*Lectures from this day: 11 recordings*

**[1967: Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 25.19–30](spoken/1967/670120cc.sf)**
> "Because I come as incarnation, therefore the fools, they consider..., or they deride at Me." *Paraṁ bhāvam ajānanto.* They do not know the background of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. *Mama bhūta-maheśvaram.* Kṛṣṇa says, "I am the Supreme Lord." They do not know. Who do not know? The Māyāvādīs, they do not know.
> Similarly, the *bhaktas* also say that "You are simply wasting time. Real thing is Kṛṣṇa. Just engage yourself in the service of Kṛṣṇa." They also say, "Kṛṣṇa is also *māyā.*" According to them, Kṛṣṇa is also *māyā.* And Kṛṣṇa in *Bhagavad-gītā* says that they are fools. How? *Avajānanti māṁ mūḍhā. Mūḍha* means "The fools, they minimize Me. They decry at Me." *Avajānanti māṁ mūḍhā mānuṣīṁ tanum āśritaḥ*.

**[1969: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 5.5.1](spoken/1969/690120sb.la)**
> So that pain is called *tapasya,* voluntarily accepting little pain. *Tapo divyam. And what for that pains taking? *Divyam,* for realizing the Absolute Truth. Not for that... Just like a student is working very hard to find out the possibilities of nuclear weapon. That is also *tapasya.* But what is that? For finding out some means to kill the human society. That sort of *tapasya* is not required, like Rāvaṇa's *tapasya* or Hiraṇyakaśipu's *tapasya. Tapasyā...* Here it is especially emntioned that you accept, voluntarily accept some pain for realizing the Absolute. *Tapo divyam.*
> So you may answer that "Why shall I take so much pains for realizing the Absolute? I can take some pains here for material acquisition, I shall be happy here. I do not..." That answer is also given: *Tapo divyam..., tapo divyaṁ putrakā yena sattvaṁ śuddhyet* : "My dear boys, you just take to this austerity, life of austerity, for realizing the Absolute, by which your existence will be purified."

**[1969: Talk [Partially Recorded](spoken/1969/690120ta.la)**
> Still, temples there are millions of dollars of jewelries. Any such temple. In Jagannātha temple there is a valuable jewel. Just here, it is kept, here, in a pocket. So Deity should be very nicely dressed. That is the temple worship. At the same time should be careful also. Chant. [end]

**[1972: Lecture in Hindi](spoken/1972/720120le.jai)**
> The Supreme Lord appears to establish *dharma,* this is the very meaning of incarnation of the Supreme Lord: to establish *dharma.* Then the Lord says, *sarva-dharmān parityajya*. But if the Lord appears to establish dharma then why is He now asking to give it all up? This should be pondered upon. He asks us to give dharmas up, those *dharmas* which are actually cheating religion. *Dharma kaitava, kaitava* means that which is cheating religion. The religion in which the followers are not taught to surrender unto the lotus feet of the Supreme Lord. They are all cheating religions.
> Therefore, the Supreme Lord says, *etad yonini bhutani sarvani, sarvani* means that all those who are within the 8400000 species of life, the cause of their creation and annihilation is only me. This is the definition of God. Etad yonini sarvani, *etad yonin bhutani sarvani upadharaya hama krtsnasya jagatah*, of the creation including all the universes *aham krtsnasya jagatah prabhavah pralayas tatha*. Creation, maintenance or annihilation all that happens, the Supreme Lord, Krishna is the only cause of it all. Therefore, the Lord is also addressed as *sarva karana karanam*. God is the cause of all causes, the secondary creation is carried out by Lord Brahma, the maintenance is done by Lord Vishnu and annihilation is the activity of Lord Shiva, Mahadeva. All three of them are the masters of three modes of nature. Just like in a government office there are different departments and all departments have their chiefs. Things work in this creation in the same way. The official directors are Brahma, Visnu and Maheshwara, the duty of Lord Brahma is creation, Lord Visnu's duty is to maintain it. Maintenance can only be managed by Lord Vishnu not by Lord Brahma or Lord Shiva *eko bahunam yo vidadhati kaman*, that is Lord Vishnu's work.

