## Chapter XX Other Important Instructions Concerning Preaching ### 1. Regardless of one's material designations, if he understands the science of Kṛṣṇa, he can spread Kṛṣṇa consciousness. kibā vipra, kibā nyāsī, śūdra kene naya yei kṛṣṇa-tattva-vettā, sei 'guru' haya [Cc Madhya [[cc/madhya/8/128|8.128]]] **"Whether one is a brāhmaṇa, a sannyāsi or a sūdra—regardless of what he is—he can become a spiritual master if he knows the science of Kṛṣṇa."** To spread Kṛṣṇa consciousness, one need only be cognizant of the science of the spirit soul. It does not matter whether one is a *brāhmaṇa, kṣatriya, vaiśya, śūdra, sannyāsī, gṛhastha *or whatever. If one simply understands this science, he can become a spiritual master.... There are two kinds of Vaiṣṇavas—*bhajanānandī *and* goṣthyānandī.* A* bhajanānandī *is not interested in preaching work, but a *goṣṭhyānandī* is* *interested in spreading Kṛṣṇa consciousness to benefit the people and increase the number of Vaiṣṇavas.... Unless we accept this principle enunciated by Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement cannot spread all over the world. *Ac*cording to Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu's intentions: *pṛthivīte āche yata nagarādi grāma sarvatra pracāra haibe mora nāma. *[*CB Antya-khaṇḍa* 4.126] Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu's cult must be preached all over the world. This does not mean that people should take to His teachings and remain *śūdras *or *caṇḍālas.* As* *soon as one is trained as a pure Vaiṣṇava, he must be accepted as a bona fide *brāhmaṇa. *This is the essence of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu's instructions in this verse. *— Cc. *Madhya *[[cc/madhya/8/128|8.128]]* ### 2. Preaching is a dynamic activity: The expert devotees also can discover novel ways and means to convert the nondevotees in terms of particular time and circumstance. Devotional service is dynamic activity, and the expert devotees can find out competent means to inject it into the dull brains of the materialistic population. Such transcendental activities of the devotees for the service of the Lord can bring a new order of life to the foolish society of materialistic men. Lord Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu and His subsequent followers exhibited expert dexterity in this connection. By following the same method, one can bring the materialistic men of this age of quarrel into order for peaceful life and transcendental realization. *— *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam *[[sb/1/5/16|1.5.16]]* ### 3. Austerity in preaching work leads to perfection: Severe austerities in the practice of devotional service are of many varieties.... the hard labor involved in preaching, preparing literature, preaching to atheistic men and distributing literature door to door is of course an austerity *(tapo-yuktena). Tapo divyaṁ putrakā* [Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam [[sb/5/5/1|5.5.1]]]*. *Such austerity is necessary. *Yena sattvaṁ śuddhyet. *By such austerity in devotional service, one is purified of material existence *(kāmān śanair jahau). *Indeed, such austerity leads one to the constitutional position of devotional service. In this way one can give up material desires, and as soon as one is freed from material desires, he is free from the repetition of birth and death, old age and disease. *— *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam *[[sb/9/4/26|9.4.26]]* ### 4. The basic principle of missionary activities is that the devotee wants to broadcast information of the Lord to others: The pure devotees are not only satisfied by knowing everything about the Lord, but they are also eager to broadcast the information to others, for they want to see that the glories of the Lord are known to everyone. Thus the devotee feels satisfied when such an opportunity is offered to him. This is the basic principle of missionary activities. *— *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam *[[sb/2/5/9|2.5.9]]* ### 5. The first-class devotee is an expert preacher: Devotees can be divided into three classes. The first or uppermost class is described as follows: one is very expert in the study of relevant scriptures, and he is also expert in putting forward arguments in terms of those scriptures. He can very nicely present conclusions with perfect discretion and can consider the ways of devotional service in a decisive way. He understands perfectly that the ultimate goal of life is to attain to the transcendental loving service of Kṛṣṇa, and he knows that Kṛṣṇa is the only object of worship and love. This first-class devotee is one who has strictly followed the rules and regulations under the training of a bona fide spiritual master and has sincerely obeyed him in accord with revealed scriptures. Thus being fully trained to preach and become a spiritual master himself, he is considered first-class. A first-class devotee never deviates from the principles of higher authority, and he attains firm faith in the scriptures by understanding with all reasons and arguments. When we speak of arguments and reason, it means