**Prabhupāda:**
"*Paraṁ vijayate śrī-kṛṣṇa-caitanya*." Śrī Kṛṣṇa-Caitanya. I have received a letter from Los Angeles today. There is a big party in Hawaii, Honolulu Island, it is not our *sampradāya*, but it chants, "Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare." It is informed that the party has reached to Los Angeles, and the way we live pure [indistinct], they also shaved their heads and mixed with us. And all the money they had were given. It is not a small amount, 4 lakh rupees. That has also been given. Therefore Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu's blessings *paraṁ vijayate śrī-kṛṣṇa-saṅkīrtanam*. In Kali-yuga, perform *saṅkīrtana*, glorify Lord Śrī-Kṛṣṇa. He is the summum-bonum of *veda-vedānta*. It is said in *Bhagavad-gītā* [15.15] *vedaiś ca sarvair aham eva vedyam*". What is the purpose of *Vedānta*? To understand Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa. If by following one's religion, by following *veda-vedānta*, by acquiring *jñāna* and performing *yajña*, austerity and *yoga*, one does not come to *kṛṣṇa-bhakti*, then it is labor, simply labor; *śrama eva hi kevalam*.
> dharmaḥ svanuṣṭhitaḥ puṁsāṁ
> viṣvaksena-kathāsu yaḥ
> notpādayed yadi ratiṁ
> śrama eva hi kevalam
> [[sb/1/2/8|[SB. 1.2.8] ]]
Everyone has one's religion. One should follow the religion. But at the end if one does not come to the devotional service, *kṛṣṇa-bhakti*, then it is simply a show, hard labor. There is no profit.
> ārādhito yadi haris tapasā tataḥ kiṁ
> nārādhito yadi haris tapasā tataḥ kim
> antar bahir yadi haris tapasā tataḥ kiṁ
> nāntar bahir yadi haris tapasā tataḥ kim
> [Nārada Pañcarātra 1.2.6]
Ultimately if one worships Lord, and a love arises for Him, and if one only surrenders to His Lotus feet, then there is no necessity of any other kind of austerity for him. All austerities are over.
> ārādhito yadi haris tapasā tataḥ kiṁ
> nārādhito yadi haris tapasā tataḥ kim
Even after doing all sorts of things if one does not worship the Lord, then all so-called austerity has no value. It has no value; *antar bahir yadi haris tapasā tataḥ kiṁ*. One who sees the Lord everywhere inside, outside and in everyone's heart, for him there is no need for austerity. And *nāntar bahir yadi haris tapasā tataḥ kim*, if by doing all sorts of things one does not realize the Lord within and without, then that kind of austerity has no value. Lord Himself says in Gītā on this realization, everyone equal, to realize God [..]: *mayy arpita mano-buddhiḥ* [[bg/8/7|[Bg. 8.7] ]]
> yogaṁ yuñjan mad-āśrayaḥ
> asaṁśayaṁ samagraṁ māṁ
> yathā jñāsyasi tac chṛṇu
> [[bg/7/1|[Bg. 7.1] ]]
Lord says to Arjuna, *māyayā āveśa*. Always *hari-kīrtana*. In this way, *yogaṁ yuñjan mad-āśrayaḥ*, and by taking a shelter of My devotee, one who practices the *bhakti-yoga*, there remains no doubt for him on the subject matter of God. And what the God is? *Samagraṁ, asaṁśayaṁ samagraṁ*. You can understand God completely by devotional service, and there will remain no doubts. But, there will be doubts in other processes. *Asaṁśayaṁ, this yogaṁ yuñjan mad-āśrayaḥ*. And by taking shelter of a devotee, one should practice the *yoga*, *bhakti-yoga*.
> tad viddhi praṇipātena
> paripraśnena sevayā
> upadekṣyanti tad jñānaṁ
> jñāninas tattva-darśinaḥ
> [[bg/4/34|[Bg. 4.34] ]]
If you.. *tad vastu*. *Tad vastu* means, "things pertaining to God." *Tat sat, om tat sat; tad jñānam*. It is stated in the *Kaṭha* [*Muṇḍaka Upaniṣad* 1.2.12], *tad-vijñānārthaṁ sa gurum evābhigacchet*. *Tad-jñānaṁ*, to attain the knowledge on God, one must go to a guru. Who is guru? *Śrotriyaṁ brahma-niṣṭham* [*Muṇḍaka Upaniṣad*, 1.2.12] one who has faith, full faith, in God by studying the Vedas, scriptures. So all these processes, the extract of all the scriptures is that in Kali-yuga only by chanting the holy name of God all your processes will be complete.