> Then let them go—they are life—and colonize. Where is life? Which planet they say there is life?
---
**[1974: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.16.24](spoken/1974/740120sb.hon)**
> Therefore we say, "No illicit sex, no intoxication." You are already intoxicated. Why you are increasing intoxication? This *māyā* means intoxication. *Piśācī pāile yena mati-cchanna...* [Prema-vivarta 1] Just like a person, when he's ghostly haunted, he calls his father by ill names, but he cannot recognize even his father. So all of us, we are already under the clutches of *māyā.* That is the position of intoxication. And again intoxication? So what will be our condition? So therefore it is prohibited. First of all, whatever intoxication you have already got, just try to cure it. Don't increase it. So everything... The physical necessities means we have already got it. But it is meant for decreasing, not increasing. *Pravṛttir eṣā bhūtānāṁ nivṛttis tu mahā-phalā* [Manu-saṁhitā]. We have got general tendency, *loke vyavāyāmiṣa-madya-sevā* . Everything is there in the *śāstra. Nityā hi jantoḥ. Jantu* means living entities. So, it is eternally existing, *loke vyavāya,* sex intercourse; *āmiṣa,* eating non-fruital things. *Āmiṣa* means "which is not fruits and vegetable." Meat, fish, eggs, they are called *āmiṣa.* And they are called *nirāmiṣa. Nirāmiṣa* means fruits, vegetable, milks, food grains, sugar. These are *nirāmiṣa.* And eggs, fish, meat and so many other things, they are called *āmiṣa.* So *āmiṣa. Āmiṣa* means these things. *Sevā,* eating. And *vyavāya. Vyavāya* means sex life. *Loke vyavāyāmiṣa-madya,* intoxication.
> Therefore... *Kālena sarvatra gabhīra-raṁhasā*. There it is said, *kālena vā te balināṁ balīyasā. Kāla,* time, is very powerful. Time... In time everything can be done. In time you can become very happy, and in time you can become very distressed, very much distressed, unhappy. Time can give you. And time is also Kṛṣṇa, *kāla-rūpeṇa.* When... You'll find in the *Bhagavad-gītā* that, in the Eleventh Chapter... I've just now forget that..., that "Who are You?" *Kāla.* The *virāḍ-rūpa,* the universal form seeing, Arjuna said, "Who are You, Sir?" So He said that "I am in the *kāla-rūpa,* in the form of time now. I have come to kill the all, all of you."

**[1975: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 3.26.45](spoken/1975/750120sb.bom)**
> So *mahātmā* and Vāsudeva, there are two. The *mahātmā* realizing Vāsudeva, and Vāsudeva is everywhere. And that is perfection of life. A person who realizes Vāsudeva in that way... Vāsudeva means everything lives on somebody. Vāsudeva. So Kṛṣṇa says, *mat-sthāni sarva-bhūtāni nāhaṁ teṣu avasthitaḥ*: "Everything is resting on Me, but still, it appears that I am not there." This is illusory energy. *Vāsudevaḥ sarvam iti*, that's a fact. Vāsudeva is everywhere. Kṛṣṇa is everywhere. Simply we have to purify our senses to understand the presence of Vāsudeva. That is required. And that is possible if we increase our loving tendency to love Kṛṣṇa. *Premāñjana-cchurita-bhakti-vilocanena santaḥ sadaiva hṛdayeṣu vilokayanti* [Bs. 5.38].
> Kṛṣṇa has got many forms. Every form is Kṛṣṇa's form. That's a fact. *Advaitam acyutam anādim ananta-rūpam* [Bs. 5.33]. Some of the forms are personal, some of the forms are of His potencies, *śakti,* but all forms belong to Kṛṣṇa. So some of them are material forms, and whatever differentiation of forms we see in the material world, they are all Kṛṣṇa's form. But in the spiritual world there are also many forms—just like Kṛṣṇa, Balarāma, then Vāsudeva, Saṅkarṣaṇa, Aniruddha, Pradyumna, Nārāyaṇa, and the *puruṣa-avatāra.* There are many. And there are innumerable planets also. In each and every planet there is one form. And when incarnation comes, one of the forms from Vaikuṇṭha, They come as incarnation. So, many forms are called *svāṁśa.* In the *Varāha Purāṇa* you will find the description of the forms: *svāṁśa* and *vibhinnāṁśa.* The forms exhibited in this material world as living being, they are *vibhinnāṁśa. Bhinnā prakṛtir me aṣṭadhā.* As there are separated energies, *bhūmir āpo 'nalo vāyuḥ*, the five elements, material elements, *mahā-bhūta,* they are also forms of Kṛṣṇa. This big mountain, Himalayan mountain, that is also form of Kṛṣṇa. The big Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, that is also form of Kṛṣṇa. He says, *bhūmir āpaḥ. Āpaḥ. Āpaḥ* means water. So not only water in this planet, but there are millions and trillions of Pacific Ocean bigger than that in other planets. So, inconceivable. Therefore God is inconceivable, *acintya. Acintya-guṇa. Acintya,* inconceivable.

> We are also... They can say that "You are also con..." But we are not doing it for ourself. It is for Kṛṣṇa. Therefore *karma* and *bhakti* apparently looks the same activity, but one is for Kṛṣṇa, another is for one's personal use. *Bhuñjate te tv aghaṁ pāpāḥ.* What is that verse? You know? *Bhuñjate te tv aghaṁ pāpā ye pacanty ātma-kāraṇāt*. Hmm? What is that book?

> When a soul wants to enjoy this material world, forgetting his real home in the spiritual world, he takes this life of hard struggle for existence. This unnatural life of repeated birth, death, disease and old age can be stopped when his consciousness is dovetailed with the Supreme consciousness of God. That is the basic principle of our Krishna Consciousness Movement.
