# Pure Devotional Service *On devotion that transcends even liberation* --- ### Surpasses All Kinds of Liberation > So therefore pure devotional service surpasses all kinds of liberation. Caitanya Mahāprabhu also teaches, *mama janmani janmanīśvare bhavatād bhaktir ahaitukī tvayi.* Liberation means no more birth. But Caitanya Mahāprabhu says, *mama janmani janmani—*birth after birth. But the..., a devotee does not want anything of the material things. *Na dhanaṁ na janaṁ na sundarīṁ kavitāṁ vā jagad-īśa kāmaye* [Cc Antya 20.29, Śikṣāṣṭaka 4]. So this pure devotional service is a different subject matter. *Dharmaḥ projjhita-kaitavo atra*. — [[spoken/1973/730131nd.cal|The Nectar of Devotion, Calcutta, January 31, 1973]] --- ### Above Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksa > Ordinary man, they are after *dharma, artha, kāma, mokṣa.* First of all, nowadays, even they do not care for *dharma.* They're animals. Really human life begins when they take to religious principle. *Dharmeṇa hīnāḥ paśubhiḥ samānāḥ* [Hitopadeśa 25]. So *dharma-artha-kāma-mokṣa,* gradually improvement, and devotional service is above *mokṣa.* Therefore *dharmaḥ projjhita-kaitavo atra*. *Kaitavo,* cheating. As soon as there is some motive, that is cheating religion. But *bhakti,* there is no such thing, *dharma, artha, kāma, mokṣa.* It is above, transcendental. — [[spoken/1973/730130nd.cal|The Nectar of Devotion, Calcutta, January 30, 1973]] --- ### Ahaituki Apratihata > Somewhere it has been said suprasīdati and somewhere suprasīdati, this means whatever path of religion you follow, regardless of who you are a Hindu, a Muslim, Christian doesn't matter. The test is that upon following that path of religion, the success will be determined whether or not you achieved devotional service unto the Supreme Personality of Godhead. And what kind of devotional service? *Ahaituki* without any selfish motive, there should be no ulterior motive and neither there is any restriction. It cannot be said that one cannot render devotional service because he is just to poor, or that one is too foolish, or a *mleccha,* or some other reason, a person can give many excuses. But these are material reasons and cannot hinder devotional service. There is no material condition which can check the progress of devotional service. — [[spoken/1971/710130l4.all|Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Madhya 19.149 in Hindi, Allahabad, January 30, 1971]] --- ### Everything for Krishna > So Vaiṣṇava is not envious. If somebody advances more than him, he appreciates: "Oh, he's so nice that he has advanced more than me. I could not serve Kṛṣṇa in such a nice way." That is Vaiṣṇavism. And if one is envious—"Oh, this man is going so fast. Let him..., let us put some impediments on this path"—he's not Vaiṣṇava; he's *hīnasya jantuḥ.* He's animal. Vaiṣṇava cannot be envious. — [[spoken/1973/730130nd.cal|The Nectar of Devotion, Calcutta, January 30, 1973]] --- ### Neither Accept Nor Reject > Therefore one should concentrate upon devotional service. Everything is there. *Sarvārhaṇam acyutejyā*. If you..., one is devotee of Acyuta, everything is complete there. And he's *śānta.* He does not require it. He does not endeavor for it. But because he's *kṛṣṇa-bhakta,* everything follows him. Everything follows him. That *ānanda* is nice. There is no need of showing magic or renouncing this world or accepting this world. These things are not required by *kṛṣṇa-bhakta.* Because if he accepts, it is for Kṛṣṇa. If he rejects, that is for Kṛṣṇa. *Ānukūlyasya saṅkalpa prātikūlyaṁ vivarjanam.* — [[spoken/1973/730129nd.cal|The Nectar of Devotion, Calcutta, January 29, 1973]] --- *5 verified verbatim quotes from Śrīla Prabhupāda on pure devotional service*
