The Spiritual Worlds

![[0023_SB-1-1-front.jpg]]
*The original spiritual planet, which resembles the whorl of a huge lotus flower, is called Goloka Vṛndāvana. It is the abode of Lord Kṛṣṇa, the original Personality of Godhead. This original planet of Goloka throws off a spiritual effulgence called the brahmajyoti, within which are unlimited numbers of spiritual planets, or Vaikuṇṭhalokas. The conception
of spiritual bliss (brahmānanda) is fully present in those planets. Each of them is eternal, indestructible, and free from all kinds of inebrieties experienced in the material world. Each of them is self-illuminating and more powerfully dazzling than (if we can imagine) the total sunshine of millions of mundane suns. The inhabitants of those planets have full knowledge of everything; they are all godly and free from all sorts of material hankerings. They have nothing to do there except to render transcendental loving service to the Supreme Lord Nārāyaṇa, who is the predominating Deity in every Vaikuṇṭha planet. The Lord and His eternal servitors in the transcendental kingdom all have eternal forms, which are auspicious, infallible, spiritual, and eternally youthful. In other words, they do not experience birth, death, old age, or disease. Thus that eternal land is full of transcendental enjoyment, beauty, and bliss.*

Radha and Krsna and Their Gopis

![[0026_SB-9_1_6.jpg]]
*In Vṛndāvana, although Lord Kṛṣṇa is full in Himself, He wants the cooperation of His devotees, such as the gopīs, to increase His transcendental bliss. These devotees are most dear to Him.*

Krsna on the Yamuna

![[0027_SB-1_3_9.jpg]]
*Śrī Kṛṣṇa, a mindenkit vonzó Istenség Legfelsőbb Személyiesége. Csodálatos formáját az esőfelhők kék színe árnyalja, szemei olyanok, akéar a nyīló lótuszvirág szirmai, fejét pedig a leggyönyörűbb pávatol díszíti.*

Krsna and Balarama Glorify Vrndavana

![[0027_TLC-15.jpg]]
*In the company of His elder brother, Balarāma, Lord Kṛṣṇa takes pleasure in glorifying the land of Vṛndāvana, its inhabitants and Balarāma Himself.*

The Gopis in the Madness of Separation

![[0027_TLC-24.jpg]]
*“Lord Caitanya mistook a garden for Vṛndāvana and very quickly entered
it. Absorbed in ecstatic love of Kṛṣṇa, He wandered through the garden in the mood of the gopīs. After Kṛṣṇa disappeared with Rādhārāṇī during the rāsa dance, the gopīs wandered in the forest looking for Him.
The gopīs said, ‘O cūta tree, priyāla tree, panasa, āsana and kovidāra! O jambū tree, O arka tree, O bel, bakula and mango! O kadamba tree, O nīpa tree and all other trees living on the bank of the Yamunā for the welfare of others, please let us know where Kṛṣṇa has gone. We have lost
our minds and are almost dead. O tulasī! O mālatī! O yūthī, mādhavī and mallikā! Kṛṣṇa is very dear to you. Therefore He must have come near you. You are all just like dear friends to us. Kindly tell us which way Kṛṣṇa has gone and save our lives!’”*

Radha-Krsna

Krsna and a Dancing Peacock

![[0029_TLC-12.jpg]]
*“Even the impersonalists will become attracted to the personal form of Kṛṣṇa known as Śyāmasundara.” The transcendental form of the Lord is not material. It is composed of the spiritual elements of external existence (sat), full knowledge (cit), and complete bliss (ānanda). It also possesses unlimited opulences.*

The Bathing Ceremony of Lord Krsna

![[0047_SB-10-2-2.jpg]]
*Just after baby Kṛṣṇa turned three months old, mother Yaśodā saw that He was slanting His body in an attempt to rise and turn around. To celebrate this auspicious occasion, she arranged to observe the Vedic ceremony called utthāna, a bathing ceremony performed when a child is
due to leave the house for the first time. So Mother Yaśodā called together the other women of the neighborhood to assist her, and the brāhmaṇas joined by chanting Vedic hymns while professional musicians played their instruments and sang.*

