# January 19 *Lectures from this day: 12 recordings* --- **[[spoken/690119le.la|Sunday Feast Lecture — January 19, 1969, Los Angeles]]** **Prabhupāda:** ...the real meaning of Sanskrit means "reform." It is not whimsical, just like in English language, "beauty but, peauty put." It is not like that. Every word, every syllable has got a symbolic meaning. *Bhaga. Bhaga* means opulence, and *vān* means one who possesses. There are many words like that: *guṇavān. Guṇavān. Guṇa* means quality, and *vān* means one who possesses. Similarly, the Sanskrit word, equivalent word of the English word "God," is *Bhagavān. Bhaga...* God... Generally described, "God is great." That is perfect. Actually God is great. Nobody can be equal to God, and nobody can be greater than God. Greatness... If I am great, and if there is another competitor great, then I am not God, neither he is God. When we say, speak of God, there is no competitor. The Sanskrit word used, *asamordhva. Asama. Sama* means equal; *a* means not. Nobody is equal. *Asama, urdhva.* There are three positions. Just like we are sitting here: somebody is equal to me, somebody is greater than me and somebody is lower than me. You will find, everyone. Anywhere you go, you'll find, somebody is greater than you, somebody is equal to you and somebody is lower than you. Anywhere you go. But in case of God, there can be only lower; nobody greater or equal. That is God, simple definition of God. --- **[[spoken/720119le.jai|Lecture [Hindi] — January 19, 1972, Jaipur]]** **Devotee: January 19th, Jaipur.Prabhupāda:** *Sav ai pumsam paro dharmahyato bhaktir adhokshaje ahaituki apratihata yayatma samprasidati.* So Suta Goswami is explaining this in a conference of big big *rsis* and *brahmanas* about the *paro dharma* the Supreme religion. This material nature is addressed as *para* by the Supreme Lord. There are two kinds of natures of the Lord one is *para* and another *apara*. Just this morning we were discussing upon the verse: Then the Lord continues to *aparaeyam*, this material nature constituting of earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and ego this is inferior energy of the Lord. Just like when you go to buy something from the market. There, there is always the consideration of inferior and superior products. Similarly, the Supreme Lord Himself says that this material world which is made of earth water fire air and ether, *tejo vari mrd vinimayam*, as it has been said in the *Srimad Bhagavatam.* --- **[[spoken/720119r1.jai|Room Conversation on SB 1.5.11 — January 19, 1972, Jaipur]]** **Prabhupāda:** ...these people or this revolution is meant for killing the sinful resultant action of the people. This revolution. *Janatā agha.* *Agha* means resultant action of sinful life. So *janatā agha viplavaḥ*. *Viplavaḥ* means revolution. This very word is used. Such revolutionary literature, even they are not properly composed, *yasmin prati-ślokam abaddham,* not according to the grammatical rules and other rhetorical rules, but the, I mean to say, thoughts and the effects of such revolutionary literature is required. Not the grammatical. The so-called rascals, they are concerned with the grammatical. But those who are actually worker, they are concerned with the thoughts. What is the thought is there? Therefore, it is said that, --- **[[spoken/740119mw.hon|Morning Walk, partially recorded — January 19, 1974, Honolulu]]** **Kṛṣṇa-caitanya:** The day before yesterday we were driving down the road and we came across all of these coconut trees, and they were trimming them, and all of the coconuts were up on the trees, but they were cutting them down, letting them just fall to the ground. And the coconuts were cracking and just being wasted completely. And then they'd throw them in the garbage. And there's so much energy that Kṛṣṇa has provided here that they're just wasting. **Prabhupāda:** As they are wasting, they will be punished. Kṛṣṇa's supplied, and they're wasting. That will be punished. **Prabhupāda:** Coconut, you collect, and each one of you use at least two coconuts daily, drinking water and the pulp. It is very digestive and nutritious. The pulp is very nutritious and digestive. If you simply take the pulp from two sides and drink that water, you don't require to eat anything, it is so nutritious. So better collect, and so long you can get them, use two coconuts daily yourself.* [*japa] [break] ...purchase that *Kṛṣṇa,* and when he'll ask his man to "Give me that *Kṛṣṇa* book, let me read," this "Kṛṣṇa" will give him some benefit, his calling *"Kṛṣṇa book*" --- **[[spoken/740119sb.hon|SB 1.16.23 — January 19, 1974, Honolulu]]** **Pradyumna:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya. Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya. *[devotees repeat] [leads chanting of verse, etc.] **Translation:** "O Mother Earth, the Supreme Personality of Godhead Hari incarnated Himself as Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa just to unload your heavy burden. All His activities here are transcendental, and they cement the path of liberation. You are now bereft of His presence. You are probably now thinking of those activities and feeling sorry in their absence." --- **[[spoken/750119sb.bom|SB 3.26.44 — January 19, 1975, Bombay]]** **Nitāi:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya. **O**ṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* [devotees repeat] [leads chanting of verse, etc.] "Due to the interaction of water with the taste perception, the subtle element odor evolves under superior arrangement. Thence the earth and the olfactory sense, by which we can variously experience the aroma of the earth, become manifest." --- **[[spoken/760119mw.may|Morning Walk — January 19, 1976, Māyāpur]]** **Jayapatākā:** The volume is a million times more than the earth. Don't know the circumference. They say the sun is a million times bigger than the earth, volume. [break] **Jayapatākā:** We can get a lot of people, village people, to come and live without pay and do the cleaning, but they won't be productive. I mean, they'll have to be supported by the temple. They'll just be cleaning all day. **Prabhupāda:** Supporting is no problem. To everyone we can give place and food. There is no problem. --- **[[spoken/760119r1.may|Room Conversation — January 19, 1976, Māyāpur]]** **Prabhupāda:** The stricture of nature's law, that is science. Is it not? Scientific effort. They will never be able to do so, but still, they are... To stop death, birth, death, old age, is very major problem, but even in small things you cannot do anything. Everywhere you are dependent. And still, they are very much proud that they are advancing in scientific knowledge so that they can overcome the stringent laws of nature and so on, so on. *Durāśayā.* It is called *durāśayā*, hope which will never be fulfilled. Is it not? *Durāśayā. Śāstra, Bhāgavata,* says, *durāśayā*. This is their foolishness. They are expecting something which will never be fulfilled. Therefore *śāstra* says *durāśayā.* Now what they are doing about the moon planet? **Prabhupāda:** Just see. *Hele dharate pāre nā keuṭe.* [Bengali proverb] A man was trying to capture snake. So there are snakes, *hele.* There are many snakes; they have no poison, especially the water snake, the *hele.* So *hele dharate pāre nā keuṭe. Keuṭe* means cobra. So one cannot capture the poisonless snake, and he is attempting to capture cobra. So they could not go to the moon planet, which is only 1,600,000 miles above the sun, and they are going to Venus, which is far, far away, still. How many miles the Venus is situated? They have committed some mistake. **Harikeśa:** Yes. Well, they say here it's 600,000 *yojanas,* which makes 48,000,000 miles—no—480,000,000 miles above the sun. --- **[[spoken/770119ar.bhu|Arrival [partially recorded] — January 19, 1977, Bhubaneswar]]** --- **[[spoken/770119le.bhu|Evening Lecture — January 19, 1977, Bhubaneswar]]** --- **[[spoken/770119r1.bhu|Room Conversation — January 19, 1977, Bhubaneswar]]** --- **[[spoken/770119r2.bhu|Room Conversation — January 19, 1977, Bhubaneswar]]** --- ## Letters - [[../../letters/1967/670119_brahmananda_hayagriva_kirtanananda_satsvarupa_gargamuni_acyutananda_jadurani.md|Letter to Brahmananda Hayagriva Kirtanananda Satsvarupa Gargamuni Acyutananda Jadurani, 1967]] - [[../../letters/1968/680119_hitsaran_sharma.md|Letter to Hitsaran Sharma, 1968]] - [[../../letters/1969/690119_anuradha.md|Letter to Anuradha, 1969]] - [[../../letters/1970/700119_bank_manager.md|Letter to Bank Manager, 1970]] - [[../../letters/1972/720119_ksirodakasayi.md|Letter to Ksirodakasayi, 1972]] - [[../../letters/1974/740119_gurudasa.md|Letter to Gurudasa, 1974]] - [[../../letters/1974/740119_manager_of_punjab_national_bank.md|Letter to Manager Of Punjab National Bank, 1974]] - [[../../letters/1974/740119_tejiyas.md|Letter to Tejiyas, 1974]] - [[../../letters/1975/750119_gurudasa.md|Letter to Gurudasa, 1975]] - [[../../letters/1975/750119_mahamsa.md|Letter to Mahamsa, 1975]] - [[../../letters/1975/750119_radhavallabha.md|Letter to Radhavallabha, 1975]] - [[../../letters/1975/750119_satsvarupa.md|Letter to Satsvarupa, 1975]] - [[../../letters/1975/750119_sucharu_deva.md|Letter to Sucharu Deva, 1975]] - [[../../letters/1977/770119_brisakapi.md|Letter to Brisakapi, 1977]] - [[../../letters/1977/770119_kunja_behari.md|Letter to Kunja Behari, 1977]]
