# Rāma-navamī
> Appearance of Lord Rāmacandra
**Observed:** Navamī (9th day) of the waxing moon in Caitra (March-April)
---
## Significance
Rāma-navamī celebrates the appearance of Lord Rāmacandra, the seventh avatāra of Lord Viṣṇu. Lord Rāma appeared in the Tretā-yuga as the son of Mahārāja Daśaratha and Queen Kauśalyā in the kingdom of Ayodhyā.
Lord Rāma is the ideal king, the ideal son, the ideal husband, and the ideal master. His pastimes demonstrate the principles of dharma and devotion.
---
## The Ideal King
> Lord Rāmacandra became King during Tretā-yuga, but because of His good government, the age was like Satya-yuga. Everyone was religious and happy.