Caitanya Mahāprabhu says, *paraṁ vijayate śrī-kṛṣṇa-saṅkīrtanam*. *Śrī-kṛṣṇa-saṅkīrtanam paraṁ vijayārādhī* [?]. The supreme victory. For the evidence, see in western countries, there has been a supreme victory, everyone is taking shelter at the lotus feet of Lord Kṛṣṇa. And this is possible only through *saṅkīrtana*. There has been a victory. Prophecy of Caitanya Mahāprabhu will never be false. There has been a victory. *Paraṁ vijayate śrī-kṛṣṇa-saṅkīrtanam*. And, before us in the past, many *sannyāsīs* came to America and other countries, but they did not get the victory while preaching in America and other places. This *śrī-kṛṣṇa-saṅkīrtana* is gaining the victory. *Paraṁ vijayate śrī-kṛṣṇa-saṅkīrtanam*. Caitanya Mahāprabhu says:
> pṛthivīte āche yata nagarādi-grāma
> sarvatra pracāra haibe mora nāma
> [CB Antya-khaṇḍa, 4.126]
This is His prophecy. Our preaching of *hari-kīrtana* will spread everywhere in the whole world, this pṛthivīte, in every town and village. This is the prophecy. And it is spreading. you take its advantage. It is easy. *Sthāne sthitāḥ śruti-gatāṁ tanu-vāṅ-manobhir* [[sb/10/14/3|[SB. 10.14.3] ]] You continue to be there in your occupations, there is no need of changing positions. But you do *bhagavat-kīrtana*, and hear about God from the lotus mouth of a devotee.
> śravaṇaṁ kīrtanaṁ viṣṇoḥ
> smaraṇaṁ pāda-sevanam
> [[sb/7/5/23|[SB. 7.5.23] ]]
Please hear from the lotus mouth of a pure devotee; hear from one who has accepted saṅkīrtana as his goal of life; who has renounced everything for God, hear from his lotus mouth.
> satāṁ prasaṅgān mama vīrya-saṁvido
> bhavanti hṛt-karṇa-rasāyanāḥ kathāḥ
> [[sb/3/25/25|[SB. 3.25.25] ]]
When listened from the lotus mouth of a pure devotee, *bhagavad-kathāḥ* acts quickly. And follow the regulative principles. *Bhakti* is: *ādau śraddhā tataḥ sādhu-saṅgaḥ* [[cc/madhya/23/14-15|[Cc. Madhya 23.14-15] ]]. For performing the devotional service you must accept *utsāhāt*, enthusiasm. You must be very enthusiastic that, "I will attain God in this life only". Poverty, one should not be deviated due to poverty. Let us do according to the scriptural injunctions. *Utsāhāt, dhairyāt, niścayād*. With determination, because "I have taken shelter of God", and the God says "whoever takes My shelter I relieve him from the reactions of his sins, and he will never perish." Have faith in this.
> utsāhān niścayād dhairyāt
> tat-tat-karma-pravartanāt
> [Upadeśāmṛta3]
And follow the injunctions mentioned in the scriptures. And sato vṛtteḥ, make vṛtti [consciousness] *sād-ghatu*. Do not spoil the consciousness. *Sato vṛtteḥ sadhu-saṅga*. And associate with devotees. By following these six principles—*utsāhā, dhairyā, niścayād*, acting according to regulative principles, and following—*sato vṛtteḥ*, in company of saintly persons, surely there will be *ṣaḍbhir bhaktiḥ prasidhyati* [*Upadeśāmṛta* 3]. Then your work will be successful in *bhakti-yoga*.
This is our only subject of preaching. Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement makes a person a human being. Like the scriptural injunctions...., see these Americans and Europeans had been engaged from their birth in many sinful activities mentioned in our scriptures. But they have left everything. They have left illicit sex, meat-eating, gambling and intoxication. They have left everything. Pure *Vaiṣṇava*. Only preaching about God. [..] All the time *hari-kīrtana*. Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa, *kīrtanīyaḥ sadā hariḥ*. [[cc/antya/20/21|[Cc. Antya 20.21] ]] Life should be molded in such a way that even while walking on a street, Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare. Such a person. There will not be any hurdle in your work, but the human life will be successful, and attain God. This is the scriptural injunction.