*EN KB 2018 one-vol: Once, Tṛṇāvarta, a demon with mystic powers, appeared in Vṛndāvana in the form of a great whirlwind and carried baby Kṛṣṇa aloft to kill Him.
But to the amazement of all, Kṛṣṇa easily killed the demon and was totally
unharmed.*

Radha-Krsna and the Principal Gopis

![[0048_SB-10-6-2.jpg]]
*In the Sanskrit classic Brahma-saṁhitā, Lord Brahmā, the first created being in the universe, states, “I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, who resides in His own realm, Goloka, with Rādhā, who resembles His own spiritual figure and who embodies the ecstatic potency hlādinī. Their companions are Her confidantes, who embody extensions of Her bodily form and who are imbued and permeated with ever-blissful spiritual rasa.” The gopīs assist Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa in Their transcendental pastimes, expertly using their talents to increase the Divine Couple’s spiritual pleasure.*

Krsna Blesses the Fruit Vendor

![[0049_SB-10-2-13.jpg]]
*EN KB 2018: One day, a fruit vendor came to Nanda Mahārāja’s house. Hearing the vendor call, child Kṛṣṇa took grains in His palms and went to exchange them for fruits.
But His palms were small and He was not careful to hold the grains tightly, so He
dropped many of them. The fruit vendor saw this and was captivated by the child’s beauty, so she accepted whatever grains were left and filled His hands with fruits. In the meantime, her basket of fruit became filled with jewels.*

Krsna and Balarama and the Name-giving Ceremony

![[0049_SB-10-2-5.jpg]]
*One day Vasudeva inspired Gargamuni, the family priest of the Yadu dynasty, to go to Nanda Mahārāja’s house in Vṛndāvana and perform the name-giving ceremony for Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma. To keep the ceremony
hidden from King Kaṁsa, Nanda Mahārāja requested Gargamuni to perform it in Nanda's very secluded cowshed. As Gargamuni cradled baby
Kṛṣṇa in his hands, he said to Nanda Mahārāja, “To increase the transcendental
bliss of the cowherd men of Gokula, this child Kṛṣṇa will always act auspiciously for you. And by His grace only, you will surpass all difficulties. Demons cannot harm the demigods, who always have Lord
Viṣṇu on their side. Similarly, any person or group attached to Kṛṣṇa is extremely fortunate. Because such persons are very much affectionate toward Kṛṣṇa, they cannot be defeated by demons like the associates of Kaṁsa. O Nanda Mahārāja, in His transcendental qualities, opulence,
name, fame and influence, this child of yours is exactly like Nārāyaṇa.
You should therefore raise Him very carefully and cautiously."*

Makhancora

![[0049_SB-10-2-6.jpg]]
*Kṛṣṇa would sometimes enter the house of a neighbor and steal curd, butter and milk from the pots in the storeroom. Then the cowherd men would find Him and angrily say, “Here is the butter thief! Better capture
Him!” But Kṛṣṇa would simply go on eating the curd and butter, and when He smiled at the cowherd men they would forget everything.*

Mother Yasoda Chases Krsna

Krsna Confronts the Baka Demon

![[0050_SB-10-2-14.jpg]]
*EN KB 2018: While the boys and calves were sitting on the bank of the Yamunā, they saw a huge heron as big as a hill. The name of this beast was Bakāsura, and he was a friend of Kaṁsa’s. The bird attacked Kṛṣṇa with his pointed, sharp beak. All the boys fell in despair. But Bakāsura didn’t know that
although Kṛṣṇa was playing the part of a child He was the original father of the universe. Kṛṣṇa caught hold of the two halves of the gigantic heron’s beak and bifurcated his mouth as easily as a child splits a blade of grass.*

Krsna Opens His Mouth and Shows His Mother the Universe

![[0050_SB-10-2-7.jpg]]
*EN KB 2018 one-vol: Once, Mother Yaśodā instructed Kṛṣṇa to open His mouth so she could see whether He had eaten dirt. She was astonished to see everything within the entire universe, including her very self.*

