# January 14 *Lectures from this day: 5 recordings* --- **[[spoken/690114bg.la|Bg 4.39-42 — January 14, 1969, Los Angeles]]** **Revatīnandana:** One hundred and thirty-one. "A faithful man who is absorbed in transcendental knowledge and who subdues his senses quickly attains the supreme spiritual peace." **Purport:** "Such knowledge in Kṛṣṇa consciousness can be achieved by a faithful person who believes firmly in Kṛṣṇa. One is called a faithful man who thinks that simply by acting in Kṛṣṇa consciousness one can attain the highest perfection." **Prabhupāda:** Yes. Faith... There are different kinds of faith, but in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, the preliminary condition of faith is to believe that simply by serving Kṛṣṇa, everything will be complete. *Kṛṣṇe...* There is a verse in... --- **[[spoken/720114le.jai|Lecture [Hindi] — January 14, 1972, Jaipur]]** **Prabhupāda:** It is said that there is no need for them to understand the Supreme Lord in essence, why? Because they have understood the real thing, love for Godhead, he has no further need to understand how big Kṛṣṇa is, for this person with love for Godhead knows God, for example Mother Yaśoda. When Kṛṣṇa killed Pūtanā Yaśoda reached the spot, but thought that due to some godly power her boy was save, but she doesn't think that this son of her is the Supreme Perosnality of Godhead, for there's no need for her. She gets the real object which is love for Godhead. Still this cannot be considered ordinary, why? Because those who consider the activities of Kṛṣṇa to be ordinary *avajānanti māṁ mūḍhā mānuṣīṁ tanum āśritam* [[bg/9/11|[Bg. 9.11] ]], ordinary people who have no knowledge they—*paraṁ bhāvam ajānant*, they don't understand the Supreme position of the Supreme Lord. They think that Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Lord is just some common person, maybe just a little more powerful. This is called *kūpa-maṇḍūka nyāya*, the frog dwelling within the well, how can it possibly understand what is the Pacific Ocean? It will simply imagine; it has never seen the Pacific Ocean. If someone meets him who has actually seen the Pacific, and he says to the frog, "I saw the Pacific, it is such a huge ocean." Well, the frog asks, how big is it? This well I live in is three feet wide, is it bigger than this? How much big, three- four inches? Or ten inches? So, he can keep on imagining but will never be able to understand how big the Pacific Ocean is. That is why those who are foolish, they think that Kṛṣṇa is an ordinary person or maybe a great historic person. but one who is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, that He cannot imagine, that is why Kṛṣṇa Himself is revealing His glories to Him: --- **[[spoken/730114sb.bom|SB Preface, Pandal Lecture — January 14, 1973, Bombay]]** Before speaking on the verses already quoted by my disciples, I may be permitted to read a portion of my preface to the Hare Kṛṣṇa movement. Those who are my..., our Life Members, they have got the *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam,* First Canto, Part One. There he will find this preface. But for general information as to the need of this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement, I may read a portion of it. [reads] "We must know the present need of human society. And what is that need? Human society is no longer bounded by geographical limits." Just like we are traveling all over the world, not only once, but twice, thrice in a year. Because there is facility for traveling the airways, so it has become very easy to go from country to country. And practically, while I am in India, all my disciples are coming here from different parts of the world every morning. There are facilities now. Therefore the world is now not limited by geographical condition. Anyone can go anywhere very swiftly. You can go to London from Bombay within nine hours. So the world is not bounded any more by geographical limits to the particular countries or communities. --- **[[spoken/750114sb.bom|SB 3.26.39 — January 14, 1975, Bombay]]** **Nitāi:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* [devotees repeat] [leads chanting of verse, etc.] *dravyākṛtitvaṁ guṇatā vyakti-saṁsthātvam eva ca tejastvaṁ tejasaḥ sādhvi rūpa-mātrasya vṛttayaḥ* * [[sb/3/26/39|[SB. 3.26.39] ]] "My dear mother, the characteristics of form are understood by dimension, quality and individuality. The form of fire is appreciated by its effulgence." --- **[[spoken/760114sb.cal|SB 5.5.2 [Bengali] — January 14, 1976, Calcutta]]** [Transl. So if want to follow the path of liberation then *mahat sevā*: service to the great souls, should be rendered. Narottama Dāsa Ṭhākura has said, *chāḍiyā vaiṣṇava sevā nistāra pāyeche kebā*: [who can get liberation without the service to the Vaiṣṇavas?]Mahātmā means Vaiṣṇava. Yesterday We discussed about this. Lord Kṛṣṇa explains *mahātmā*. [aside:] What is that sound? Who does God call a *mahātmā*? --- ## Letters - [[../../letters/1966/660114_mr._a.b._hartman.md|Letter to Mr. A.B.