Caitanya Mahāprabhu says: *paraṁ vijayate śrī-kṛṣṇa-saṅkīrtanam, śrī-kṛṣṇa-saṅkīrtanam paraṁ vijaya lābha*. Why? *Ceto-darpaṇa-mārjanaṁ*. More you perform *hari-kīrtana* more will be cleansing of the dirt accumulated in your hearts. *Ceto-darpaṇa-mārjanaṁ*. In other words, all your misconceptions will be washed off. What is misconception? Like *ātma-buddhi*. So far we understand that this body, a physical body is our identity. This misconception will go away. Only by rid of this misconception will you be liberated. *Ceto-darpaṇa-mārjanaṁ bhava-mahā-dāvāgni-nirvāpaṇaṁ. Bhava-mahā-dāvāgni-nirvāpaṇaṁ* means, "you will be liberated." It is called *dāvāgni* in this world, *bhava*. *Dāvāgni* means.., "just like a forest fire." No one goes to light a fire in a forest, but it catches fire by itself. Similarly, everyone in the world wishes that there will be peace, but no one remains peaceful. There will be fire. Somehow or other...., whatever you try to remain in peace, but there will be fire. Therefore it is called: *bhava-mahā-dāvāgni*.
But there is only one solution to this; *mahā-dāvāgni nirvāpaṇaṁ,* to extinguish this fire: *paraṁ vijayate śrī-kṛṣṇa-saṅkīrtanam. ceto-darpaṇa-mārjanaṁ bhava-mahā-dāvāgni-nirvāpaṇaṁ śreyaḥ-kairava-candrikā-vitaraṇaṁ.*
Once this *mahā-dāvāgni* has been *nirvāpaṇaṁ* [extinguished], your ultimate benefit...., like the moon shinning; waxing of the moon gradually after *amāvasyā*, your ultimate benefit.... There are two things in the world. *Śreya* [ultimate benefit] and *preya* [immediate benefit]. Just like these children, they do not know which serious subject matter I am talking about, because they do not know their ultimate benefit, they know only their immediate benefit, to talk. This is what they know. So there are two things in the world. *Preya* means something that our senses like to have. And that which ultimately makes us prosperous is the śreya. So after extinguishing this *bhava-mahā-dāvāgni*, in other words after becoming liberated, your ultimate benefit will gradually emerge. In other words, consciousness and happiness, real happiness,
> ramante yogīnām anante
> sac-cid-ānanda-cirātmanīti
> [[cc/madhya/9/29|[Cc. Madhya 9.29] ]]
*Yogīs* also derive happiness from within their hearts. But a *yogī's* happiness is not real happiness. It is not the sense pleasure.
> sukham ātyantikaṁ yat tad
> buddhi-grāhyam atīndriyam
> [[bg/6/21|[Bg. 6.21] ]]
The real happiness cannot be experienced through blunt senses. *Atīndriya*. When will he be *atīndriya* [self-satisfied]? - When the senses become *tat-paratvena nirmalam* [[cc/madhya/19/170|[Cc. Madhya 19.170] ]] by devotional service, then you get the real happiness with those senses.
> sukham ātyantikaṁ yat tad
> buddhi-grāhyam atīndriyam
Everything is mentioned in the scriptures. If you take it up, you will attain God in this life only. Otherwise if we have lost this life, lived like animals, lived only for eating, sleeping, procreation, and died, then the animal life, women, men [indistinct]
The way one works, *karmaṇā daiva-netreṇa* [[sb/3/31/1|[SB. 3.31.1] ]] [indistinct], that is way as long as we have the human body, as long as our intelligence is in order, perform *hari-kīrtana* according to the injunctions of scriptures. It is very easy in Kali-yuga. You will see, quickly you will experience God.
> ceto-darpaṇa-mārjanaṁ
> bhava-mahā-dāvāgni-nirvāpaṇaṁ
> śreyaḥ-kairava-candrikā-vitaraṇaṁ.
Just like the moon, by daily growing in little amount, it glows fully on the day of *Pūrṇimā*. In the same way, perform *kṛṣṇa-kīrtana*. The *śreyaḥ-candra* [benediction moon] will expand gradually and become full moon. You will attain complete happiness, which you want. *Śreyaḥ-kairava-candrikā-vitaraṇaṁ vidyā-vadhū-jīvanam*. And what is that happiness? Complete knowledge, because *sac-cid-ānanda-vigrahaḥ. Sac-cid*. One can derive happiness only when he is in complete knowledge. Therefore Caitanya Mahāprabhu says: *śreyaḥ-kairava-candrikā-vitaraṇaṁ vidyā-vadhū-jīvanam*. When you attain full knowledge, you experience *sac-cid-ānanda* [transcendental happiness].