arguments and reason on the basis of revealed scripture. The first-class devotee is not interested in dry speculative methods meant for wasting time. In other words, one who has attained a mature determination in the matter of devotional service can be accepted as the first-class devotee. *— NOD Ch. 3* ### 6. For preaching Kṛṣṇa consciousness, any material facility may be employed: One should not give up anything which can be utilized in the service of the Lord. That is a secret of devotional service. Anything that can be utilized in advancing Kṛṣṇa consciousness and devotional service should be accepted. For instance, we are using many machines for the advancement of our present Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement, machines like typewriters, dictaphones, tape recorders, microphones and airplanes. Sometimes people ask us, "Why are you utilizing material products if you condemn the advancement of material civilization?" But actually we do not condemn. We simply ask people to do whatever they are doing in Kṛṣṇa consciousness. This is the same principle on which, in the *Bhagavad-gītā, *Kṛṣṇa advised Arjuna to utilize his fighting abilities in devotional service. Similarly, we are utilizing these machines for Kṛṣṇa's service. With such sentiment for Kṛṣṇa, or Kṛṣṇa consciousness, we can accept everything. If the typewriter can be utilized for advancing our Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement, we must accept it. Similarly, the dictaphone or any other machine must be used. Our vision is that Kṛṣṇa is everything. Kṛṣṇa is the cause and effect, and nothing belongs to us. Kṛṣṇa's things must be used in the service of Kṛṣṇa. *— NOD Ch. 14* ### 7. Converting even one person into a devotee assures going back to Godhead: The missionary goal of a devotee is to convert simply one person into a pure devotee. In this way his admission to the spiritual kingdom is guaranteed. *— TLC Ch. 26* ### 8. One who does not take advantage of the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is doomed: **There is now a flood of the eternal nectar of love of Godhead due to the incarnation of Lord Caitanya. All living entities are floating in that flood. The entire world is now thankful to the Lord. Anyone who does not float in this inundation is most condemned. Such a person cannot be delivered for millions of kalpas.** One day of Brahmā is called a *kalpa.* A* yuga, *or *mahā-yuga, *consists of 4,320,000 years, and one thousand such *mahā-yugas *constitute one *kalpa. *The author of *Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta *says that if one does not take advantage of the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, he cannot be delivered for millions of such *kalpas.* *— Cc. *Antya *[[cc/antya/3/254|3.254-255]]* ### 9. The devotee's desire that Kṛṣṇa be known all over the universe is blessed by the Lord: *A *pure devotee of the Lord like Brahmā and those in his line of disciplic succession always desire that the Lord be known all over the universe by each and every one of the living entities. That desire of the devotee is always blessed by the Lord. *— *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam *[[sb/3/9/39|3.9.39]]* ### 10. Qualifications for effective preaching: If a devotee is qualified, sincere and serious about Kṛṣṇa consciousness and if he follows the instructions of a bona fide spiritual master, as Prahlāda Mahārāja did when preaching the instructions he had received from Nārada Muni, his preaching is effective. *— *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam *[[sb/7/8/1|7.8.1]]* ### 11. Success formula for preaching Kṛṣṇa consciousness: One should act only to satisfy the Lord: The first concern of a nondevotee is how to enjoy his personal sense gratification at once, whereas the devotee's first concern is to satisfy the Lord. This is the distinction between the nondevotee and the devotee.... While the demons fight to satisfy their own senses, devotees engage in devotional service to satisfy the senses of the Lord. The members of the Kṛṣna consciousness movement must be alert in regard to this point, and then their preaching of the Kṛsṇa consciousness movement will be successful. *— *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam *[[sb/8/8/38|8.8.38]]* ### 12. Devotees overcome difficulties in preaching work through faith in Kṛṣṇa and the order of the spiritual master: ... sometimes a representative of the Lord engaged in preaching work meets various so-called difficulties. This was exhibited by Lord Nityānanda when He delivered the two fallen souls Jagāi and Mādhāi, and similarly Lord Jesus Christ was crucified by the nonbelievers. But such difficulties are gladly suffered by the devotees in preaching because in such activities, although apparently very severe, the devotees of the Lord feel transcendental pleasure because the Lord is satisfied. Prahlāda Mahārāja suffered greatly, but still he never forgot the lotus feet of the Lord. That is because a pure devotee of the Lord is so purified in his heart that he cannot leave the shelter of Lord Kṛṣṇa in any circumstances. There is no self-interest