Radha and Krsna on the Swing

![[0050_SB-10-6-5.jpg]]
*EN KB 2018 one-vol: Vṛndāvana is a beautiful place. The Yamunā River blooms with lotuses, and the gentle breeze raises small ripples in the water. Bumblebees hum in the flowers, and peacocks dance as Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa glide on a flower-wrapped swing hanging from a tree, Their faces filled with the happiness of divine love.*

The Reunion

![[0051_IS-4.jpg]]
*When the gopīs saw that their dearmost Kṛṣṇa had returned to them, they became ecstatic, and out of their affection for Him their eyes bloomed wide. It was as if the air of life had reentered their bodies.*

The Deliverance of the Yamala-Arjuna Trees

![[0051_SB-10-2-11.jpg]]
*EN KB 2018 one-vol: Bound to the wooden mortar, child Kṛṣṇa proceeded toward the twin arjuna trees, which were actually the sons of Kuvera, in order to fulfill the prophecy of Nārada Muni. Although He was able to pass between them, the large wooden mortar stuck horizontally, and with great strength He pulled the rope tied to the mortar. The two trees, with all their branches and limbs, fell with a crash. Out of the broken, fallen trees came two great personalities, shining like blazing fire,
who bowed before little Kṛṣṇa.*

Aghasura Swallows the Cowherd Boys

![[0052_SB-10-2-15.jpg]]
*The cowherd boys entered the mouth of the serpent Aghāsura in a playful
mood, supremely confident that Kṛṣṇa would protect them.*

Krsna Enjoys Lunch with the Cowherd Boys

![[0052_SB-10-3-1.jpg]]
*After selecting a pleasing location on the riverbank, Lord Kṛṣṇa and His friends opened their baskets of food and began eating in great transcendental pleasure. Like the whorl of a lotus flower surrounded by its petals and leaves, Kṛṣṇa sat in the center, encircled by lines of His friends, who all looked very beautiful. Every one of them was trying to look forward toward Kṛṣṇa, thinking that Kṛṣṇa might look toward him. Among the cowherd boys, some placed their lunch on flowers, some on leaves, fruits, or bunches of leaves, some actually in their baskets, some
on the bark of trees and some on rocks. This is what the children imagined to be their plates as they ate their lunch. All the cowherd boys enjoyed their lunch with Kṛṣṇa, showing one another the different tastes of the different varieties of preparations they had brought from home.
Tasting one another’s preparations, they began to laugh and make one another laugh. In this way they all enjoyed their lunch in the forest.*

The Cowherd Men and Boys at the Foot of Govardhana Hill

![[0052_SB-10-3-2.jpg]]
*EN KB one-vol 2018: One day, Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma were herding the calves in the forest when They saw cows grazing on the top of Govardhana Hill. The cows could see into
the valley and, upon seeing their calves, they became so melted with affection
that they leaped downhill to join them, not caring about the rough path. The
men taking care of the cows tried to stop them, but when they saw their own
children they too were overwhelmed with an astonishing affection, and lifted
and embraced their sons.*

Lord Krsna Bewilders Brahma

Brahma Offers Obeisances to Lord Krsna

![[0052_SB-10-3-4.jpg]]
*Brahmā said, “My dear Kṛṣṇa, Your name suggests that You are all-attractive. The attraction of the sun and the moon are due to You. By the attraction of the sun You beautify the existence of the Yadu dynasty. By the attraction of the moon You enhance the potency of the land, demigods, brāhmaṇas, cows, and oceans. Because of Your supreme attraction, demons like Kaṁsa are annihilated. You are the only worshipable Deity within the creation. Accept my humble obeisances until the annihilation of this material world. As long as there is sunshine in this world, kindly accept my humble obeisances.”*

Radha Offers Flowers to Krsna

![[0052_SB-10-6-3.jpg]]
*When Kṛṣṇa disappeared from the rāsa dance, taking Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī with Him, the other gopīs said, “Certainly that particular gopī has perfectly worshiped the all-powerful Personality of Godhead, Govinda, since He was so pleased with Her that He abandoned the rest of us and brought Her to a secluded place.”*

