# This Age of Kali *On Kali-yuga—the age of quarrel and hypocrisy* --- ### Mandāḥ Sumanda-Matayaḥ > This Age of Kali is *mandāḥ sumanda-matayo manda-bhāgyā hy upadrutāḥ*. These are the symptoms of the persons in this age. First of all they are *mandāḥ*, they are very, very slow. Just like in this human form of life we have got so many responsibilities, self-realization, but they don't care for it. Just like animals, simply they are serious about eating, sleeping, mating and defending, that's all. They have no other responsibilities, they think. These are..., the symptoms are there in the *Bhāgavatam*, *dākṣyaṁ kuṭumba-bharaṇaṁ*. If one man can maintain his family, his wife and two, three children, he is understood to be a very great man. — [[spoken/1970/701231sb.sur|Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 6.1.45–50, Surat, December 31, 1970]] --- ### They Have Lost Everything > Therefore, I decided I shall go to America. They have lost everything—their culture, their civilization, their religion, their mode of living. Simply because it is a great culture, still we find some gentlemen because it is coming out of their heritage. Because a great family, a person belong to a great family, although he becomes poverty-stricken, he cannot give up his family style. That is India's position. Because it belongs to a great civilization, still lingering. Otherwise they have given up. — [[spoken/1972/721227r1.bom|Room Conversation, Bombay, December 27, 1972]] --- ### Everyone Thinks He Will Not Die > Every moment millions of people are dying. *Śeṣāḥ sthāvaram icchanti.* But those who are not dying, he's thinking that "I will not die. I will stay in my this position. Therefore I don't care for anything." This is most wonderful. Everyone is thinking that "I shall continue." He forgets that at any moment he'll be kicked out. — [[spoken/1972/721227r1.bom|Room Conversation, Bombay, December 27, 1972]] --- ### Cheating Propensity > They have been taught how to cheat. Everyone has got a cheating propensity. That is conditioned life. Four defects: to commit mistake, to become illusioned, to cheat and imperfectness of the senses. So cheating propensity everyone has got. So that cheating propensity is being encouraged more and more. Instead of minimizing it or stop it, it is being encouraged. — [[spoken/1973/731231mw.la|Morning Walk, Los Angeles, December 31, 1973]] --- ### Paper Money Inflation > Then everything, solution will be... There will be no inflation. Because I know that paying you a piece of paper, I can cheat you, therefore I am printing notes to cheat so many people. Therefore inflation. But when there will be no possibility to cheat you, then there will be no inflation. Here I have got the opportunity, because I know that I can cheat you by this instrument, so why shall I not increase that? That is inflation. Is it not? This is not psychological? If I know that I can cheat you by this instrument, so there must be inflation. What do you think, Karandhara? — [[spoken/1973/731231mw.la|Morning Walk, Los Angeles, December 31, 1973]] --- ### This World Is Condemned > We are follower of Kṛṣṇa. "This is a place of suffering. And if you come to Me, then your suffering ends." So this world is condemned either by Śaṅkarācārya or others, everyone. But the modern rascals, they have taken this world as everything. Therefore they are in ignorance. Do you follow? They have taken this world, this life of fifty years or sixty years, at most hundred years, as reality. These rascals have no knowledge that we have life after annihilation of this body. *Tathā dehāntara-prāptiḥ*, who knows it? Bring big, big men, big, big politician. — [[spoken/1976/761231iv.bom|Press Interview, Bombay, December 31, 1976]] --- ### Mischievous Activities > The real problem is, Kṛṣṇa says in the *Bhagavad-gītā, janma-mṛtyu-jarā-vyādhi-duḥkha-doṣānudarśanam*. Our real miserable condition of life is birth, death, old age and disease. Where is scientific help to mitigate these miseries? There is no stoppage of birth; there is no stoppage of death; there is no stoppage of disease. You can manufacture very good medicine for disease, but you stop disease. That is not possible. So our so-called meritorious activities in scientific research and education, they have been described in the *Bhagavad-gītā* as *duṣkṛtinaḥ,* mischievous activities. — [[spoken/1974/741227sb.bom|Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 3.26.18, Bombay, December 27, 1974]] --- ### India's Mission > This is India's culture. The whole world is in darkness, and they are risking their life in the transmigration of one body to another, *mṛtyu-saṁsāra-var...*. The rascals do not know what they are doing. They are simply taking account of few years. He does not know that he's eternal. A few years, a fragment, a pass..., passing way, that's all. A passing flash. And *bharam udvahato vimūḍhān.* This is Vaiṣṇava philosophy. This rascal... *Māyā-sukhāya bharam udvahato vimūḍhān. Śoce tato vimukha-cetasa, māyā-sukhāya bharam udvahato vimūḍhān*. This is Vaiṣṇava's concern, that "These, what, rascals, they are doing?" — [[spoken/1977/770521r1.vrn|Room Conversation, Vṛndāvana, May 21, 1977]] --- *8 verified verbatim quotes from Śrīla Prabhupāda on this age of Kali*