in such service. The process of culturing knowledge by the *jñānīs *or the bodily gymnastics by the *yogīs *are ultimately given up by the respective performers, but a devotee of the Lord cannot give up the service of the Lord, for he is ordered by his spiritual master. Pure devotees like Nārada and Nityānanda Prabhu take up the order of the spiritual master as the sustenance of life. They do not mind what becomes of the future of their lives. They take the matter very seriously as the order comes from the higher authority, from the representative of the Lord, or from the Lord Himself. *— *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam *[[sb/2/8/6|2.8.6]]* ### 13. Preaching creates an auspicious atmosphere; it must be carefully done: **Any literature or narration in which the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Uttamaśloka, is described and glorified is certainly great, pure, glorious, auspicious and all good.** The Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is spreading all over the world simply by describing Kṛṣṇa. We have published many books, including *Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta *in seventeen volumes, four hundred pages each, as well as *Bhagavad-gītā *and *The Nectar of Devotion. *We are also publishing *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam *in sixty volumes. Wherever a speaker holds discourses from these books and an audience hears him, this will create a good and auspicious situation. Therefore the preaching of Kṛṣṇa consciousness must be done very carefully by the members of the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement, especially the *sannyāsīs. *This will create an auspicious atmosphere. *— *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam *[[sb/8/1/32|8.1.32]]* ### 14. Preaching activities are transcendental: A pure devotee of the Lord, being cognizant of the facts of the particular time, object and circumstances, always desires to expand the number of devotees of the Lord in various ways. Such expansions of transcendental service may appear to be material to the materialist, but factually they are expansions of the causeless mercy of the Lord towards the devotee. Plans for such activities may appear to be material activities, but they are different in potency, being engaged in the satisfaction of the transcendental senses of the Supreme. *— *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam *[[sb/3/9/34|3.9.34]]* ### 15. A preacher must distinguish between devotees and nondevotees: Unless one is a first-class devotee, he cannot be a preacher. A preacher is generally a topmost devotee, but in order to meet the general populace, he has to come to distinguish between devotees and nondevotees. Otherwise, an advanced devotee makes no such distinctions. Indeed, he always sees everyone engaged in the service of the Lord. When one engages in preaching work, he must distinguish between people and understand that some people are not engaged in devotional service of the Lord. The preacher then has to take compassion upon such innocent people who do not know how to worship the Lord. *— Cc. *Madhya *[[cc/madhya/8/44|8.44]]* ### 16. Mature disciples should preach, allowing the spiritual master to retire to write and execute nirjana-bhajana: Everyone should be engaged in preaching the cult of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. In other words, when disciples are grown up and are able to preach, the spiritual master should retire and sit down in a solitary place to write and execute *nirjana-bhajana. *This means sitting silently in a solitary place and executing devotional service. This *nirjana-bhajana, *which is the silent worship of the Supreme Lord, is not possible for a neophyte devotee.... Only when one is mature can he sit in a solitary place and retire from preaching all over the world. Following this example, the devotees of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness now render service as preachers in various parts of the world. Now they can allow the spiritual master to retire from active preaching work. In the last stage of the spiritual master's life, the devotees of the spiritual master should take preaching activities into their own hands. In this way the spiritual master can sit down in a solitary place and render *nirjana-bhajana.* *— *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam *[[sb/4/28/33|4.28.33]]* ### 17. The purpose of selling books (and all activities in Kṛṣṇa consciousness) is to remember Kṛṣṇa: There are many regulative principles in the *śāstras *and directions given by the spiritual master. These regulative principles should act as servants of the basic principle—that is, one should always remember Kṛṣṇa and never forget Him. This is possible when one chants the Hare Kṛṣṇa *mantra.... *One may have other duties to perform under the direction of the spiritual master, but he must first abide by the spiritual master's order to chant a certain number of rounds.... Of all the regulative principles, the spiritual master's order to chant at least sixteen rounds is most essential. One may sell books or enlist life members or render some other service, but these duties are not ordinary duties. These duties serve as an impetus for remembering Kṛṣṇa. When one goes with a *saṅkīrtana *party or sells books, he naturally remembers that he is going to sell Kṛṣṇa's books. In this way, he is remembering Kṛṣṇa....The conclusion is that one must act in such a way that he will always remember Kṛṣṇa, and one must refrain from doing things that make him forget Kṛṣna. These two principles form the basic background of Krṣna consciousness. *— Cc. *Madhya *[[cc/madhya/22/113|22.113]]* ### 18. Opposition to saṅkīrtana indicates its purity and genuineness: **"No one should perform saṅkīrtana on the streets of the city. Today I am excusing the offense and returning home."