Mother Yasoda Dresses Krsna

![[0053_AB-C49.jpg]]
*“Kṛṣṇa's younger friends assist Mother Yaśodā in dressing Him.” The spiritual world is full of ever-increasing love for the Supreme Lord. There is no way to measure the love and devotion Kṛṣṇa’s devotees feel for Him.*

![[0067_BG--27.jpg]]
*8.21: Kṛṣṇa brings His thousands of surabhi cows home at the end of the day. “That which the Vedāntists describe as unmanifest and infallible, that which is know as the supreme destination, that place from which, having attained it, one never returns – that is My supreme abode.”*

Yasoda Binds Krsna

![[0080_SB-1-2-3.jpg]]
*With maternal affection, Queen Kuntī here remembers another of Lord Kṛṣṇa's bewildering pastimes. One day, the Lord, playing just like a human child, spoiled the stocked butter of Mother Yaśodā by breaking the pots and distributing the contents to His friends and playmates, including the celebrated monkeys of Vṛndāvana, who took full advantage of the Lord's munificence. Mother Yaśodā saw this, and out of her pure love she wanted to make a show of punishment for her transcendental child. She took a rope and threatened to tie Him up, as is generally done with ordinary children who have been naughty. Seeing the rope in her hands, the Lord bowed down His head and began to weep, and as tears rolled down His cheeks they washed off the black ointment smeared about His beautiful eyes. Because Queen Kuntī felt maternal love for Kṛṣṇa, she adored this image of Him. But because she knew Kṛṣṇa's supreme position, she was amazed that although He was feared by fear personified, He appeared to be afraid of His mother, who wanted to punish Him just like an ordinary child.*

Vasudeva Carries Krsna to Vrndavana

![[0080_SB-10-1-5.jpg]]
*EN KB 2018 one-vol: The Lord told Vasudeva and Devakī, “I know you are afraid of Kaṁsa and want to protect Me. Take Me to Gokula and exchange Me for the daughter just born to Yaśodā.” While carrying child Kṛṣṇa across the storm-tossed river Yamunā, Vasudeva
was sheltered by the hoods of Lord Śeṣa, an expansion of the Supreme Personality
of Godhead. The effulgence from Kṛṣṇa’s body dissipated the darkness so Vasudeva could find his way.*

their nakedness with their hands. Their simple presentation was so pure that
Lord Kṛṣṇa immediately became pleased with them. All the unmarried gopīs had
prayed to goddess Kātyāyanī to have Kṛṣṇa as their husband, and in this way
they were satisfied. Nothing can compare with the Kṛṣṇa consciousness of the gopīs.*

The great sage Śukadeva Gosvāmī said, “The Supreme Personality of Godhead looked over the forest, which resounded with the charming sounds of bees, animals and birds, and which was enhanced by a lake whose clear water resembled the minds of great souls and by a breeze carrying the fragrance of hundred-petaled lotuses.
Krsna and the Cowherd Boys Swinging in the Forest

![[0157_QK-7.jpg]]
*Queen Kuntī was somewhat bewildered by Kṛṣṇa's humanlike pastimes, especially HIs childhood pastimes in Vṛndāvana. For example, the cowherd boys of Vṛndāvana were able to play with Him just as if He were an ordinary human child. Of course, neither they nor Kṛṣṇa were ordinary boys. The great sages who took birth as Kṛṣṇa's friends had spent many, many previous lives performing severe penances and austerities. Thus when Kṛṣṇa appeared in Vṛndāvana, India, some fifty centuries ago they were awarded the greatest possible benediction – the opportunity to play with the Supreme Personality of Godhead on an equal level. By Kṛṣṇa's special mercy they did not know that He was the Supreme Personality of Godhead; they simply loved Kṛṣṇa, and this was true of everyone in Vṛndāvana at the time of Kṛṣṇa's advent. Kṛṣṇa's father and mother loved Kṛṣṇa; Kṛṣṇa's girlfriends loved Kṛṣṇa; the trees loved Kṛṣṇa; the water loved Kṛṣṇa; the flowers, the cows, the calves – everyone and everything loved Kṛṣṇa. Not surprisingly, even a great devotee like Queen Kuntī could not fully fathom these wonderful relationships between Kṛṣṇa and His most intimate associates.*

