*One reason why Lord Kṛṣṇa's activities appeared bewildering to Queen Kuntī was that He came to this world to fulfill many purposes simultaneously. One important purport was simply to satisfy the desires of His dear devotees Vasudeva and Devakī. In their former lives, Vasudeva and Devakī were known as Sutapā and Pṛśni. They were ordered by Lord Brahmā to produce offspring, and so they engaged themselves in severe austerities for thousands of years. Being pleased by their penances, Kṛṣṇa came before them and asked them what they wanted. They said, "We want a son like You. That is our desire." Kṛṣṇa agreed, and in their next lives Sutapā and Pṛśni (now Vasudeva and Devakī) had the extraordinary opportunity to play the role of Lord Kṛṣṇa's parents. As shown here, Vasudeva and Devakī in the dense darkness of night, like the full moon rising the eastern horizon. The newborn child had very wonderful lotuslike eyes and bore in His four hands a conch shell, disc, club, and lotus. On His chest was the mark of Śrīvatsa, and on His neck the brilliant Kaustubha gem. Then, after receiving prayers from Vasudeva and Devakī and instructing them, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Kṛṣṇa, transformed Himself into His original form as a small human child.*

When sixteen thousand princesses were kidnapped by the demon Bhaumāsura, they prayed to Kṛṣṇa for deliverance, and in response the Lord went to the demon's fortified city to do battle with him. After smashing the fortifications Kṛṣṇa encountered and defeated a fierce five-headed demon named Mura. Finally, the Lord beheaded Bhaumāsura and released the frightened princesses. But according to the strict Vedic system, if an unmarried woman leaves her home even for one night, no one will marry her. Therefore when Kṛṣṇa told the princesses, "Now you can safely return to your fathers' homes," they declined. "O Lord," they replied, "if we return to our fathers' homes, what will be our fate? No one will marry us." "Then what do you want?" Kṛṣṇa asked. "We want You to become our husband." And out of His boundless mercy, Kṛṣṇa immediately accepted them.*

When sixteen thousand princesses were kidnapped by the demon Bhaumāsura, they prayed to Kṛṣṇa for deliverance, and in response the Lord went to the demon's fortified city to do battle with him. After smashing the fortifications Kṛṣṇa encountered and defeated a fierce five-headed demon named Mura. Finally, the Lord beheaded Bhaumāsura and released the frightened princesses. But according to the strict Vedic system, if an unmarried woman leaves her home even for one night, no one will marry her. Therefore when Kṛṣṇa told the princesses, "Now you can safely return to your fathers' homes," they declined. "O Lord," they replied, "if we return to our fathers' homes, what will be our fate? No one will marry us." "Then what do you want?" Kṛṣṇa asked. "We want You to become our husband." And out of His boundless mercy, Kṛṣṇa immediately accepted them.*

*One reason why Lord Kṛṣṇa's activities appeared bewildering to Queen Kuntī was that He came to this world to fulfill many purposes simultaneously. One important purport was simply to satisfy the desires of His dear devotees Vasudeva and Devakī. In their former lives, Vasudeva and Devakī were known as Sutapā and Pṛśni. They were ordered by Lord Brahmā to produce offspring, and so they engaged themselves in severe austerities for thousands of years. Being pleased by their penances, Kṛṣṇa came before them and asked them what they wanted. They said, "We want a son like You. That is our desire." Kṛṣṇa agreed, and in their next lives Sutapā and Pṛśni (now Vasudeva and Devakī) had the extraordinary opportunity to play the role of Lord Kṛṣṇa's parents. As shown here, Vasudeva and Devakī in the dense darkness of night, like the full moon rising the eastern horizon. The newborn child had very wonderful lotuslike eyes and bore in His four hands a conch shell, disc, club, and lotus. On His chest was the mark of Śrīvatsa, and on His neck the brilliant Kaustubha gem. Then, after receiving prayers from Vasudeva and Devakī and instructing them, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Kṛṣṇa, transformed Himself into His original form as a small human child.*

dropped many of them. The fruit vendor saw this and was captivated by the child’s beauty, so she accepted whatever grains were left and filled His hands with fruits. In the meantime, her basket of fruit became filled with jewels.*

*EN KB 2018 one-vol: Bound to the wooden mortar, child Kṛṣṇa proceeded toward the twin arjuna trees, which were actually the sons of Kuvera, in order to fulfill the prophecy of Nārada Muni. Although He was able to pass between them, the large wooden mortar stuck horizontally, and with great strength He pulled the rope tied to the mortar. The two trees, with all their branches and limbs, fell with a crash. Out of the broken, fallen trees came two great personalities, shining like blazing fire,
who bowed before little Kṛṣṇa.*

mood, supremely confident that Kṛṣṇa would protect them.*

the valley and, upon seeing their calves, they became so melted with affection

men taking care of the cows tried to stop them, but when they saw their own
children they too were overwhelmed with an astonishing affection, and lifted
and embraced their sons.*

<h3>Lord Krsna Kills the Tyrant Kamsa</h3>

*EN KB 2018 one-vol: While in Mathurā, Lord Kṛṣṇa dragged the demoniac King Kaṁsa from his high seat and threw
him down. Straddling Kaṁsa's chest, Kṛṣṇa punched the demon again and

<h3>Vasudeva Carries Krsna to Vrndavana</h3>

*EN KB 2018 one-vol: The Lord told Vasudeva and Devakī, “I know you are afraid of Kaṁsa and want to protect Me. Take Me to Gokula and exchange Me for the daughter just born to Yaśodā.” While carrying child Kṛṣṇa across the storm-tossed river Yamunā, Vasudeva
was sheltered by the hoods of Lord Śeṣa, an expansion of the Supreme Personality
of Godhead. The effulgence from Kṛṣṇa’s body dissipated the darkness so Vasudeva could find his way.*
<h3>Krsna Steals the Garments of the Unmarried Gopis</h3>

*EN KB 2018 one-vol: One after another the gopīs came out of the water, shivering and trying to cover
their nakedness with their hands. Their simple presentation was so pure that
Lord Kṛṣṇa immediately became pleased with them. All the unmarried gopīs had
prayed to goddess Kātyāyanī to have Kṛṣṇa as their husband, and in this way
they were satisfied. Nothing can compare with the Kṛṣṇa consciousness of the gopīs.*
<h3>Krsna and Balarama Leap From Mount Pravarsana</h3>

*EN KB 2018 one-vol: Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma led Jarāsandha and his army a great distance. They then climbed Mount Pravarṣaṇa, which was always covered by clouds. Jarāsandha assumed that the two brothers were afraid of his military power and had hidden Themselves at the top of the mountain. Failing to locate Them, he decided to trap and kill Them by setting fires around the peak. As the fire spread, Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma jumped to the ground and escaped.*

*EN KB 2018 one-vol: One day, the cowherd boys were dueling, and the defeated boys carried the victors on their backs. The demon Pralamba had disguised himself as a friend, hoping to kidnap Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma for his master, Kaṁsa. Pralamba carried
Balarāma, who is compared to a mountain. First Balarāma increased His weight in order to thwart the demon, forcing Pralamba to give up his disguise. Balarāma then struck the demon with His strong fist, and the demon fell, thundering down like a great hill struck by Indra’s thunderbolt.*
<h3>Krsna Swallows a Forest Fire</h3>

*After Kāliya was defeated and banished, night was falling and the inhabitants
of Vṛndāvana decided to sleep on the riverbank. In the middle of the night, they suddenly found themselves surrounded by a raging forest fire. The unlimited Lord Kṛṣṇa saved His townspeople by swallowing the fire.*