** Such orders stopping *saṅkīrtana *in the streets of the world's great cities have been imposed upon members of the Hare Kṛṣṇa movement.... In most cities of the Western world we have been arrested many times by the police.... We must remember that such incidents took place in the past, five hundred years ago, and the fact that they are still going on indicates that our *saṅkīrtana *movement is really authorized, for if *saṅkīrtana *were an insignificant material affair, demons would not object to it. The demons of the time tried to obstruct the *saṅkīrtana *movement started by Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. Similar demons are trying to obstruct the *saṅkīrtana *movement we are executing all over the world, and this proves that our *saṅkīrtana *movement is still pure and genuine, following in the footsteps of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. *— Cc. Ā*di *[[cc/adi/17/127|17.127]]* ### 19. Preaching Kṛṣṇa consciousness can save the Western students: The Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is very eager to present Vedic literature in modern languages, especially Western languages such as English, French and German.... The entire world is imitating the materialistic civilization of the West, and therefore the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is very much interested in giving the Western people knowledge by translating the original Sanskrit Vedic literatures into Western languages.... ... The people of the West are seeing their students becoming hippies, despite gorgeous arrangements for university education. The Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement, however, is trying to convert misguided, drug-addicted students to the service of Kṛṣṇa and engage them in the best welfare activities for human society. *— *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam *[[sb/6/5/18|6.5.18]]* ### 19a. Hearing, preaching and remembering the glories of the Lord brings fearlessness: It is one's duty to understand the Supreme Personality of Godhead through the hearing process. This is called *śrotavyaḥ. *If one has heard properly about the Supreme Personality of Godhead, his duty is to glorify the Lord and preach His glories. This is called *kīrtitavyaḥ. *When one hears about the Lord and glorifies Him, it is natural to think of Him. This is called *smartavyaḥ. *All this must be carried out if one actually wants to be immune from fear. *— Cc. *Madhya *[[cc/madhya/22/113|22.110]]* ### 20. Preacher-book-distributors are not beggars but are performing highest welfare activity: A *sannyāsī *is* *supposed to beg from door to door. He does not beg simply because he is hungry. His real purpose is to enlighten the occupant of every house by preaching Kṛṣṇa consciousness.... Although the Gosvāmīs were very aristocratic, they became mendicants just to deliver the fallen souls according to the order of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. One should also consider that those who engage in the missionary activities of Kṛṣṇa consciousness are under the guidance of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu They are not actually beggars; their real business is to deliver fallen souls. Therefore they may go from door to door just to introduce a book about Kṛṣṇa consciousness so that people can become enlightened by reading. Formerly *brahmacārīs *and *sannyāsīs *used to beg from door to door. At the present moment, especially in the Western countries, a person may be handed over to the police if he begs from door to door. In Western countries, begging is considered criminal. Members of the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement have no business begging. Instead, they work very hard to introduce some literatures about Krṣna consciousness so that people can read them and be benefited. However, if one gives some contribution to a Kṛṣṇa conscious man, he never refuses it. *— Cc. *Madhya *[[cc/madhya/8/39|8.39]]* ### 21. Preachers should preach where the situation is favorable: ... people are really interested in preaching in a favorable situation. If the candidates for conversion are too disturbing, a preacher may not attempt to spread Kṛṣṇa consciousness amongst them. It is better to go where the situation is more favorable. This Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement was first attempted in India, but the people