I entered the bower just behind Kṛṣṇa, My ears captivated by the sound of His ornaments. I saw Kṛṣṇa and the gopīs enjoying all kinds of pastimes while laughing and joking together. and flowers. The gopīs and maidservants in the bowers of Vṛndāvana pick these fruits and flowers and bring them before Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa. The gopīs peeled all the fruits and placed them together on large plates on a platform in the jeweled cottage. They arranged the fruit in orderly rows for eating, and in front of it they made a place to sit. Among the fruits were many varieties of coconut and mango, bananas, berries, jackfruits, dates, tangerines, oranges, blackberries, santarās, grapes, almonds and all kinds of dried fruit. There were cantaloupes, kṣirikās, palm fruits, keśuras, water fruits, lotus fruits, bael, pīlu, pomegranate and many others. Some
of them are variously known in different places, but in Vṛndāvana they are always available in so many thousands of varieties that no one can fully describe them. At home Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī had made various types of sweetmeats from milk and sugar, such as gaṅgājala, amṛtakeli, pīyuṣagranthi, karpūrakeli, sarapūrī, amṛti,

*The foolish deride the Supreme Lord, Śrī Kṛṣṇa, when He descends in the form of a human being. They do not know His transcendental nature and His supreme dominion over all that be.*

Radha-Gopinatha with the Gopis

![[Mad-1-2.jpg]]
*Kṛṣṇadāsa Kavirāja prays, “May Gopīināthajī, who attracts all the gopīs with the song of His flute, be merciful upon us.”*

The Six Gosvamis

Krsna Plays His Flute With a Calf

*“O Kṛṣṇa, the player of the flute, the sweetness of Your early age is wonderful within these three worlds.”*

Krsna Carries His Father's Wooden Shoes

![[Mad-2-9.jpg]]
*EN SB 10.2 1977: In any situation, Kṛṣṇa is always the infinitely powerful Supreme Personality of Godhead. But just to increase the ecstatic emotion of His intimate,
loving devotees like Mother Yaśodā and Nanda Mahārāja, Kṛṣṇa agrees to come under their control. Sometimes Nanda Mahārāja would ask Kṛṣṇa to bring him his wooden slippers, and Kṛṣṇa, with great difficulty, would put the slippers on His head and take them to His father.
At such times Nanda Mahārāja would exclaim, “My dear Yaśodā, just look at your offspring, Kṛṣṇa! See His blackish bodily luster, His eyes tinged with red color, His broad chest and His beautiful pearl ornaments. How wonderful He looks, and how He is increasing my transcendental
bliss more and more!”*

Lord Caitanya Is Welcomed in Vrndavana

![[Mad-7-2.jpg]]
*When Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu wandered in the Vṛndāvana forests, herds of grazing cows saw Him and began to moo loudly, causing Him to become stunned with ecstatic love. As the Lord sweetly chanted the holy name in the forest, all the doe and bucks approached Him, and when they saw His face they began to lick His body. Bumblebees and birds like the parrot and cuckoo began to sing loudly on the fifth note, and the peacocks began to dance in front of the Lord. Upon seeing Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, the trees and creepers became jubilant. Their twigs stood up, they began to shed tears of ecstasy in the form of honey, and, overloaded with fruits and flowers, they bowed down to His lotus feet and greeted Him with various presentations as if they were friends. Thus all moving and nonmoving living entities in Vṛndāvana became very jubilant to see Lord Caitanya.*

Caitanya Mahaprabhu Serves at Nandagram

![[Mad-7-5.jpg]]
*EN CC Madhya 4: In the cave, Śri Caitanya Mahāprabhu offered His respects to the forms of Nanda and Yaśodā, and then with great ecstatic love He touched the body of Lord Kṛṣṇa.*

Radha and Krsna

![[Radha-Krishna_CORRECTED.jpg]]
*Lord Caitanya instructed Raghunātha dāsa Gosvāmī: “Always chant Kṛṣṇa’s holy name, and within your mind render service to Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa in Vṛndāvana.”*
