the order of God, that is *dharma*. Why? Because the living entities are the parts and parcels of the Supreme Lord. --- **[[spoken/740120mw.hon|Morning Walk, partially recorded — January 20, 1974, Honolulu]]** **Satsvarūpa:** There's no life there. They want to go where there may be life. Now they know there's no life there, so there's no point in going. There may be life on Mars. **Prabhupāda:** Then let them go—they are life—and colonize. Where is life? Which planet they say there is life? **Nitāi:** It's quite a bit further than the moon. They watch through their telescopes, and every year they see that the surface of the planet changes, that there's certain dark areas which grow and then they recede. --- **[[spoken/740120sb.hon|SB 1.16.24 — January 20, 1974, Honolulu]]** **Pradyumna:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* [devotees repeat] [leads chanting of verse] [Prabhup**ā**da corrects pronunciation of *tavādhimūlaṁ* when devotees chant] [break] [leads chanting of synonyms] [break] --- **[[spoken/750120sb.bom|SB 3.26.45 — January 20, 1975, Bombay]]** **Nitāi:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya. **O**ṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* [devotees repeat] [leads chanting of verse, etc.] "Odor, although one, becomes many—as mixed, offensive, fragrant, mild, strong, acidic and so on—according to the proportions of associated substances." --- **[[spoken/760120mw.may|Morning Walk — January 20, 1976, Māyāpur]]** **Prabhupāda:** *Śrīmad bhāgavate kiṁ vā paraiḥ.* [[sb/1/1/2|[SB. 1.1.2] ]] There is no other literature required.