of India, being absorbed in political thoughts, did not take to it.... We preferred, therefore, to come to the West, following the order of our spiritual master, and by the grace of Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu this movement is becoming successful. *— Cc. *Madhya* [[cc/madhya/7/109|7.109]]* ### 22. Preaching of Kṛṣṇa consciousness angers demons: It is said in *Hitopadeśa, upadeśo hi mūrkhāṇāṁ prakopāya na śāntaye. *If good instructions are given to a foolish person, he does not take advantage of them, but becomes more and more angry. Prahlāda Mahārāja's authorized instructions to his father were not accepted by Hiraṇyakaśipu as truth; instead Hiraṇyakaśipu became increasingly angry at his great son, who was a pure devotee. This kind of difficulty always exists when a devotee preaches Kṛṣṇa consciousness to persons like Hiraṇyakaśipu, who are interested in money and women. *— *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam *[[sb/7/8/11|7.8.11]]* ### 23. Preaching as spreading nāma-saṅkirtana: Chanting of the Hare Kṛṣṇa *mahā-mantra *is* *potent always, but it is especially potent in this Age of Kali. Therefore Śukadeva Gosvāmī, while instructing Mahārāja Parīkṣit, stressed this chanting of the Hare Kṛṣṇa *mantra.* kaler doṣa-nidhe rājann asti hy eko mahān guṇaḥ kīrtanād eva kṛṣṇasya mukta-saṅgaḥ paraṁ vrajet **"My dear king, although Kali-yuga is full of faults, there is still one good quality about this age. It is that simply by chanting the Hare Kṛṣna *mahā-mantra, *one can become free from material bondage and be promoted to the transcendental kingdom." *(Bhāg** *[[sb/12/3/51|12.3.51]])** Those who have accepted the task of spreading the Hare Kṛṣṇa *mahā-mantra *in full Kṛṣṇa consciousness should take this opportunity to deliver people very easily from the clutches of material existence. Our duty, therefore, is to follow the instructions of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu and preach the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement all over the world very sincerely. This is the best welfare activity for the peace and prosperity of human society. Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu's movement consists of spreading *kṛṣṇa-saṅkīrtana. Paraṁ vijayate śrī-kṛṣṇa-saṅkīrtanam: *"All glories to the Śrī Kṛṣṇa *saṅkīrtana*!"* *Why is it so glorious? This has also been explained by Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. *Ceto-darpaṇa-mārjanam:* [Cc Antya [[cc/antya/20/12|20.12]]]* *by the chanting of the Hare Kṛṣṇa *mahā-mantra, *one's heart is cleansed. The whole difficulty is that in this Age of Kali there is no *sattva-guṇa *and no clearance of the heart, and therefore people are making the mistake of identifying with their bodies. Even the big philosophers and scientists with whom we deal are practically all under the impression that they are their bodies... Thus the most dangerous of the dirty things within our hearts is this misidentification of the body as the self.... This misconception is the strongest impediment, and it must be removed. That is the instruction of *Bhagavad-gītā *and of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu.... Caitanya Mahāprabhu therefore says, *ceto-darpaṇa-mārjanam* [Cc Antya [[cc/antya/20/12|20.12]]]*.* To* *cleanse the core of the heart, which is full of misunderstanding, is possible only through *śrī-kṛṣṇa-saṅkīrtana. *The leaders of the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement should very seriously take this opportunity to be kind to the fallen souls by delivering them from the misunderstanding of materialistic life.... ... The *saṅkīrtana *movement, therefore, is a great opportunity. Simply by hearing *Bhagavad-gītā *and chanting the Hare Kṛṣṇa *mahā-mantra, *one becomes completely purified. Thus the struggle for existence ceases, and one goes back home, back to Godhead. *— *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam *[[sb/8/5/23|8.5.23]]* ### 24. Preachers of Kṛṣṇa consciousness as paramahaṁsas: Understanding that the Supreme Personality of Godhead is the friend of everyone *(suhṛdaṁ sarva-bhūtānām* [Bg [[bg/5/29|5.29]]]*), *they [devotees] act as friends of everyone on behalf of the Supreme Lord. Making no distinction between one nation and another or one community and another, they preach Kṛṣṇa consciousness, the teachings of *Bhagavad-gītā, *everywhere. Thus they are competent to see the lotus feet of the Lord. Such preachers in Kṛṣṇa consciousness are called *paramahaṁsas. *As indicated by the word *vimukta-saṅga, *they have nothing to do with material conditions. One must take shelter of such a devotee in order to see the Supreme Personality of Godhead. *— *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam *[[sb/8/3/7|8.3.7]]* ### 25. The Lord assists a pure devotee attempting to deliver conditioned souls: ... a devotee is always engaged in preaching to deliver conditioned souls.... A pure devotee of the Supreme Personality of Godhead is always thinking of how fallen conditioned souls can be delivered. The Supreme Personality of Godhead, influenced by the merciful devotees' attempt to deliver fallen