Madhya 6.181 ## Text > svāgamaiḥ kalpitais tvaṁ ca > janān mad-vimukhān kuru > māṁ ca gopaya yena syāt > sṛṣṭir eṣottarottarā ## Synonyms *sva*-*āgamaiḥ*—with your own theses; *kalpitaiḥ*—imagined; *tvam*—you; *ca*—also; *janān*—the people in general; *mat*-*vimukhān*—averse to Me and addicted to fruitive activities and speculative knowledge; *kuru*—make; *mām*—Me, the Supreme Personality of Godhead; *ca*—and; *gopaya*—just cover; *yena*—by which; *syāt*—there may be; *sṛṣṭiḥ*—material advancement; *eṣā*—this; *uttara*-*uttarā*—more and more. ## Translation **“ '[Addressing Lord Śiva, the Supreme Personality of Godhead said,] Please make the general populace averse to Me by imagining your own interpretation of the Vedas. Also, cover Me in such a way that people will take more interest in advancing material civilization just to propagate a population bereft of spiritual knowledge.'** ## Purport This is a quotation from the *Padma Purāṇa, Uttara-khaṇḍa* (62.31).