> śreyaḥ-kairava-candrikā-vitaraṇaṁ vidyā-vadhū-jīvanam
> ānandāmbudhi-vardhanaṁ prati-padaṁ pūrṇāmṛtāsvādanaṁ
> sarvātma-snapanaṁ paraṁ vijayate śrī-kṛṣṇa-saṅkīrtanam
> [[cc/antya/20/12|[Cc. Antya 20.12] ]]
This has been happening. If you perform *saṅkīrtana* with enthusiasm and determination, you will attain gradually this stage. Those who are already doing they are experiencing. You also do. It is the sublime method in Kali-yuga.
> kaler doṣa-nidhe rājan
> asti hy eko mahān guṇaḥ
> [[sb/12/3/51|[SB. 12.3.51] ]]
This is one good quality. So we have decided to go to Surat tomorrow. [indistinct]. So with God's mercy we will be leaving for Surat tomorrow. And I request you, this *hari-kīrtana*, which we are preaching; it is not new in India. [indistinct] Perform *hari-kīrtana* with pure consciousness, *iti mae prāyaśaḥ*. There are four things to have pure consciousness, as mentioned in the scripture: *pāpa yatra catur-vidhaḥ* [[sb/1/17/38|[SB. 1.17.38] ]]. There are four kinds of sinful activities. Give them up. illicit sex—*striyaḥ, sūnā*, violence against animals, *pānaṁ*—intoxication, *dyūtaṁ*, gambling. Be safe from these. Observe Ekādaśī [indistinct]. *Ekādaśī* falls twice a month, there is no difficulty. Eat fruits and always do *hari-kīrtana*. You will see how your life is becoming success.
It is an easy way. There is no need for you to [indistinct]. It is not possible in Kali-yuga. Scriptures describe Kali-yuga as: *mandāḥ sumanda-matayo manda-bhāgyā* [[sb/1/1/10|[SB. 1.1.10] ]]. The fate of a person is *mandāḥ*—bad. Therefore no other process will work in Kali-yuga, except
> kalau nāsty eva nāsty eva nāsty eva gatir anyathā
> harer nāma harer nāma harer nāmaiva kevalam
> [Cc. Ādi 7.76]
There is no difficulty. You should take it up, as given by Caitanya Mahāprabhu and authorized in scriptures. And the name of God has all potencies. God and His name are non-different. Like God is all powerful so is His holy name.
> nāma cintāmaṇiḥ kṛṣṇaś
> caitanya-rasa-vigrahaḥ
> pūrṇaḥ śuddho nitya-mukto
> 'bhinnatvān nāma-nāminoḥ
> [[cc/madhya/17/133|[Cc. Madhya 17.133] ]]
Everything is mentioned in the scriptures. Caitanya Mahāprabhu. Everything is there. It is a great science. Everything else will gradually be clear if you remain *kīrtanīyaḥ sadā hariḥ.*
> tṛṇād api sunīcena
> taror iva sahiṣṇunā
> [[cc/antya/20/21|[Cc. Antya 20.21] ]]
Just see the Europeans and Americans chant on beads; always chanting. You are afraid that if you go to a market while chanting [indistinct]. There is no difficulty, it is easy. Otherwise, why? Because afraid. Therefore, it is said: tṛṇād api sunīcena. If you are chanting and [indistinct], just tolerate it and continue chanting. He will not be ashamed of carrying a radio in his hand, and if chanting beads are taken then he will not like. Why? People carry radio while travelling, then what is the difficulty in carrying a chanting bead? No. They think that they may be insulted. Therefore Caitanya Mahāprabhu says that even if someone insults you, you tolerate it—*tṛṇād api sunīcena*. How to tolerate? Tolerate like a straw [grass] in street. [indistinct], people step on to it, but it does not complain, *tṛṇād api*. *Tṛṇāt* means, "grass". You tolerate, like it does. *Taror api sahiṣṇunā*. Tree is tolerant; someone picks up flowers from it, someone takes fruits, someone feeds it, but it does not complain. Be tolerant like the trees, and always do *kīrtanīyaḥ sadā hariḥ*. Always chant.
> Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare,
> Hare Rāma Hare Rāma Rāma Rāma Hare Hare
[indistinct] no time for *bhagavad-kīrtana*. Just see these Europeans and Americans. [indistinct] they are not afraid. Police catch them [..], they do *kīrtana*, lets go to police. Now police do not disturb them. They do not say anything to them, as they know that these people are chanting name of God.