souls, enlightens the people in general from within by His causeless mercy. *— *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam *[[sb/4/29/46|4.29.46]]* ### 26. The success of ISKCON preaching activities (book distribution) is due to faith in previous ācāryas: The secret of success in advancement in spiritual life is the firm faith of the disciple in the orders of his spiritual master.... The Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is being propagated according to this principle, and therefore our preaching work is going on successfully, in spite of the many impediments offered by antagonistic demons, because we are getting positive help from our previous *ācāryas.... *the success of the ISKCON party, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, which strictly follows *guru *and Gaurānga, is increasing daily all over the world. Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura wanted to print as many books as possible and distribute them all over the world. We have tried our best in this connection, and we are getting results beyond our expectations. *— Cc. Ā*di *[[cc/adi/12/8|12.8]]* ### 1. How the ordinary citizen can engage in preaching: ... The citizens of the state must give in charity up to fifty percent of their income for the purpose of creating a spiritual atmosphere in the state or in human society, both individually and collectively. They should preach the principles of *Bhāgavatam *by (a) *karma-yoga, *or doing everything for the satisfaction of the Lord, (b) regular hearing of the *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam *from authorized persons or realized souls, (c) chanting of the glories of the Lord congregationally at home or at places of worship, (d) rendering all kinds of service to *bhāgavatas *engaged in preaching *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam *and (e) residing in a place where the atmosphere is saturated with God consciousness. If the state is regulated by the above process, naturally there will be God consciousness everywhere. *— *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam *[[sb/1/17/38|1.17.38]]* Chapter XXI Concluding Words **Among His own associates, Śrī Caitanya Mahiprabhu laughingly said, "I came here to sell My emotional ecstatic love. Although I came to Vārāṇasī to sell My goods, there were no customers, and it appeared necessary for Me to carry them back to My own country. All of you were feeling unhappy that no one was purchasing My goods and that I would have to carry them away. Therefore, by your will only, I have distributed them without charging."** When we began distributing the message of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu in the Western countries, a similar thing happened. In the beginning we were very disappointed for at least one year because no one came forth to help this movement, but by the grace of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, some young boys joined this movement in 1966. Of course we distributed Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu's message of the Hare Kṛṣṇa *mahā-mantra *without bargaining or selling. As a result, this movement has spread all over the world, with the assistance of European and American boys and girls. We therefore pray for all the blessings of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu upon all the devotees in the Western world who are spreading this movement. *— Cc. *Madhya *[[cc/madhya/25/168|25.168-170]]* Fortunately, even at our first meeting, His Divine Grace advised me to preach the cult of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu in English in the Western countries.... I was...convinced that Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu's message is the only panacea for suffering humanity. I was also convinced that the message of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu was then in the hands of a very expert devotee and that surely the message of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu would spread all over the world.... I took his words very seriously and was always thinking how to execute his order... ... If there is any credit to my activities of translating, it is all due to His Divine Grace.... I am confident that he is very pleased by this work of translation. He was very fond of seeing many books published to spread the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement. Therefore our society, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, has formed to execute the order of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu and His Divine Grace Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura.... ... On this occasion, therefore, I request my disciples who are determined to help me in this work to continue their cooperation fully, so that philosophers, scholars, religionists and people in general all over the world will benefit by reading our transcendental literatures such as *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam *and *Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta.* *— Cc. *Antya-līlā, *"Concluding Words"* Spiritual Master and the DiscipleVB25