> tṛṇād api sunīcena
> taror iva sahiṣṇunā
> amāninā mānadena
> kīrtanīyaḥ sadā hariḥ
> [Cc. Antya, 20.21]
And while doing *kīrtana*, chanting name of God, do offer prayers [indistinct]. "O God, I do not have money, give me money. I am in great trouble, eradicate my trouble." No. Not this prayer. Not this type of prayer. What should be the prayer?
> na dhanaṁ na janaṁ na sundarīṁ
> kavitāṁ vā jagadīśa kāmaye
> mama janmani jamanīśvare
> bhavatād bhaktir ahaitukī tvayi
> [[cc/antya/20/29|[Cc. Antya 20.29] ]]
A devotee does not ask anything from God. He simply prays: "O God, I do not wish to have money, nor do I want followers, nor a beautiful woman". Worldly people want all these, but a devotee does not want all these. What does he want then? *Mama janmani jamanīśvare*, when get birth, he does not want liberation even. His only wish is that: "wherever I take birth, I remain fixed up in devotion at your lotus feet unconditionally". That's all. Unconditionally. "God, I do devotional service for the purpose of asking something from You?" No. [indistinct] why asking something from God? Does He not know what you require? He knows everything. There is no need of asking something. Only perform devotional service.
All desires will be fulfilled. *Akāmaḥ sarva-kāmo vā* [[sb/2/3/10|[SB. 2.3.10] ]]. If you have material desires, God will fulfil those desires as well. You do *kīrtana*. You are doing kīrtana and at the same time want to earn millions of rupees, you continue doing *kīrtana*, your desire will be fulfilled. *Sarva-kāmaḥ*. And if you want liberation, *jñānīs* want liberation. Take this as well. And, *akāmaḥ*. A devotee wants to serve God. Take this also. Then why not worship God? And, a simple way to worship God is:
> Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare,
> Hare Rāma Hare Rāma Rāma Rāma Hare Hare
*Na dhanaṁ na janaṁ*. And what else to pray:
> ayi nanda-tanuja patitaṁ kiṅkaraṁ
> māṁ viṣame bhavāmbudhau
> kṛpayā tava pāda-paṅkaja-
> sthita-dhūlī-sadṛśaṁ vicintaya
> [[cc/antya/20/32|[Cc. Antya 20.32] ]]
It says *ayi nanda-tanuja bhagavān*, [indistinct] Hare Kṛṣṇa, I am Your eternal servant, yet somehow or other I have fallen into the ocean of birth and death. Please pick me up from this and place me as one of the atoms at Your lotus feet".
> ayi nanda-tanuja patitaṁ kiṅkaraṁ
> māṁ viṣame bhavāmbudhau kṛpayā.
*Bhavāmbudhau*, you are thrown into this ocean [indistinct] There is only one remedy for your peacefulness. "Please pick me up". That's all. If you are a strong wrestler; if you know very well how to swim [indistinct] this is completely wrong. The ocean is mighty, you are struggling very hard for happiness. The struggle to swim in an ocean is [indistinct] When the God favours you and picks you up from the ocean, then only there is a peace for you. Otherwise not. Therefore Caitanya Mahāprabhu says:
> ayi nanda-tanuja patitaṁ kiṅkaraṁ
> māṁ viṣame bhavāmbudhau
> kṛpayā tava pāda-paṅkaja-
> sthita-dhūlī-sadṛśaṁ vicintaya
> [[cc/antya/20/32|[Cc. Antya 20.32] ]]
And while thus chanting the holy name of God, when a love of God arises, because this is your ultimate benefit—*premā pumartho mahān* [*Caitanya-manjusa*]. To attain love of God is the only ultimate benefit of life. And for everyone [indistinct].
> nayanaṁ galad-aśru-dhārayā
> vadanaṁ gadgada-ruddhayā girā
> pulakair nicitaṁ vapuḥ kadā
> tava nāma-grahaṇe bhaviṣyati
> [[cc/antya/20/36|[Cc. Antya 20.36] ]]
This is the prayer. If, while chanting the holy name, water rains from our eyes [indistinct]. The only method is: *paraṁ vijayate śrī-kṛṣṇa-saṅkīrtanam*. Just like you... you chant the holy name, you will gradually know everything, and we are trying for advancement of everyone, you co-operate. This knowledge that one becomes happy only by *hari-kīrtana* is very confidential, and to preach this knowledge you all become members. [indistinct] Lead the life accordingly [indistinct] ....International Society for Krishna Consciousness...*kṛṣṇa-bhakti-rasa-bhāvitā matiḥ* [[cc/madhya/8/70|[Cc. Madhya 8.70] ]].... [indistinct]....
Thank you very much. [End].
